Harry J. Schoettle was born and raised in Philadelphia graduating from LaSalle College High School. Harry attended Princeton University graduating in 1951 under the NROTC Program with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Princeton Harry was a roommate of Lake Naomi Developer Logan Steele. After Princeton Mr. Schoettle served four years in the US Navy including two years as a Gunnery Officer aboard the USS Missouri and six months of active duty in the Korean Combat Zone. Harry subsequently served two years as an instructor at the United States Naval Academy. Harry concluded his military service in 1965 as a Lieutenant Commander United States Naval Reserve. Harry joined college roommate Logan Steele in the development of Lake Naomi and Timber Trails in 1971 and served as the President of the Pocono Pines Corporation during the balance of the development years. Harry also served as Secretary of the Lake Naomi Club Board of Trustees from 1971 to 1989. Mr. Schoettle was the member of the development team that looked after all the regulatory and legal details. Harry worked very hard as the development years were winding down to assure that the Club and Associations had legal title to all of the amenities and green spaces. He worried about the Community details right up until the time he passed in 1996. He even deeded the Club the legal right to clear up any real estate matters. Harry’s forethought has avoided numerous costly and time consuming trips to court for minor details for Property Owners. Harry Schoettle and Logan Steele donated all of the facilities in Lake Naomi and Timber Trails to the Club and Associations including the twenty-nine acre site for the Community Center. As full time residents of Tobyhanna Township, Harry and his wife Jacqueline made a significant contribution to the Community. Harry served on the Tobyhanna Township Planning Commission for fifteen years, serving as Chair of the Planning Commission for the seven of these years. And Harry was always financially supportive of Jackie’s endeavors with Girl Scouting and the Clymer Library. Jacqueline Schoettle has resided in Fort Lauderdale, Florida since 1996 and generally visits Lake Naomi – Timber Trails on a yearly basis. The Schoettle’s son, Michael Fiske, resides in Basalt, Colorado while their daughter, Lisa J. Farmer (Fiske), resides in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Their daughter, Jennifer L. Schoettle passed in 1970. Thanks goes to the entire Schoettle Family for contributing so much to the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community.

Linda Creed Breast Cancer Rally Hello to our members and friends. We hope that this winter season finds everyone in good health. The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Rally is still months away (July 13th, 17th and 18th) but it is never too early to give all a “heads up”. This year promises to bring some new and exciting features to the rally. A 5K race will be held on Saturday, July 13th. Information about this newest feature will be forthcoming. As in years past, tennis will be on Wednesday, July 17th followed by golf on Thursday, July 18th. The dinner event which is held at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse is the evening of Thursday, July 18th. Last year we introduced the “Pink Pages” to our Rally Sponsor Book. The Sponsor Book enables local merchants to both lend their support and advertise their businesses. This has proven to be a very successful endeavor. If you would like to work on this project, please contact Eileen Chimerine at eileenpt@aol.com. The Sponsor Book continues to offer our wonderful supporters an opportunity to compliment their hole, tee, tennis and run sponsorships with additional advertising exposure for their businesses. We welcome new and innovative ideas from our supporters to make each Rally unique. If you have any ideas that you think will enhance the “Rally Experience”, please don’t hesitate to contact us. As always, we need help with all our projects. Please, let us hear from you if you want to volunteer and be a part of this rewarding and very gratifying event. Thank you, Laura Bacon, lbacon50@gmail.com m Nancy Mills, nancym9614@aol.com m Debbie,Lenderink debra.lenderink@gmail

The individuals will need to apply for Temporary Membership in order to gain access to any of the Recreation and Social facilities in Lake Naomi -Timber Trails. Stored Value Cards along with Membership ID

As a convenience to Club Members and as a means of limiting the amount of cash handled at Club Facilities, the Club initiated LNC Stored Value Cards. Many Members have used the LNC Stored Value Card (SVC) and found it extremely easy to use. No more worrying about having to carry cash for pool, tennis, golf fees and the Community Center. Your Membership ID Badge also has Stored Value Card capabilities. This means you can put money on your Membership ID Badge so there is no need for a separate SVC. You can add money to your Membership ID Badge or purchase a Stored Value Card at the Administrative Office and the Community Center in any amount over $10.00. Extra dollars can be added to the SVC or Membership ID Badge throughout the season at the Administrative Office or the Community Center. These cards can then be utilized at any Club facility for payment of services and merchandise provided. They are also a great way to pay for purchases at the Cafes and Restaurant. Be sure to take full advantage of the Lake Naomi Club Stored Value Card.

