Have you had the opportunity to visit Lake Naomi Club’s newest amenity, the Park at Club Beach? The renovation of this new expansion under the direction of the Board of Governor’s ad hoc Park Committee is nearing completion. The moving of the boat house, beach expansion, the addition of restrooms and installation of Member boat racks have all served to integrate the park into the Club Beach operations. This summer the Junior Sailing program will be transitioned from the east side of Club Beach to the west side of the park. This will create more space for Member boats and give the Sailing program room to grow in years to come. So if you are looking for a nice shady lake view and the feel of a little grass under your toes,, we encourage g yyou to stroll down and check out the Park at Club Beach.

50th Sailing Anniversary Boat Parade on July 4th The Sailing Association invites Members to participate in the Boat Parade planned for July 4th. Boats decorated in celebration of the Independence Day Holiday will paddle in a parade around the lake starting and finishing at Club Beach as part of the 30th Annual Independence Day Community Picnic Picnic. Start time will be 3 PM PM. Members can paddle over from their homes or their marinas around 2:30 for a 3 PM start.

Members are asked to decorate their boats in a safe and appropriate manner for the family event.

Sailboats may not raise their sails during the paddle in order to keep the voyage safe for all. Please email Meredith Sensenig at msensenig@lakenaomiclub.com with questions or intent to participate before Monday, July 1st.

Big Splash for the 50th Lake Naomi Pool’s annual pool party “The Big Splash” is going 60’s in honor of the Club’s Anniversary. Music, games and family fun will all be a part of the celebration on Saturday, July 20th at LN Pool. Dress in your 60s garb and brush up on your 60’s song lyrics in preparation for the event.

Aquatics employees from the past are invited to come back to share in a “Where are they Now” celebration. If your family and friends that once worked with LNC can not come back for the event we invite you to provide photos of them now and then and any information of where they are now for us to post. We hope we’ll get many of once employed coming back to celebrate that weekend.

Jeff Evans, Steward of the LNC Vision The last three Reflections featured articles of the important founders of the Lake Naomi Club. The series started with Carl Fiers, Jr; then Harry Schoettle and finally Logan Steele. The Club would like conclude to the series celebrating the history of the former General Manager Jeffery M. Evans. In the Lake Naomi Timber Trails Tatler November 1981 edition (predecessor to the Reflections) an article was featured entitled, “New Manager Named”.

Logan B. Steele, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Jeffrey M. Evans of Pocono Summit as the General Manager for the Lake Naomi Club. Evans assumed his new duties on November 1st and succeeds Raymond E. Hansen, who has been the General Manager since 1974. Jeff is no stranger to the Lake Naomi Club having served as the Recreation and Aquatics Director in 1972 and 1973 and as a Consultant from 1974 until his appointment as General Manager. During this ten-year period he has been involved in almost every phase of the Club operation.

When Logan Steele decided to make the change in the General Manager’s position, Logan sought out Jeff Evans and assigned him the task of moving the Club and the Associations to the next level. Little did Logan envision the decades of dedication that Jeff would bring to the Club. During his tenure Jeff oversaw the Golf Center Renovation in 1987 where the old Equestrian Center was transformed into the current Timber Trails Golf Center. The 2004 Pool Enhancement at the Lake Naomi Pool which involved building a new Café with a covered deck, expanding the restrooms to include a unisex handicap restroom and reconfiguring the steps at the far end of the pool to provide easier access. Also in the 2004 began the process of planning for the Community Center. This process was not an easy task to develop the plan for the Community Center that would best serve the Members and to convince the majority of the Members of the need and vision for this new amenity. Jeff’s proudest moment was on May 26, 2007 at the Grand Opening of the Community Center when it was dedicated to Logan Steele and Logan’s grandchildren participated in the ribbon cutting. Then in the Summer of 2009 the Lake Naomi Club was named as a Platinum Club of America. Among the criteria for inclusion are a history of excellence, quality of Membership, quality of governance, tradition and heritage, condition of facilities and the caliber of professional club management and staff.

In 2005 the transition of the Club’s General Manager began with the hiring of Robert Jones. Like everything Jeff did the plan for his retirement was well thought out and every detail covered. Jeff spent five years mentoring Robert so that transition would be seamless.

