Special Projects Staging Committee The Canola Regrowth & Spraying The drought year in the 2021 growing season led us to a few challenges due to uneven Canola maturity and regrowth in our fields. •

SMF Crops unit decided to take a test strip in LC 1/3 to check moisture content and green seed count in the Canola to see if it was ready to take off the field. The results came back in a good range, so we decided to start straight cutting our Canola. There was significant amount of regrowth that we decided to leave in LC 1/3 and LC 19. We did not want to feed the green material through our combine, so we decided to spray the growth in both LC 19 and LC 1/3, but we considered a few factors before we made our decision. o SMF Livestock unit were looking into using the regrowth for feed since they had a limited feed supply o Nitrate poisoning was possible because the green canola froze o Any potential germination issues that could arise in the following year

In the end, the SMF Livestock unit did not want the Canola for feed, so we sprayed the regrowth in LC 1/3 and LC 19 with Roundup Transorb HC at 0.67 rate and 10 ga l/ac of water for $8.93/ac over a total of 169ac of regrowth.

Carbon Credits This year as a SMF group we had the opportunity to work with Trimble’s Ag’s Sustainability Team to reduce greenhouse gas emissions measured by the seedbed utilization. • • •

Up to two passes with a low disturbance opener o K-Hart Disc Opener Model 9612 Up to one pass with a high disturbance opener o New Holland Precision Hoe Drill 10% of the field can be tilled o Incorporating solid & liquid manure o Anhydrous ammonia o Pro-till

Stoller Committee Trial Demo Bio-forge Advanced •

Di-formal Urea & Cobalt, Moly & Plant Hormone combination o Reduces crop stress in preventative application o Repairs crop damage in reparative application o Stops Ethylene production, enhances photosynthetic ability.

X-Cyte What is happening inside the plant during “Heat Blast” •

“Even with a few days of heat, it can take a week for hormone balance and regular pod formation to return.” o