We Care Program Lake Naomi – Timber Trails prides itself in being a very supportive community. Many Members have experienced assistance from our neighbors, Ranger Department, Ambulance Corps, Fire Company and Pocono Mountain Regional Police. A program offered by the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department, appropriately titled “We Care”, is designed to provide added security to the elderly, disabled or ill who live alone. Each day, except Sunday, between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, the participating person is to call the Police Department and “check in” so that the Police know everything is fine and that they are well. If no call is received by 11:00 AM, the Police will call them. If no response is obtained, an Officer and Ranger will be dispatched to the residence to check on their well being. Encourage friends, neighbors and acquaintances that live in the area and may need this service to contact PMRPD at 570, 895-2400 or the Ranger Department at 570, 646-9191 to request a “We Care” application.

We are often asked why it is so important for Members to have their Membership Identification Cards on their person while using the Club facilities. The easiest answer is that it allows the staff to ensure that only bona fide Members are using the facilities but the card also provides other functions as well. The Board of Governors, Board of Trustees, and Management uses the information gathered from the “swiping in” at various amenities to help ensure that the Club is operating as efficiently as possible. It permits the Club to see how many Members are using facilities and at what times so our staffing and hours of operation can best accommodate the needs of the Members. All Members are reminded that 2013 Membership Identification Cards will be required to access facilities starting May 1st. Membership Cards will be needed to access the Timber Trails Golf Course beginning April 12th. Cards are included in the Membership Packets available at the Administrative Office to all paid Members beginning April 5th. Please help us maintain a Platinum Club experience by having your card available.

Facility Access for Friends and Family

If you loan your home to friends or relatives, or if you have guests at your home while you are present, the following is a review of how they can access the facilities. When you have guests at your home while you are present: You have the privilege of bringing guests to any facility for which you hold Membership. Your Leisure Service Guide lists specific information on guest limits and fees for each facility. Any individual may be your guest at the Community Center (20) times a year and all other facilities up to ten (10) times during one Membership (calendar) Year except property owners in LN TT who choose not to join the Club or who choose not to join the optional facilities. Grown children and grandchildren who only visit occasionally and don't have a Special Family Membership can also participate as your guests. Members are required to accompany and introduce their guests when they are making use of the Club Facilities. Individual guest badges are paid for and issued at each facility. When someone is utilizing your home while you are not here: If someone will be utilizing your home while you are not here, the only way these house guests can utilize the facilities is by acquiring a Temporary Membership for the time they are here (unless it is a son or daughter who has their own "Special Family Membership"). The Temporary Membership will cover two adults and any unmarried children up to and including age 23 and they will be able to enjoy the same Club facilities and programs subscribed to by the Homeowner/Club Member. The Family Membership Category is required in order to sponsor Temporary Members. You will need to upgrade your Membership to this category if you plan to utilize the Temporary Membership Program. Do not hesitate to contact the Club's Membership Department for more information on sponsoring Temporary Members, guest policies or for any other reason. They very much want to assist each Club Member in obtaining the maximum benefit from Club Membership.

Vehicle Stickers Please

Heidi Geist

The Lake Naomi Club is continuing its efforts to better police the lakes and ponds in the Community to ensure that access to them is limited to bona fide Club Members. You can do your part to assist our Safety and Security Department. If you own and utilize a boat trailer and park at the lake access areas, you can make the Club’s job easier by getting a FREE vehicle sticker(s) from the Administrative Office and affix it to the driver’s side front bumper of your vehicle(s). The Patrol Rangers perform daily random checks of the lake accesses and beach areas. They can easily identify your vehicle as a Member in good standing by the vehicle sticker. If vehicles with trailers do not have a current sticker, it would give them reason to be suspicious of a non-Club Member utilizing the lake. Another benefit to the vehicle sticker (which is available to any Club Member in good standing) is that it permits access to Timber Trails without having to sign in. If you plan to utilize the beach, lake, playground, pool, tennis courts or golf course in Timber Trails, you should ask for a vehicle sticker(s) at the Administrative Office, or consider the benefits of purchasing ($10) a bar code sticker for access to the automatic Members’ gate in Timber Trails. Please note you will be asked for a copy of your state vehicle registration as part of the application process. Please help us to protect your investment by ensuring that access to your facilities is limited to bona fide Club Members who furnish the means to maintain their high quality.