In 2010 Robert was named as the new General Manager, the third General Manager in the Club’s 47 years of existence. Jeff continues to serve the Club as Consulting Manager.

It is easy to tally the big events but it is overwhelming to list all the small events.

Think of the all the weather events, that includes ice storms, snow events, flooding and even a large hole in the dam in 1994. Think of all the meetings that Jeff prepared for and all the Member challenges he resolved. Also consider the staffing, working for a business that consumes your summer makes for a high turnover in employees. Jeff would seamlessly take on the duties and get the job done while starting the process of finding a great replacement.

Jeff also acknowledges the importance of education. Jeff started working for the Club with a Bachelors Degree in Community Development and a Masters Degree in Management from Springfield College in Massachusetts. He continued his education by becoming certified as a Master Community Manager (MCM) by the Community Managers International Association; certified as a Club Manager (CCM) and Certified Club Executive (CCE) by the Club Managers Association of America and as a Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) and Large-Scale Manager (LSM) by the Community Associations Institute. Jeff is one of only two Managers in the United States to achieve all five professional designations. Jeff is a frequent industry speaker and expert witness and is considered one of the top management experts on planned communities and private clubs in the United States.

As the Club takes on the task of honoring Mr. Evans it should be noted that Jeff’s philosophy is, “No matter how competent the General Manager is, he/she cannot do it alone. It takes a team of professionals in order to have Lake Naomi – Timber Tails operate in an efficient and effective manner.” The Club has been extremely fortunate to have a strong, committed, steadfast leader who took the vision of Logan Steele and dedicated over 42 years of service to Lake Naomi – Timber Trails.

50th Anniversary Summer Program In honor of the Club’s 50th Anniversary the Lake Naomi Clubhouse will be featuring the following great specials on Wednesday night.

“Beefeaters & Martini Evening” Wednesdays: June 26th , July 10th, July 31st and August 14th Meet new Members & Friends at the Clubhouse for Cocktail Hour and Food Specials from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The cocktail hour starts at the fireplace and north sundeck with a Raw Seafood Bar loaded with Virginia Oyster’s $2.00 each, Cherry Stone Clams $1.25 and Colossal Shrimp $2.80. French Cognac Dip, Cocktail Sauce and Lemon Wedges will be on hand. Then make the evening even more enjoyable by sipping one of the Bartenders Absolute Vodka & Beefeater Gin Martini Specialties for $6.00.

Member & Member Guest “Hops Beer & Social Evening” Wednesdays: July 3rd, July 17th, August 7th and August 28th Ein Frisch Gezapftes Bitte Fresh Draught Beer Samples Come experience some of the best beers the industry has to offer. These beers will be on draft at the Main Bar and Beach Duster Bar. The ticket includes three hours of unlimited sampling, a meal, live music and a souvenir glass. Beer samples begin at 5:00 PM with a Chef’s Buffet including fresh potato pancakes, bbq ribs, large variety of chicken wings and beer battered fried cod fish filets. Finish this fun event at the Duster Bar with our “Live Music on the Beach”. Must be 21 years. Advanced ticket purchase is $25 and $30 when purchased the day of the event. All samples of draft beer and Chef’s Buffet will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Music on the Beach will last through 10:00 PM.

Don’t Miss the Weekly Specials at the LNCH The following specials will be offered each week unless otherwise noted on the calendar: Sundays, through Labor Day Breakfast Buffet featuring varied breakfast items. Wake up with Sunday breakfast from 9 AM to 12 Noon. The price is $13.95 per adult and $7.50 for kids. Don’t forget to make your breakfast reservation.

Mondays, June 24th to August 26th “Traditional Pasta Night” at the Clubhouse. From 5:00 to 9:30 PM, enjoy the popular pasta station and antipasto/salad bar where you can select from a variety of pastas and sauces and a Chef will prepare it before your eyes. Eat as much soup, salad and pasta as you wish with a weekly dessert selection for only $16.00++ per person and $8.50++ for children. The Bistro menu will also be available from 5:00-9:00 PM. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. No reservations will be taken.

Wednesdays, July 10th to August 28th Musician Night on the Beach. Every other Wednesday in the month of July & August spend the warm summer nights at the Duster Bar with your favorite drink, good music and great friends. See the Weekly Flyer for more information.

