On November 4, 1963 the Lake Naomi Club nonprofit corporation was formed. Logan Steele began his legacy to build the foundation for what we all love and enjoy today as the Platinum Club Community. 2013 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Lake Naomi Club. The Management Team and all the Committee Members are busy making plans to mark this special year. Please be prepared to celebrate all year long at your favorite amenities. The first item to roll out is the 2013 Calendar that celebrates the past and present of the Lake Naomi Club. The Calendar will be mailed out early December.

During the past few years the Club has seen an increase in the number of sons and daughters of existing Club Members purchasing their own homes and joining the Club. These individuals have grown up spending quality time at Lake Naomi and Timber Trails and are now introducing the third generation, their children, to the special mountain lifestyle that has played such an important role in their lives.

There is no better time to consider purchasing another property in Lake Naomi and Timber Trails. A number of smaller starter vacation homes are on the market at very affordable prices. What a grand tradition to continue with your children and grandchildren.

Holiday Greetings!

The arrival of the joyous Holiday Season is a vivid reminder of how quickly time passes. Was it not just yesterday when Members were sitting at the Lake Naomi Pool or Club Beach absorbing the wonderful sun rays, or playing a round of golf or calling for court times? Now the temperatures are declining, the leaves have fallen and the days are getting shorter. All these seasonal changes remind us that the Holiday Season is near. This is the time to reflect upon the childhood anticipation of the Season traditions and receive the inner warmth that family and friends give to our lives each and every year.

This is the perfect time to remember our Lake Naomi – Timber Trails family and to say thank you. Thank you to all the Committee Members, Board of Governors and Board of Trustees for the countless hours and the dedication to ensuring that the Members’ Lake Naomi - Timber Trails home continues to be their favorite retreat. Also thank you to Management and Team Members who strive to ensure that the entire Members’ experiences are top notch.

As we say goodbye to 2012 and welcome 2013, may the joy of this holiday season last throughout the year for you and your loved ones.

James B. Hyatt Retires from Board of Trustees At the Board of Trustees meeting on November 3rd, James B. Hyatt was honored for his nine years of service on the Board of Trustees. Jim will officially retire from the Board of Trustees effective December 31, 2012.

During his time on the Board of Trustees, Jim served as President for two years, Vice President for one year and Secretary for four years. Jim also served on the Board of Governors for six years in which he was Chairperson for two years, Vice Chairperson for three years and Chair of the Membership/Marketing Committee for three years.

Jim and his wife Kathy have had a home in Lake Naomi and held Club Membership since 1991. When the Hyatts aren’t spending time at Lake Naomi sailing and golfing with their two sons, they reside and are active community members in Wayne, PA.

Looking Back on 2012 I remember reflecting back over 2011 thinking how can it possibly be any busier? Now that I gather my thoughts for 2012, last year was a breeze.

The Club started the year with the purchase of the Mountaintop Lodge. The next four months were busy with wallpaper scraping, hardwood floor harvesting, electric wire detangling, plumbing reconfiguring, antique shopping, curtain hanging, coffee barista training and pastry chef interviewing, just to mention a few. What I am still most inspired by is the countless number of hours, sweat equity and new found skills the LN-TT Team put into renovating the Mountaintop Lodge. This was not just a job but a passion to each and every member on the Team. The volunteers of the Club who formed the Lodge Task Force also did an amazing job in scrutinizing the details to formalize the Operational Plan. When the doors opened and the Open Houses started the buzz in the Community was, “They did it again!” A new Platinum Club Amenity was added to LNC’s list. Based on the support from the membership over the summer the Lodge is on its way to serving the LN-TT Membership for many years to come. Remember this is your amenity to share with your friends and family. Late Spring the Club had the opportunity to purchase the property to form the Park at Club Beach. Again thanks to the Members support this rare opportunity easily became a reality. The Park has expanded the Club Beach experience and enhanced the enjoyment of the lake well into the future. The Park Committee is working on the second phase of adding a restroom facility, more kayak and boat racks as well as preparing for the Junior Sailing Program. The Club recently booked its first Member wedding at the Park for September 2013.

The summer was one to remember. All amenities had a great year and offered many events and family fun for all. A history making number of hole-in-ones were made by Members at Timber Trails Golf Course. The Kid’s Klub program was busting at the seams with many young smiling faces. The addition of 60 lounge chairs and new landscaping at the Lake Naomi Pool helped to accommodate even more Pool Members.