Spring Show Join us for an entertaining evening of comedy and music as we welcome Joey Vincent to Lake Naomi Club. This event will take place on Saturday, April 27th at the Clubhouse. No matter what your taste in entertainment, the Joey Vincent Show has something for everyone. More than just music, more than just comedy, his show is fresh and original! Fast-paced humor, rapid-fire costume change impressions, and a musical tribute to the trumpet greats are just part of the fun. The per person price is $30.00 all inclusive. Please call the Community Center at 570-646-8585 to register.

Book Club Luncheon Good fortune has enabled the Lake Naomi Club to host Jan Phillips from California. This extraordinary woman is not only a dynamic speaker, but also a poet, author, photographer and world traveler. This discussion will enable both men and women to gain insight into their own creativity and learn how to experience their talents more joyfully. Don’t miss this meaningful experience and delicious luncheon at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse on Friday, May 24, 2013. The cost is $20 per person. Please call the Community Center to register at 570-646-8585. This event is sponsored by the Activities Committee and the Book Club.

Pre-Season Tennis Court Availability With the Lake Naomi Club Tennis Center courts opening for weekend use in early May, we often get questions about how Members can utilize the courts during the times the Pro Shop is not open during the mid-week and late in the day on weekends. A number of the Lake Naomi Tennis Center courts will be made “available for walk on play” from May 4th – June 21st. The available courts may be played as “walk on” all day (8:30 AM until dark) midweek and after 1:30 PM on weekends after the Pro Shop has closed. Members should refer to the posting on the Pro Shop door to find which courts are “available” and must record their usage, as well as their Guest’s, in the log on the podium next to the door. All court etiquette, dress code and Guest policies apply during times of “walk on play” and Members must carry their Membership ID badges while using the facilities. During these times the Pro Shop and additional staff services will not be available, with the exception of restrooms which will be available at all times the courts are open. Sweeping and lining equipment will be available for Members to self-maintain their courts.

Book Club The book club meets regularly on the second Monday of the month at 1:00 PM at the Community Center and is always open to new participants. Everyone is welcome – even if you haven’t read the book. The discussions of course talk about the book, writing style and if it was favorable to everyone’s tastes, but does not give the plot away. This is a great way to get introduced to a variety of books that you may never have looked at otherwise. If you have questions please call Vilma Zabaleta at (570) 646-7259 or Kelly Swingle at the Community Center (570) 646-8585.

Square Dancing Fun evenings of Square Dancing have been scheduled for Club Members’ dancing pleasure on Fridays, April 19th and May 17th . Are you a Teen Member looking to volunteer this summer at Lake Naomi Club? We have two great programs that you can participate in. Team Member in Training (T.M.I.T.) Program will return this year for the 14 year old Members. This program is designed to give young Members the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to be considered for a position at Lake Naomi – Timber Trails in the future. Trainees will gain LNC experience by shadowing others and also actively participating in the task at hand. Participants of the T.M.I.T. program will be trained primarily in the Recreation Department, which includes Klub Day Camps and various special events and activities. There are also limited volunteer opportunities with Golf, Sailing, Aquatics and Tennis. One hour a week will be spent in a classroom like setting discussing topics such as leadership, safety, customer service and more. There is a $50 registration fee (once you receive your acceptance letter) for participants which covers the cost of instruction, materials, uniform and a group trip/event at the end of the summer. Teen Volunteer Program (T.V.P) is designed for those teen members age 15 and above who want to volunteer to work at Lake Naomi Club during the summer months. This program is based on matching the teen’s availability and interests with the department(s) needs. It could be for one event or many hours throughout the summer. Those interested in either of these programs should fill out an application on the Club website listing the program they want to volunteer with as the position they are interested in. There are limited spots available in these programs so early application is highly encouraged. The application deadline is April 30, 2013. For more information please call Recreation Manager Braden Meiter at (570) 646-8585.