Thursdays, July 11th to August 29th Join us each week for a Fest of great food, drinks and fun. Everything from Asian Night, Spanish Night, the one night in New Orleans and let’s not forget German Fest and our popular Vegetarian Fest from 5:30 to 9:00 PM. Fridays and Saturdays, June 28th to August 31st After dinner entertainment will be offered each Friday and Saturday night by local entertainers. Clubhouse Reservations and Member IDs Dining at the LNCH has grown in popularity this past year and will continue to do so throughout the season. This is attributed to the great job the Clubhouse Staff is doing both in the kitchen and in the dining areas. With this in mind, please be advised to make your reservations early so that you receive the desired time. Also understand that only a certain number of reservations can be taken for each time slot so there may be occasions when your preferred time is unavailable. The Club does not take reservations for the Grillroom or the Outdoor Deck, and there is frequently a waiting list for these areas.

Also remember that there is a dress code in the Clubhouse; Members are encouraged to refer to page 35 of the 2013 Leisure Service Guide for additional guidelines.

As at all of the other Lake Naomi - Timber Trails amenities, the LNCH will be checking Membership Identification Cards before you are seated, so please help us in helping you to keep the Lake Naomi Club private. Your understanding is appreciated.

New Member Orientation On Sunday, May 26th 89 new adult Members and 55 children attended the Orientation that was held at the Timber Trails Clubhouse. 30th Annual Independence Day Picnic Make plans now for the big Independence Day Celebration at Club Beach set for Thursday, July 4th from Noon to 6:00 PM. As always, there will be a large variety of picnic foods and refreshments plus entertainment. The day will begin at Noon with a flag raising ceremony. The live band, Blend, will entertain from Noon to 5:00 PM. Food and drink sales will be on a cash basis. There will be games and activities for kids of all ages including carnival games, relay games on the beach and face painters. Don’t miss the annual “Biggest Cookout of the Year”.

Lake Naomi Club Big on Recycling!

Please keep an eye out for the enhanced recycling systems being placed at all Club amenities and functions. The recycling containers will be placed at Club buildings along with pools and beaches. They are labeled to segregate plastics, aluminum, paper and regular trash.

The Club’s trash collection vendor utilizes a commingled recycling collection program whereby many types of recycling items can be placed in a single container and are then sorted respectively at the recycling plant.

Recycling is good for the environment, human health and the economy. The recyclables that you place in your curbside bin or Club recycling container begin a ripple effect of benefits. To start with, recyclables have value. By turning waste into valuable raw materials, recycling creates jobs, builds more competitive manufacturing and adds significantly to the nation’s economy.

Recycling also promotes the sustainable use of our natural resources, saves energy, reduces pollution and contributes to many other health and environmental benefits.

Following are items that are currently being collected under the Club’s curbside recycling program: Plastic Containers: Recycle #1 - #7 plastics only (mostly beverage and detergent containers). Look for one of these numbers on the bottom of the container to see if it’s acceptable. Please rinse.

Metal: Tin, aluminum cans, empty paint cans. Please rinse.

Glass: Jars and bottles.

Newspaper and Mixed Paper: Newspaper, magazines, mail (junk and personal), phone books, food boxes (remove plastic liner), computer paper, flyers, wrapping paper (no foil or plastic wrap), soda and beer cartons (no food soiled-soiled paper, Please!)

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

Trustee Coffee and Annual Member Meeting New Location Mark your calendar. Saturday, August 17th is the Trustee Coffee followed by the Annual Member Meeting which will be held at the Logan Steele Community Center. The Trustee Coffee is your chance to chat with the Lake Naomi Club Trustees on important issues you would like to discuss over a cup of coffee. No official presentation will be made. They will welcome any questions and they will also be happy to share with you why they choose to volunteer for the Lake Naomi Club.

The coffee will begin at 9:30 AM and the Annual Meeting will begin at 10:30 AM. Please feel free to also approach the Trustees and other volunteers with your questions and comments at other times throughout the year.

Summer Art Classes Once again this summer the Activities Committee brings back art classes with instruction from Al Steinberg and Barbara McCorkindale for watercolor and an acrylics class with Steve Kager.

