COVID-19 Guidelines Equine Centre General Statement At Lakeland, the health and safety of our community is our top priority. COVID-19 guidelines have been created to ensure fair and consistent processes are established to support health and safety of the Lakeland Community.

Overview: These guidelines outline practices to follow for safety in the Equine Centre. These guidelines will be updated as needed. Visit lakelandcollege.ca/covid19 for current information. Lat revision date: Sept. 21, 2020.

Expectations: • Before coming on campus, all employees, students and visitors should screen for symptoms using Lakeland’s Daily Assessment Tool. The tool is available at lakelandcollege.ca/covid19, the Lakeland College app or the Lakeland Safe app. • All employees, students and visitors must follow Lakeland’s COVID-19 protocol. • COVID-19 signage will be posted in Equine Centre.

Equine Centre Guidelines • • • •

Facility access is through the annex only (not the stable area). Only those required to be in the Equine Centre are permitted. No spectators allowed. Practice two-metre physical distancing. A 3-ply face covering (non-medical) must be worn in all areas of the Equine Centre. The only exception is the arena surface. However, if two-metre physical distancing can’t be maintained while on the arena surface, face coverings are required. • Patrons must wear their own work gloves at all times. The exceptions are while participating in a riding class or rodeo team practice. • Touched surfaces must be disinfected after each use. • When using the side-by-side, disinfectant wipes will be used to wipe down vehicle after use.

Rodeo Team Practice Guidelines Stock contractors, pick-up men and bull fighters • External stock contractors are required for Lakeland’s Rodeo Team to practice. • Each stock contractor (horses and bulls) is limited to 4 people each to allow contractors help with sorting stock, flanking, etc. • One or two external pick-up man is required for bucking horse events. • Two external bull fighters are required for bull riding event. • Before coming on campus, these visitors must screen for symptoms using Lakeland’s Daily Assessment Tool.


Roughstock – saddle bronc, bareback and bull riding • Follow guidelines as outlined under Equine Centre Guidelines. • While behind the chutes, 3-ply face coverings are required. • Individuals who are flanking, spotting and assisting the rider, as well as chute gate openers, are required to wear a 3-ply face covering and work gloves. • Riders, pick-up men and bullfighters are not required to wear a 3-ply face covering while engaging in roughstock activity. • Disinfecting of chutes and gates is mandatory following bucking horse practice and prior to bull riding practice, as different helpers are required for the different events. Disinfecting will be completed again following bull riding practice. • To reduce contact, these riders and, if necessary other Rodeo Club members, will help each other rather than adding additional people to practice. Team Roping/Breakaway Roping/Tie Down Roping/Steer Wrestling • Follow guidelines as outlined under Equine Centre Guidelines. • While running the chute, chasing cattle, riding a horse and driving side-by-side in arena surface, a face covering is not required if physical distancing can be maintained. • Patrons must wear their own work gloves at all times including when running the chute, chasing cattle, raking boxes and using the manure fork. The exceptions are while participating in a riding class or rodeo team practice. • Only those who are participating or helping with the practice are allowed in the Equine Centre. Goat Tying • In addition to guidelines outlined previously, hand sanitizer is to be used when switching goats for next team member. Barrel Racing/Pole Bending • In addition to guidelines outlined previously, hourly time slots will be utilized to ensure enough time for each student to practice, as well to ensure social distancing can be maintained. • Work gloves are required when raking barrels, picking up poles and barrels and running the in/out gates.