In September we had the opportunity to showcase LN-TT to over 100 Managers from around the country as we hosted the Large Scale Managers Workshop. Many Managers expressed to me how lucky I am to work for a great Community and to have such a supportive Membership. I have thought this since the day I was hired, however, I was proud to hear this from my colleagues.

So when we were busy finalizing the budget for 2013 we had a visit from Hurricane Sandy. Sandy the Frankenstorm of the century attempted to take LN-TT down but overall the Club fared very well. The Club and many homeowners lost some extraordinary trees and were without power for many days, however, we did not receive the rain and flooding that was predicted. This was not the case for many of our Members’ “other homes.” Our hearts go out to everyone who was hit hard by Sandy’s wrath. We have heard many stories of the struggles, shortages, cleanups and rebuilding. We are proud of how the Pocono Pines Community immediately organized, via social media, a huge collection of supplies that were delivered by LNC’s Fitness Instructor Tara Bray to the ravaged Staten Island area. Many Members used their one tank of gas to come to their homes in LN-TT to find refuge from the severely stricken areas. The Logan Steele Community Center never missed a beat servicing the Members when the power was down. There was even a night when Chef George helped grill all the must use items from Members’ refrigerators and a feast was had by all. Also I can’t thank Chief Ranger John Lamberton and the Ranger Team enough for keeping the Community going and informing Members of any challenges with their property. As all Communities come together in hard times, LN-TT seems to shine in time of need.

At this point in time, the end of 2012 is only six weeks away and I dare to say that 2012 has been an amazing year and wish the Membership a joyful and relaxing 2012 Holiday Season. Robert A. Jones, Jr., General Manager

Park Boat Racks New kayak and canoe racks will become available in the Park at Club Beach in 2013. Those interested in a Park rack should indicate such in their annual Membership renewal. PLEASE NOTE - if your request a Club Beach rack and all existing racks at that amenity are filled we will fill accommodate the Club Beach request by utilizing Park spaces.

New Year’s Eve Gala Join us for a Spectacular New Year’s Eve Celebration on Monday, December 31, 2012. The “Fais do-do” begins with Club favorite “The Jazz Trio” who will spin tunes during cocktail hour from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Then dance the night away with medleys played by the four-piece, high energy band “Fancy Dancer”, a Frankie Carll Production.

Chef Paul and his Culinary Krewe have designed a delectable four course menu. The Carnival starts off with a your choice of a complimentary New Orleans inspired cocktail, either The Hurricane or Creole Bloody Mary while sampling from the appetizer display. Shrimp cocktail, raw oysters and raw clams will be served in the shrimp boat ice carving. Also featured is bourbon glazed strip steak crostinis, mini crab cakes and peperoncini with crawfish just to name a few.

The dinner presentation begins with traditional New Orleans Gumbo. Next you will be served your choice on an entree from the following selection: • Pan Seared Sea Bass: Served with Seafood Jambalaya Rice, Roasted Yellow Tomatoes and Saffron Broth • Chicken and Scallop Creole: Pan Seared Cajun Spiced Chicken and Diver Scallops and sweet peppers finished with Tomato Creole Sauce • Char Grilled Prime Filet Mignon: Served with a White Truffle Potato Croquet, Wild Mushroom, Leek and Tarragon Ragout finished with a Beaujolais Demi Glace

Curbside Cuisine Pickup Program Many Members are taking advantage of the Curbside Cuisine Pickup Program. Chef’s bistro menu and our new Italian style pizza menu are available for curb side delivery to your car.

The fall and winter hours are 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday thru Saturday. When placing your order please have your Member number available and the server will take payment with a credit card. Our culinary team is asking for 30 minutes preparation time but the amount of time can vary due to business in the Clubhouse. So on those nights that you just don’t feel like getting the skillet out or after a long drive to the Poconos, call the Clubhouse and enjoy our culinary creations in the comfort of your home. To place an order call 570-646-2866 and don’t forget to program your cell phone so we can have dinner waiting for you on your next trip to Lake Naomi-Timber Trails . 2013 Dues Payment Procedure Change In order to give equal opportunity to every member to submit their dues and rack requests as early as possible, there will be a significant change in the timing for acceptance of dues payments and boat/canoe/kayak rack requests, as well as the manner in which these earliest payments are processed. This change is being conducted on a trial basis and will be reviewed prior to implementing it in the future.