Al’s sessions will be held on Monday mornings at 9:15 AM starting July 1st. Barbara returns this summer to offer her popular class on Tuesday afternoons at 1 PM starting July 2nd. There will not be class on July 9th due to the ladies luncheon.

Steve will join us this summer on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 AM starting July 10th.

These classes will be available for all painting levels from beginner through advanced. All sessions will meet in the Adult Activity Room at the Community Center.

Cost for each seven week class will be $85 plus the cost of supplies. A supply list will be available at the time of registration. Registration for the summer sessions is being taken at the Community Center, (570) 646-8585. While advance registration is required, all payments will be taken on the first day of class and made directly to the artists (check or cash).

Community Garden Program In addition to our Community Garden Boxes, LNC will offer a Garden Program.

Scheduled sessions may include crafting, food tasting, hands on gardening, and an instructional lesson with master gardener guest speakers. All Members are welcome to attend the garden Program regardless of whether they currently have a patch.

LNC Garden Programs & Events Saturdays in the Nature Building 10-11 AM. Programs will offer Taste it, Make it, & Take it! Refreshments, samples and/or recipes connected to the program.

Organic – It’s so much more than just a word! - July 6th We garden organically for a reason. Learn how simple choices can make huge differences in your environment, drinking water and your health.

Herbs and their Medicinal Properties - July 13th Most cultures use herbs daily as a preventive for better health. Learn how using different herbs - fresh or in cooking may affect your health.

July 20th – Getting the most out of your Herbs Learn how and when to harvest to extend the season. Should you freeze or dry your herbs?

Great tips for storing herbs to use during the winter. Tired of paying high prices for expensive herbed oils? Demonstrations and recipes show you how to make your own, fresh and varied concoctions. These make great gifts.

July 27th – In a pickle! Lets take all those extra veggies and learn how to make simple pickled mixes from garlic & dill, bread & butter to sweet & savory.

August 3rd - Boursin Herb Cheeses The favorite program of last year! Take your bounty of herbs and learn how to make a variety of these cheeses. You will be amazed at how easy this is. Another great gift idea!

Harvest Party - August 10th 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM The end of summer is near and it is time to gather with friends for great conversations, games with prizes and delicious food prepared by our gardeners. Everyone is encouraged to bring a sample of something made from their bounty along with a card describing your dish.

Garden Gathering and Harvest Party are free. Programs are $35.00 for the series or $10.00 drop in fee, paid at the Community Center.

Weight Watchers Weight Watchers meetings are being organized for the summer on Wednesdays at 8 AM with a start date yet to be determined. We need a firm commitment with payment in advance if you are interested in joining. The program will only run with 15 or more participants. Please call the Community Center at 570-646-8585 to get on the list ASAP so that we can proceed with scheduling a start date.

Guitar Lessons This Summer For the fourth consecutive year, guitar lessons will be offered this summer at the Logan Steele Community Center by Club Member Marty Gallocher. Lessons will be held every Sunday in July at 10 AM for a cost of $10 per session. Beginners, novices, adults and older children are all welcome. Classes may continue into August if so desired. Gaming Nights at LSCC Continuing this summer are the adult game nights. Monday night pinnocle, Tuesday night bridge, Wednesday night Mah Jongg and Thursday night canasta. All gaming groups meet at the Community Center at 7 PM except for bridge which starts at 6:45 PM.

Family Ceramics Tom and his team from Creative Outlet Ceramics return to us again this summer to provide the whole family with ceramic painting fun. As always, there will be many molds to choose from which are ready to be painted and range in price from $2 to $10. A $5 admittance fee applies to each participant and will be collected at the door. Classes will be held Wednesdays from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM beginning June 26th at the Community Center. Advanced sign-up is not necessary and all fees will be collected at the door.

Girls’ G irls’ N Night ight O Out ut Calling all Girls! Join us for a trip to Poke-A-Nose Pottery located in Bartonsville for a fun night of painting on Monday, August 5th. This night is for mother and daughters (or other adult/ child combination) to do some female bonding. Painting at this cute little shop will be from 5:00-7:00 PM and then it is over for a nice dinner. Cost of $30 per person includes the studio fee, transportation and dinner. Price of the piece to paint will be extra and is to be paid individually that evening.