Community Center Pool Reminders Please consider your fellow Members when utilizing the aquatic facilities at the Community Center and adhere to the following guidelines: * Please shower before entering the pool especially after working out or working up a sweat from the sauna and/or steam room. * NO ONE under age 16 may be in the hot tub area, sauna or steam room. * Please turn off the Steam room and turn down the heat for the Sauna if no one else is using them when you exit. * Please keep the pool entrance ramp clear for entrance. It is not a play area. * Children may not hang and swing from the ramp handrails. This places unnecessary stress on the rails and is a very dangerous activity for children to partake in. * Children who cannot swim must be closely supervised (in arms reach) either in the water or at the water’s edge by a responsible adult. * Flotation devices must be attached so children cannot fall out or off of them. * Food is not permitted in the pool area. Only closed lid containers may be used for water. * Lap lanes are meant for lap swimming. When there are multiple swimmers, please be willing to share lanes. Swimmers “splitting” a lane should try to swim with swimmers of a similar ability or swimming pace. When “splitting a lane” resting is OK but should not be done in the middle of a lap. Please rest on the side of the pool out of the way of other swimmers. Three or more persons in a lane can “circle swim” to accommodate multiple swimmers. Please communicate well with all the swimmers in your lane so everyone is on the same page or in this case, swimming in the same direction, at the same pace, etc.

Prior to the full season beginning, we are offering a 10 & under mini-camp, and an 11+ mini-camp the weekend of June 15th and 16th. This will coincide with our adult minicamp during the same weekend, so this will be a great time for families to come up and celebrate Father’s Day weekend! ADULT PROGRAM – In addition to the well-attended Cardio classes, a few additions are on the schedule. We are adding a Stroke of the Day Clinic four times during the week, along with a Dynamic Doubles clinic on Saturdays, an Essential Tennis Clinic Tuesdays and Sundays and a Functional Fitness for Tennis Clinic on Thursdays. Golf Tips, Etiquette, & Explanations by Bob Millard, PGA Golf Professional Playing this great game of golf is an amazing experience. The camaraderie, competitiveness and challenges golf presents is unlike any sport that I have ever played. Great players and great golf begins with great etiquette. Here are my 10 tips to etiquette greatness: 1. Always respect the golf course and your fellow Members. 2. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your tee time so that you don’t cause other groups from teeing off late. 3. Always call to cancel a tee time, allowing other Members to have access to the course. 4. The pace of play is vital, especially on a 9-hole course. Each group should be within a half of hole from the group in front of them. 5. If you are a beginner player, play the course when it isn’t busy. Higher handicap players must play after 2:00 PM on weekends. 6. Fix your ball marks, and make it a practice to fix one other one as well. 7. Replace your divots. If the divot cannot be effectively replaced, use the sand/seed mixture instead. This is most important on the teeing areas. They are subject to heavy use and require everyone’s attention. 8. Rake bunkers after use and place the rake back inside the bunker. 9. Used and/or broken tees should be removed from the ground and placed in the containers provided in the tee box areas on each hole. 10.Always follow the posted cart path guidelines. We can’t stop the weather from effecting the condition of the course but we can help prevent further damage that carts can create.

Repair and maintenance of the golf course is not just a job for the Timber Trails Golf Maintenance Team. As Members of this Platinum Club, we are fortunate to have such great facilities to enjoy, let’s all lend a hand to keep it that way.