In the past, dues invoices were not mailed until the first of the year, and the earliest date payments were accepted was January 2nd at 9:00 AM. This year we will be mailing the 2013 dues invoice to all Club Members on or about December 15, 2012.

Members may submit payment beginning December 15th by mail, in person, via our website, or over the phone. All payments received between December 15th up to and including January 2nd will be recorded as being received on January 2nd. All of these payments will be held together and drawn at random. Based on that random drawing is the order in which they will be processed for the assignment of racks. Payments received beginning January 3rd and after will be processed on a first paid, first assigned basis according to the date received. Please note that no payments received between December 15th and January 2nd will actually be processed until after January 2nd. This means checks will not be cashed nor will credit card payments be processed (EXCEPT payments made on our website which are processed immediately but will still be recorded as being received on January 2nd).

Club Members are also reminded that the policy of racks being assigned based on the location of their home remains the same: Members making payment until January 31st and requesting racks in their area of assignment get first preference to those racks. Members making payment until January 31st and requesting an assignment outside of their area are assigned to that area after January 31st based on availability of racks and on their date of payment. Members making payment after January 31st will be assigned to the remaining racks in their requested area (regardless of their assigned area) on a first paid, first assigned basis.

We hope all members who wish to pay as early as possible find this to be a much more effective and efficient procedure than the “mad rush” some experienced on January 2nd of each year. Please feel free to contact the Administrative Office if you have any questions regarding this information.

Reservations Please Dinner reservations at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse are well advised. In order to accommodate as many Members as possible on Friday and Saturday nights in the Main Dining Room reservations are highly recommended. Reservations assist in the planning and staffing process, ultimately providing a better dining experience. The Clubhouse Team will do their very best to accommodate Members who arrive without a reservation, but please understand you may have to wait for an extended period. If you arrive without a reservation and are asked to wait and see empty tables, please understand those tables have been reserved for Members who called ahead and have not yet arrived. It is the goal of the Clubhouse Management Team to have every table filled with satisfied Members each and every evening.

The Activities Committee once again, had a very busy year putting everything together for your enjoyment. We had two art classes running in the Spring and three classes in the Summer. There are plans to have at least one art class in the winter months which is great activity for those Members who do not go south for the winter. The second ‘in-house’ Art Show took place at the Clubhouse in January and it showcased the talent of the new artists in LN-TT. Everyone loved it! In May we had a Spring Entertainment Event where we welcomed Eric Kearns and his show, ‘Voice of Legends’. The music was enjoyed by 100+ people in the multi-purpose room at the Community Center which was transformed into a night club for the evening. In June we held a Garage Sale at the Tobyhanna Township Emergency Services Building. This was a fun day filled with great bargains and new found treasures. The Annual Ladies Luncheon was held in July and this year Dunkelberger’s of Stroudsburg sponsored the fashion show.

The models were both male and female Members of the Community. The Clubhouse Team did an amazing job with the decorations and the food. Also in July was the production of Winnie-the-Pooh by the newly formed Drama Club. All the members of the cast are to be thanked for the time, effort and energy that they put into the production. They worked hundreds of hours all Spring and Summer getting the show ready for the 350 people that attended.

It was a huge success and thank you all for supporting their first endeavor.

In August the third annual LN-TT Fine Arts and Crafts Show was held and once again was a huge success. This year $5,700.00 was raised for Top-ofthe-Mountain Ecumenical Food Pantry. A Women’s Wellness program was held in August where 42 women attended this very informative event. In November we had our truly favorite annual event - Casino Night. Thank you to the men and women who volunteered to be a dealer. We couldn’t do it without you! This past Spring we also started a Speaker’s Program which was an idea presented by Members in the Community. It has really taken off and I hope will continue for years to come. Also, under the auspices of this committee fall: Square Dancing, Food Bank, Library, Book Club, Mitten Tree, Card and Leisure Games, Weekly Bowling and the ‘Social Lites’ group. Our committee is always busy working hard and having lots of fun organizing the events for you to enjoy. The Committee is already working hard on planning the 2013 events.