Meet at the Community Center at 4:15 PM. The Girl’s Night Out is included on the Summer Activities Registration form which can be found in the Summer Calendar or online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com.

Movie Nights Begin Sunday night is family movie night all summer long! Beginning June 30th, the Recreation staff will project a large screen movie at the Community Center. Each week will rotate between a “G” and a “PG” movie. Children ages 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The last three movies of the summer, August 18th, 25th and September 1st will be Outdoor Movies. Outdoor movies will be shown at CLUB BEACH from 8:00 -10:00 PM. Admission is free and the café will be open for snacks. Watch the Weekly Flyer for movie titles each week!

New Recreation Programs This Summer!!

It is hard to believe that the 2013 summer season is on us already. I know some of the fun each summer is for our Members to see what is “new at the Lake Naomi Club”. Check out the changes going on at Mountaintop Lodge Coffee/Pastry Shop and the Park at Club Beach, the new archery range, or see how the new rain barrel system at the community garden works. We also have some new or recently added recreation programs, like: Senior Teen Trips (10th to 12th grades only) • Hibachi & a Movie • Reading Rock’s Ropes Course and Climbing • Hiking Trip on the Appalachian Trail • Scuba Diving Family Day at the Ballpark with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders Paintball at Skirmish Rafting with Pocono Whitewater (All trips are scheduled for dam releases) Family Campout New Nature Hike Destinations For more information about any of these or any other activities please see the 2013 Summer Calendar, the Weekly Flyer, or ask the Community Center. Sports Squirts Returns to Lake Naomi Club This program is now headed up by the Club’s Recreation Staff Team and is offered for the youngest Members who are 3, 4 and 5 years old. Children will find themselves introduced to a variety of different sports utilizing games, activities and drills that pertain to the different sports. Sessions will take place every Thursday evening between June 27th and August 1st from 6:00 – 6:45 PM at the Community Center. Cost for these sessions are $10 per session or $50 for all six sessions. All sessions will be held on an outdoor field unless there is inclement weather. Family Adventure Race Have you always thought you should be in the Amazing Race? Well now you can be Lake Naomi Club style with the Family Adventure Race. The Recreation Committee is hosting the Third Annual Family Adventure Race and Cookout on July 20th from 3:00-7:00 PM. Your family team of four or more will compete in a series of choices and challenges around Lake Naomi Club that will test your body and mind (and your sense of humor, as well). At the end of your adventure you can share tales of the day at the family cookout and find out how your team placed in the ultimate family adventure.

Family Campout

Get into camping with the Lake Naomi Club Family Campout! On August 10th bring the whole family down to the Community Center for a night of fun camping activities around the fire. Pitch your tent in the field, roll out your sleeping bags and then enjoy games, crafts, skits and songs with the Lake Naomi Club Camp Counselors. Then sit around the camp fire and roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories, or just lay back and look at the stars! Wake up the next morning for a hot breakfast right in the field. Make a whole outdoor adventure weekend of it and sign up for the Family Rafting trip on August 11th; it’s a dam release day! See the Community Center in July for event details.

Kids, Kub and Afternoon Klub Online Registration 2013 We are excited to once again make it possible for you to sign up over the internet for any of the Club’s day camps – Kids Klub, Afternoon Klub or Kub Klub. Each day camp’s brochure is also available to view online if you do not have a hard copy. All you have to do is go to the Members section of www.LakeNaomiClub.com and look under the tabs What’s Happening and Kids Klub Information. Kindly make sure that you have read the corresponding brochure before registering!

Night Recreation – 2013 Night Recreation is an opportunity for young Members and guests going into the third grade and above to come to the Community Center to meet friends and have fun participating in staff supervised activities. es There will be some changes again to the Night Recreation program this summer. Due to the changing of the age of unaccompanied minors at LNC, we want to provide supervision for our rising third and fourth grade Members and guests.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays third and fourth graders will sign in and be assigned a counselor for the night that will keep track of them and provide supervision during the activities. Fifth graders and above will still have Night Recreation Monday through Friday and will be free to come and go as they please, same as last year. The Shuttle Bus (Red Route) will run every hour and can pick up or drop off the participants.