Mountaintop Lodge has recently hosted two media weekends. Over Winter Festival we were joined by Jennaphr Fredericks from Good Day Philadelphia and Anna Fader from Mommypoppins. com (the largest mommy blog in New York, Boston and Los Angeles). Jennaphr and Anna brought their families and had a chance to participate in all the winter fun. They enjoyed the extra activities in the Community Center, dinner and music at the Clubhouse and local winter attractions like skiing and snow tubing. Then the fourth weekend in March the Lodge hosted a Girl’s Getaway Weekend. The getaway girls included: a senior editor from Parenting Magazine; bloggers from Musingsofahousewife.com and Jersey Family Fun; writers for Main Line Today, Philadelphia Life and Suburban Life magazines, Real Simple and Redbook. Between relaxing by the fireplace at the Lodge, joining in a Zumba Class at the Community Center, eating delicious meals at the Clubhouse, these ladies were treated to a wine tasting tour at Franklin Hill and Mountainview Wineries and a pastry demonstration by Chef Don. A few stories have already been produced due to these visits. These articles have been posted on both the Mountaintop Lodge and the Lake Naomi Club facebook page. If a “Girl’s Getaway Weekend” sounds like something you and your friends would enjoy, you may want to look at the “Specials and Promotions” that are posted on the Mountaintop Lodge’s website under Accommodations. We are here to design any type of package for any special occasion…. or just to get away. Some examples include the wine tours, spa weekends, digital detox, a week of camp for your kids and relaxation time for you. The possibilities are endless. Also new to the Mountaintop Lodge website are online reservations. Anyone can now check availability and book a room any time of the day or night. Weekend rooms are booking quickly for the summer so, if you have family and friends coming to visit Lake Naomi consider using the Lodge to give them their own place to relax. All room rates include a full cooked to order breakfast each morning and temporary membership to the amenities. Most importantly though, Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Pamper your mom with a treat or even a basket of coffee and treats from the bakery. Chef Don will be taking pre-orders for individual sized heart cakes in either cheesecake or red velvet and a few other specialties that have yet to be announced. “Friend” us on Facebook to be kept in the loop as all these goodies are announced.

Timber Trails Member Gate The Timber Trails Community Association has installed an automated Members gate system at the entrance to Timber Trails. The gate is activated by a bar code reader that reads a bar code sticker on your vehicle and access to Timber Trails is obtained. This gate will provide quicker access to amenities by minimizing the waiting time for guests to be signed in at the Ranger attended gate. TTCA is offering the benefit of this system to all Lake Naomi Club Members. As a Lake Naomi Club Member, you can purchase a bar code sticker or stickers at a cost of $10 per sticker. Bar code stickers must be applied to the car by a Ranger or by Administrative Personnel. Stickers are available for purchase and application Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Administrative Office. Kindly note, for proper Bar Code sticker application, it must be above 40 degrees outside and it cannot be precipitating in any way. These are manufacturer requirements to ensure the Bar Code will install and function properly. Due to complications when these requirements have not been followed, we are not able to apply the bar code below 40 degrees or in the rain. In order to obtain a Bar Code the Timber Trails Board of Directors requires a copy of your STATE VEHICLE REGISTRATION. This is for your security as well as the security of the Timber Trails Community. We appreciate your understanding and your cooperation. If you have any questions regarding the Timber Trails Bar Code system, please feel free to contact Association Manager Wendi Freeman at wfreeman@lakenaomiclub.com or by calling her at 570-646-9191ext 107.

Dog Park Reminders The Club would like Members and their pets to enjoy the Dog Park with a few safety suggestions in mind. •Make your initial visit to the park during a non-peak time. This allows you and your pet to become familiar with the area. Non-peak times are usually weekdays during the late afternoon. •Know your dog. Not all dogs are good candidates for off-leash dog parks. If your dog has not had regular interaction with other dogs, it may lack the necessary social skills to make your visit safe and enjoyable. •Let your dog off-leash as soon as you enter the park. Mixing of leashed and unleashed dogs commonly causes problems. Leashed dogs often feel threatened by the free dogs and can display defensive behavior. If you are uncomfortable leaving your dog offleash it is recommended that you do not visit the park. •Follow Dog Park Guidelines. Please read and understand all Dog Park Guidelines before using the Dog Park. DOG PARK GUIDELINES 1.The Dog Park will be open from sunrise to sunset. 2.Dogs must have current vaccinations. 3.Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the Dog Park. 4.Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression. 5.Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park. Spayed/Neutered dogs are recommended. 6.Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dog(s) at all times. 7.All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners. 8.Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times. 9.Children are not recommended in the Dog Park.