My term as Activities Chair is over at the end of the year and I would like to thank my wonderful committee and my Co-Chair Linda Pardini. I am also grateful for all the Club Members who participated and volunteered for the events. Finally I would like to thank Kelly Swingle and the Community Center Staff for their dedication in making our events a big success. It’s been a great experience and I wish the new Chair, Shelly Wismer, lots of luck and tons of fun!

Tree of Mittens Join the Activities Committee in the giving spirit this holiday season by donating a pair of children’s mittens being collected at the Community Center. A twelve foot pine tree will stand in the Great Room of the Community Center and will be decorated with all of the mittens collected this season. This collection will run from December 1st through January 1, 2013 and then the mittens will be collected and donated to a local charity. The Activities Committee thanks you in advance for your support.

Members of LN-TT can continue to bring their food donations to the Community Center through the Winter and Spring. Drop off your canned goods or non perishable food items during regular hours.

Toys for Tots Please help us fill our Toys for Tots bins. Bring an unwrapped toy to the Community Center or Mountaintop Lodge in November and early December. Also see the fitness pages of this issue of Reflections for information about the Turkey Trot Run/Walk which also supports this cause.

Tennis, platform tennis, basketball, golf driving net and simulator, swimming, various planned activities, fitness classes and of course the fitness center, are all ways to stay active when Mother Nature turns cold. Fitness News The fitness staff at the Logan Steele Community Center would like to remind you that the holiday season is not time for a break from your personal wellness routine. Please respect your fellow members and refer to the guidelines in the leisure service guide as to usage of the cardio machines. Also please be aware as cold and flu season is upon us, it is common courtesy and proper gym etiquette to wipe down the machines after use. It is our recommendation that you also take a moment to wipe them before you use them to further prevent the spread of germs.

Your Fitness Committee has been working hard on keeping current with the latest trends in the industry and to ensure LNC continues to offer programming of the highest standards. Please see the class schedule for holiday events and class changes. Class fees will be discounted to $5 per class or 5 classes for $20 for December 26th to the 31st as our holiday gift to you. Any member who has purchased a one month unlimited package in December will receive an additional free week. Be sure to pick up a schedule when you visit the Community Center and sign up in advance as space may be limited.

We challenge you to participate in our fun incentive program…The 12 Days of Fitness. This program will assign you 12 different tasks that must be completed on 12 consecutive days from December 5th to December 16th. There is no fee for this program.

Looking ahead to 2013, we will celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary with a challenge to all members. The fitness committee is creating a list of 100 physical challenges.

Members will have a set period of time to complete at least 50 of these challenges over the course of the year. The program will culminate with a victory celebration and fun prizes! Look for details in future issues of Reflections and get ready to get challenged!

Attention all Seniors!!! In follow-up to a previous article from fitness committee member, Jo Maher, we would like to invite members age 60 and above who have not yet tried our group exercise classes to join us for a free trial. Choose any single week in the months of January-April to attend our classes free of charge. We want you to experience the benefits of working out at your own pace with fellow Members. We guarantee a fun and friendly atmosphere that will keep you coming back!

Holiday Klub Day Camp Back again by popular demand, the winter version of Kids Klub, Holiday Klub. Members and guests in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to join our great Summer Klub Counselors at the Logan Steel Community Center in some winter fun. Wednesday, December 26th through Friday, December 28th from 9:00 AM until Noon, we will spend our days with games, songs, outdoor winter activities, snacks, crafts and skits. Don’t miss out on the great winter fun like ice bowling and ice ornaments! You can register for one day or register for all three. What a great way to get out of the house, see summer friends and meet new ones. Space is limited so make sure to register early. Cost per day for registration will be $25 for Members and $35 for guests. Receive a $5 per day discount when you register by December 19th. Be a part of the Holiday Klub Day Camp!

Night Recreation Activities Looking for something to do after a day of snowboarding or visiting with family over the holiday season? Third graders and up are welcome to join in nightly fun and activities at the Logan Steele Community Center. Our staff will be organizing games, crafts, competitions or just opportunities to hang out with other Members and guests that are your age from 6:00-9:00 PM December 26th through December 30th. There is no charge for these activities and no advanced registration required. Just stop in and see what is going on.