Recreation staff will be on hand for a variety of games and activities. Night Recreation will be held every week Monday through Friday from June 24th – August 23rd. The game room, multi-purpose room, mezzanine area, outdoor pavilion, outdoor fields, and some activity rooms will be available for participants.

Fitness Update The fitness department would like to remind you to check the class schedule for possible changes. Any class packages purchased in 2012 expire on June 22, 2013. Stop at the front desk of the Community Center to update your package. We recommend that you sign up for classes 48 hrs in advance as space is limited. The schedule will be printed on a weekly basis in the weekly flyer as it is subject to change based on class needs and instructor availability. Please arrive on time to properly warm up and be sure to stay through the cool down segments of class for your safety. Look for information in the Fitness Center on additional programs. The Bootcamp and Basic Training Programs are back this year and not a part of the regular fitness packages. See your summer calendar or program flyers for details. We offer classes in the areas of yoga, indoor cycling, pilates, strength training, and more. Also check the summer calendar for information on our special events.

As the Fitness Center becomes more widely used, we would like to remind you to refer to your Leisure Service Guide as to the guidelines for use of the Center. Please be considerate of fellow Members when using the cardiovascular machines and abide by the 30 minute time limit. Fitness attendants are on staff and ready to assist you. Open Water Swimming Weekly open swimming is planned for Saturdays at Club Beach this summer on: July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3,10.

Seasoned swimmers, multi-sport enthusiasts or those training for triathlons are invited to “open-water swim”. Meet at Club Beach to check in at 5:50 PM for the one hour swim from 6:00-7:00 PM weather permitting. There is a $2 fee per swimmer for the additional safety boat that will be dedicated just to these swimmers. A course will be marked with buoys to help swimmers navigate as well as making other boaters aware of your intended path. Swimmers must wear a brightly colored swim cap for the purpose of keeping themselves visible to boaters. Swim caps will be available for purchase in the Sailing Office.

Adult Swim Lessons Available The Club offers Adult Swim Lessons for Older Teens and Adults (age 14 yrs and up) Three sessions are available, each over a two week time period.

Session 1: June 24th – July 4th (Registration begins Monday, June17th) Session 2: July 8th – July 18th (Registration begins Monday, July 1st) Session 3: July 22nd – August 1st (Registration begins Monday, July 15th) Classes meet Monday – Thursday and are offered at 2 times during each session from 1:00-1:40 PM and 2:00 – 2:40 PM. In addition to these lesson times, we are fortunate to have the professional staff to offer private swim instruction to Members of all ages on a year round basis. Water Aerobics Update BIG NEWS for Members looking forward to Water Aerobics this summer. Long term water aerobics erobics instructor Jaime Nuss will be returning to instruct Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning classes. She has heard your requests and is willing to return as your primary instructor.

Thursday will be equally exciting as we are introducing Water Zumba to the shallow water time slot. Certified Instructor Naomi Betancourt who provides indoor instruction at the LSCC will move over to the LN Pool Thursdays to teach the extremely fun and energetic Zumba aqua style.

Deep Water on Thursdays will be provided by LSCC Certified Personal Trainer and Spin Trainer Justin Johnson who will take you through deep water moves and stretching to close out your Water Aerobics week.

The Water Aerobics schedule for the Lake Naomi Pool includes: Shallow Water (10:15-11:00AM) and Deep Water (11:15AM to Noon) Monday through Thursdays, June 24th – August 15th. Neither requires registration prior to the day of class, but all participants must sign in with the Control Booth. Deep Water classes only accommodate 14 Members so feel free to come early each day to insure your deep water place.

Shop Poolside The Lake Naomi Pool Control Booth carries your summer time pool essentials like hats, bags, sunscreen, ear plugs, goggles, children’s arm floats, swimmy diapers, etc.

These items will be available any time the control booth is open which is 10 AM-7 PM, 7 days a week beginning Saturday, June 22nd for the 2013 Summer Season.

Indoor Cycling The Lake Naomi Club is pleased to announce the addition of Schwinn AC Sport Bikes to the Club’s programing. Indoor cycling classes will be offered daily (see the schedule located at the front desk for specific class times). Members are welcome to use the bikes when a class is not in session at no charge for a period of 30 minutes. Please see the Community Center Supervisor to obtain access to the room during regular hours. Class size is limited.