Turkey Trot Join us at the Logan Steele Community Center for a fun run/walk on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 9:00 AM. All ages are welcome to bundle up and run 3 laps around the leisure trail (providing it is not under a foot of snow). We will collect a $5 per person entry fee with all proceeds going to Toys for Tots. Please call the Community Center to register in advance at 570-646-8585.

Temporary Memberships Are Important The total number of families that subscribed to the Club’s Temporary Membership (TM) during the 2012 season was 780. Temporary Memberships for 2012 are projected to generate $265,000 in fees towards the annual operations budget by years end.

Temporary Members are described as a family living on a temporary basis in the home of a Club Member when the Home Owner/Club Member is not present. This includes those renting homes as well as Family Members and Colleagues of Club Members utilizing homes without the Club Member being present.

Temporary Memberships are very important to the Club as not only do Temporary Members generate a significant amount of revenue for the Club, but Temporary Members also represent the number two source of future Club Members. The number one source of future Club Members is through referrals from existing Club Members.

Remember the Membershare Referral program was expanded to include Temporary Members. When your referral purchases their Temporary Membership, you will be rewarded 25 Club Dollars for each week your referral purchases their Temporary Membership with a maximum of 100 Club Dollars per referral. You will receive a stored value card that can be utilized toward your Membership Fees or used at any amenity. To qualify the person you refer must be totally new to the Lake Naomi Club and the referral card must be turned into the Administrative Office before the temporary membership is purchased. The Membership/Marketing Committee plans to continue its marketing efforts for Temporary Members, as once families see and experience the Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Community, the chances of their becoming a Property Owner/Club Member increases dramatically.

Community Center Socials Beginning December 6th the Community Center staff will begin offering Adult Evening Socials the first Thursday of the month (excluding the summer) from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Each month will be themed and include related activities and food service. Food service will be optional at the end of the activities and will cost $10 and require pre-registration. Registration will take place at the Community Center, please stop by the front desk before the previous Monday each month. We will be offering this program in hopes the nights of fun and food will bring our Members yet another opportunity to enjoy each other’s company here at the CC. The theme for December is “Brain Games”.

Calling all Teens Are you a teen (age 13-18) who likes to be active in the LN-TT Community? Do you have some ideas of things we can do that would make your visits to LN-TT more fun? Are you interested in having leadership and volunteer opportunities? Then the Club wants you! The Recreation Committee is setting up a Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) that will help to provide feedback and ideas for upcoming recreation activities.

The TAC will be 8-12 teens who will meet periodically to discuss and plan teen activities. It will be some hard work with a lot of fun thrown in to keep things moving. If you are interested you can fill out the Teen Advisory Committee Application found in the Members Section of www. lakenaomiclub.com under the Online Sign-Up. This is your chance to help shape the future of teen activities at Lake Naomi Club.

TENNIS TALK Tennis Activities for 2013 The Tennis Committee met at the end of the summer to compile Member suggestions and feedback in an effort to properly plan for the events and tournaments in 2013. Here’s a little hint … start looking for old tennis clothing now to be prepared to celebrate the Club’s 50th Anniversary Tennis Event!

Changes are also being explored in a continual effort to make the Club Championship Tournaments more appealing to more Members.

The Tennis Committee is committed to working through your suggestions along with Management and McKee Tennis to offer new and improved exciting events throughout the upcoming summer season. Although previously received suggestions are already being considered, it is not too late to offer your input.

As 2012 is winding down, our tennis preparations for the 2013 season are winding up. Our goal for the season is to involve more players(new and old) in our instructional and social events.

Our staff is comprised of individuals who love tennis, and want to share all the great benefits of “The Sport For A Lifetime”.

Year Round Tennis Tennis Round Robins will restart for the fall/winter/spring seasons as soon as both Multipurpose Room floor courts are playable. Two 90 minute sessions will be offered accommodating 8 Members at a time – 16 total per Round Robin evening. Court times will be 4:00-5:30 and 5:30-7 PM. Pre registration will be required by 3:00 PM the previous Wednesday. Guests will be placed on a wait list and accommodated if spaces remain available after deadline. There is no cost for round robins in the off season.

The Mens and Women’s Winter Doubles Tournament is being planned for mid December through January. A blast email will go out when the registration flyer is prepared and available at the Community Center and online. Players will register as either an A or B player and be paired in a blind draw. Each team will play all other teams in a round robin format (once or twice depending on the number of teams registered) to determine the winner by overall wins. The plan is to have play completed by January 31st so those leaving the area for the remainder of the winter can participate.

Platform Tennis “The best kept secret in winter outdoor recreation” The Platform Tennis court is available for play Monday-Thursday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM * Friday 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM *Saturday 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and *Sunday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Note: snow and ice removal time may need to be allotted. Call in advance after inclement weather.

Members who do not have their own rackets and balls may use the platform equipment available for check out at the reception desk. Eye protection is highly recommended and athletic shoes are required.

All Members are permitted to play with no court fees. Reservations are not necessary, courts are first come, first to play, but if you have a group who desire a certain play time, please call the Community Center to reserve the courts with the receptionist, especially after a snowfall. The reception desk keeps a highlight sheet on platform tennis as well as the official rules for the Members who wish to use them. Additional information can also be found on the APTA website at www.platformtennis.org We keep a roster at the Community Center reception desk for players who are interested in finding games. Junior Sailing Program The Junior Sailing Program was filled to capacity with enthusiastic young Members who were able to experience a completely new curriculum for all of the 2012 classes which took place twice a week for 6 weeks in the Main Summer Season. The “A Fleet” participants were also treated to instruction by long time lake Sailors Don Sensenig and Greg Maute who focused on bringing the A Fleet opportunities to a higher level this season.

A & B Fleet races were held weekly with strong encouragement from both instructors and the Sailing Committee for additional participation in the regular club races and regattas as well as the Junior category of Not Ready for Prime Time fleet racing.

The end of season was celebrated with a Friday evening Tailgate party on Club Beach followed by the traditional 2 day Junior Regatta which saw consistently high participation. The End of Season Junior Sailing Celebration was held on Sunday and made for a full weekend devoted to our youngest skippers. Sailors and their families gathered in the Logan Steele Community Center Pavilion to recap the summer, honor the season’s high scoring sailors, and receive their awards, stat sheets and mementos. Pizza and cake were served by the Sailing Committee Volunteers and a great time was had by all.

Golf Notes The golf season in the Poconos is winding down.

Hopefully we will have some mild temperatures like last year and continue playing well in to the year. The golf simulator is up and running at the Logan Steele Community Center. Using the simulator is a great way to gain valuable insight about your swing. Some of the data it gives you is club head speed, ball speed, swing path, club face angle and where the ball was struck on the club face. Being aware of swing flaws is the first step in making swing changes, which will allow you to be a better ball striker. Lessons are available all Winter! Kathy Hyatt made her first career hole-in-one on number 7 this season. She used a 5 wood to record the ace. Witnessing this tremendous shot was Steve Casazza. This year we had a record of five hole-in-ones at Timber Trails. Congratulations to Kathy for this great shot!

The golf course has gotten better over the years with a modernized irrigation system, improved drainage, the addition of several tee boxes and a better manicured golf course. We had the course rated in 2001 by the North Central Golf Association. They recommend having it done every 10 years. They are scheduled to return next Spring and to rate Timber Trails again. Having this done periodically assures that the course rating and slope are accurate, legitimizing all Members’ handicaps.

After the rating process takes place, we will use the information to change the existing scorecards.

Is the Ice Safe for You, Your Friends and Equipment?

With winter on its way, the ice fishing season is upon us. To assure a safe time while ice fishing, you must remember to follow certain precautions. Carelessness is the number one enemy of ice fisherpersons and knowledge is the number one weapon against that enemy. The best equipment is of no value if you are in icy water fighting to escape.

Please take the following precautions when ice fishing to assure yourself and others of a good time. Know the ice. When selecting a location, check the ice by chipping it with a sharp object. If ice chips and has a clinking sound, it is good ice. If it crumbles and has a dull sound, it is unsafe. Stickups, piers or any protruding structures cause weak ice.

Areas that have or are near currents, springs and aerators are also areas that may have weak ice. Please stay clear of these areas.

Two inches of clear blue ice can support one person traveling on foot, three inches can support a group traveling in single file. Four or more inches of ice is considered safe for general use – such as a group of ice fisherpersons. Ice that is four inches thick will hold up to 260 pounds, over six inches is safe for you and your equipment.

Cloudy or opaque ice may support less weight, and slush ice on a lake is only one-half as strong as clear blue ice.

Before venturing out onto the ice, exercise extreme caution – especially during the first ice cover and during the late winter months when rapid changes occur in ice structure.

Black ice is clear and has no snow frozen in it. This can be safe but it is difficult to see water holes on a calm day when there are no ripples on the water. It is very slippery and ice creepers for your footwear are a must.

It’s always a good idea to use the buddy system when ice fishing. In the event that you break through the ice, stay calm and do not panic, put your arms up and lay them on the ice, your clothing will freeze and adhere to the ice. This will keep your body at a level accessible for rescue.

Another rescue method is to take two large spikes and tie a leather thong to the head of each spike. Hang this device around your shoulders and slip the spikes in your breast pockets. If you should fall through the ice, grab the spikes to claw your way out of the water. REMEMBER, it is IMPOSSIBLE to crawl out of slippery ice if the water is more than waist deep.

When trying to locate fish, do not move more than 10 feet from one hole to a new hole. Fish run in schools and will be feeding on plankton within a certain area. Depth of the ice is also very critical: at the first safe ice, fishing is best in the shallow water areas, as the ice thickens, the fish move into the deeper water areas.

Winter Ski Vouchers The Lake Naomi Club is again offering Club Members reduced ski lift tickets to the top ski resorts in the area. Be sure to take advantage of this popular ski voucher program during the 2012/2013 ski season. Discount ski vouchers will be available for Big Boulder, Jack Frost and Camelback ski areas. Vouchers will be sold at the Community Center in the beginning of December and continue through the end of February.

Third Annual Winter Festival Weekend A single idea turned out to be a great success and now it is an Annual Event. The Membership/Marketing Committee was looking for a way to promote LN-TT as the perfect year round destination. This year the Winter Festival will start on Friday, January 25 through Sunday, January 27.

The Club will again invite past Temporary Members to come stay at LN-TT that weekend to show them how much fun this area can be in the winter months. The weekend will start off with a Kick Off Night at the Community Center. Special activities that are in the planning stages include, skating, story time, arts & crafts, gingerbread house making, games, snowman building contest, special night for the kids at the CC, special night for the adults at the LNCH, Après Ski Happy Hour, Sunday Breakfast Buffet, Horse drawn wagon rides, cross country skiing, sledding, Special Fitness Event, toasting marshmallows, s’more building and Chili Cook Off. The Temporary Membership fee for a family will be $50 for three days and all guest fees will be waived this weekend.

The guest limit will remain in effect with four guests per Family Membership per day.

Members are all invited to participate in this fun filled weekend. Invite your friends and family members so they too can enjoy all the activities. Winter RC Sailing Indoor Radio Controlled Laser sailing will again be held in the indoor pool at the LCSS on the following Sundays from 8 AM - 10 AM: November 18th, December 9th, January 13th & 27th, February 10th & 24th.

Members will have the opportunity to practice and participate in casual sailing for fun on these dates. Anyone interested in participating but does not have a boat should come to watch and ask questions as most of the time regular sailors can offer a boat for new comers to try.

On Sunday March 10th the Sailing Association will be hosting the Annual Winter RC Open Regatta from 7:00-11:00 AM. This is a date for sailors to experience more competition.

For those who have yet to see the indoor sailing it’s definitely worth your time to stop by and witness the strategically placed fans and marks that make our indoor sailing conditions so perfect for this world recognized sport! Spectators are always welcome. (Please note – plan to dress for the 80 degree temperature in the pool area if you plan to stay a while.) John Whipple organizes the sailing and would love to hear from you if you plan to participate.

Fourth and Fifth Grade Snowpass Program The Lake Naomi Club would like to make all Members aware of this wonderful program! The Pennsylvania Ski Area Association is offering any fourth or fifth grader the chance to ski for free this winter. There are 21 participating member resorts of the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association with a few of the participating nearby mountains being Alpine, Bear Creek, Jack Frost/Big Boulder, Camelback, Shawnee, Blue, Elk and many more!

The goal of this program is to introduce fourth and fifth graders to the sport of skiing and snowboarding and create life-long participants of winter fun. Visit www.skipa.com for all of the complete details and application.

Sledding Hill The Lake Naomi Club sledding hill located outside of the Lake Naomi Clubhouse will again be available to Members this winter season. The sledding hill will be open as of Saturday, December 22, 2012, weather permitting. When the sledding hill is open the hours of operation are from dawn until dusk. It is absolutely unsafe to ride the sledding hill after dark so please refrain from doing so.

The sledding hill will be posted as “Closed” when it is considered unsafe to ride. Please abide by the postings each day in order to keep your entire family safe.

Where to Snowmobile The Lake Naomi Club has a publication available at the Administrative Office and the Community Center outlining areas in the vicinity of Lake Naomi and Timber Trails where snowmobiles are permitted.

Since snowmobiles are not permitted on any of the common areas in Lake Naomi and Timber Trails, the Club is happy to assist Members in finding appropriate facilities for the use of their snowmobiles.

The Administrative Office and the Community Center also maintains a list of several areas nearby that offer snowmobile rentals. If you have questions regarding snowmobiles, please do not hesitate to contact the AO or the CC.

Enjoy a complimentary fresh baked cookie, plus the Pastry Shop will be open to purchase hot chocolate, mulled cider, tea or a coffee drink.

Afternoon Tea at the Lodge – Sunday, December 16th 2:00-4:00 PM Come and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea at the Mountaintop Lodge. We will feature three courses starting with assorted tea sandwiches and savories, followed by scones with cream and preserves, and finally some delectable petite desserts. All courses will be accompanied by an array of freshly steeped teas for you to choose from. This event is $27.50 per person plus gratuity. Pre-registration is required and the tea is limited to the first 30 people.

Kid’s Gingerbread Cookie Decorating – Saturday, December 22nd from 1:005:00 PM and Sunday, December 23rd from 1:00-4:00 PM. Cost is $7.00 per child, which covers the cost of the cookies, icing, decorating supplies and hot chocolate. Please call 570-646-6636 to sign up no later than Thursday, December 20th so that we can plan on having enough supplies.

MTL Proudly Participated in B&B for Vets The Staff at the Mountaintop Lodge just had the most inspiring weekend. Thanks to Lake Naomi’s generosity, we were privileged enough to be a part of B&Bs for Vets, a nationwide program that offers a complimentary room to Veterans each year on Veteran’s Day. This program is in its fourth year and now includes over 600 inns and bed and breakfasts who donated a total of over 1500 rooms. Eight rooms were here at the Lodge where we hosted seven couples and one family. All branches of the military were represented; Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. We had Veterans of all ages including the youngest, 27 year old Sgt. J. Mendoza (active duty Marine with two tours in Iraq and now fresh out of recruiter’s training) who was celebrating his one year anniversary with his wife to SSG. M. McMinn (disabled Vietnam Veteran, Army E6) who was quick to let us know his age! Sunday evening started off with a meet and greet reception made possible by donations from John Connors, Anita Scarperia, Donna Masiello, and the McNallys. Here we had a chance to chat with each of the guests and make them feel like part of the Lake Naomi family. We even had Marine C. Cuadros doing push-ups after another Veteran presented their challenge coin to share and he did not have his (who knew!). Everyone was genuinely thankful for the night’s stay and as E. Teets (Army, Vietnam) wrote on Facebook “It made me feel proud once again for serving my country”.

Lake Naomi Club Q & A What is the status on repairs to the multi-purpose room floor at the Logan Steele Center?

The east court was put back in service on Wednesday, November 7th. The Club continues to work with the Contractors to get the west court repaired and returned to Member use.

What has been the hold up on fixing the multi-purpose room floor at the Community Center?

The four Defendants in the flooring litigation agreed as a result of Mediation to split the cost of repairing the floor. When the area to be repaired and the cost of the repair substantially escalated, the Defendants could not agree on the division of the increased costs.

Did the Club give up legal rights to have the floor repaired?

No. The parties agreed, and the court approved, to put the litigation on hold while the repair was completed. The Club did not have to relinquish any of its legal rights as a result of permitting the Defendants to attempt to repair the floor. Any of the parties has the option of asking the court to resume the litigation six months after the repairs are completed.

Will the bicycle-pedestrian paths along Route 423, Blockhouse Road and at the entrance to the Community Center be maintained during the winter months?

No. The paths are officially closed from November 15th through April 15th of each year.

Members can continue to utilize the path at their own risk during this time period. Members can also utilize the paths at their own risk for cross country skiing.