Riders are encouraged to sign up for class 48 hours prior by calling the Community Center.

Members may only attend one class per day unless there is space available.

Swim Lesson Registration It is time to start thinking about swimming and signing your kids up for the Club’s Learn-To-Swim Program included in the pool membership at no extra charge. Classes are based on child’s age and swimming ability. A Parent and Child class will be offered for parents and children ages 6 month-3 yrs, Preschool Class for 3-5yr olds and a Grade School Class for kids 6 & up.

Three two week sessions will be offered: Session 1 June 24th – July 4th (Registration begins Monday, June 17th)

Session 2 July 8th – July 18th (Registration begins Monday, July 1st)

Session 3 July 22nd – August 1st (Registration begins Monday, July 15th)

Pool Luau Don’t forget to mark Saturday, July 13th on your calendars to attend the Luau! Adult Pool Members and Guests can join in the fun from 6:30– 11:30 PM. Enjoy a Luau-themed buffet catered by the Clubhouse, terrific DJ entertainment, dancing and activities! The cost for the evening is $32 per person. Break out your old wooden racquet for the Mixed Doubles Round Robin!! Go in search of some 60s attire now to go along with the theme as all things will be 1963.

Post RR play Members are encouraged to participate in a Member BYO Covered Dish Social on deck with 60’s music, 60’s trivia and a “Guess Who” photo board of your fellow Tennis Members. Scan and send us copies of photographs from the 60s of you and your family to include in the memory collage we’ll make a part of this fun event. Prizes will be rewarded for the most correct identifications in the “Who’s Who.” The Tennis Proshop will be collecting photos at tennis@lakenaomiclub.com. If you have an original photo simply take a snapshot of it with your smart phone and include the names of those in the picture and where it was taken in your email.

Anyone with 60’s tennis memorabilia that would like to lend it to the Tennis Proshop for decorating the event is thanked in advance for doing so.

Also – this is an event that will include a pin in the limited edition Event Series pins being offered throughout the 50th year.

Lake Naomi Tennis is Going GREEN In an effort to reduce waste and protect the pristine nature of our Lake Naomi Community, Lake Naomi Tennis is asking our Members and their Guests to please bring reusable cups or water bottles with them when coming out to play or spectate. Water and ice will be provided as always to fill your reusable bottles, and cups will be available from the Tennis Café or Pro Shop as needed. In addition, we will happily label, clean, and store your personal water cup or bottle in the Café so it is on-hand and ready for your next visit to the courts! Help us help our environment by making this new program a success!

Tennis Season Kickoff 2013

The Lake Naomi Club Tennis Committee held their Annual Season Kickoff on Sunday, May 26th at the Lake Naomi Tennis Center. Both Tennis Members and Non-Tennis Members were invited to play in a Mixed Doubles Round Robin and socialize with others on the deck where an enjoyable spread of snacks and refreshments prepared by the Club were available for participants to enjoy. Twenty-eight players registered to play Round Robin Tennis while additional spectators came out to watch. Tennis Professional Bobby McKee and Tennis Coordinator Margaret Hickey were available to help answer questions and explain some of the Special Events being held at Tennis this year. Tennis Committee Members also greeted Members who have an interest in getting more involved in the Tennis Program. Family Sailing Tailgate Party and Sailing 50th Anniversary Celebration The Sailing Instructors and Committee are hosting a Family Sailing Tailgate Party in honor of the Junior Regatta on Friday, August 9th from 6:00 PM -9:00 PM at Club Beach. Families are invited to kickoff the big weekend of Junior racing with socializing, fun and the ever popular kayak relays. Members can bring dinner to the beach that evening, which is not a regular Club policy. Although the picnicking g on the beach policy will be relaxed for this event, the NO GLASS policy will not.

This great night of family fun will be extra special this year. At dusk the th LNC Sailing Association will launch 50 sky lanterns in honor of the Club’s C 50th year. This is an extra special occasion as the Sailing Program actually predates the Club and some of our sailors helped shape the origac inal Board of Governors and Club’s Leisure Service Guide which have in bbecome the bones of the Organization’s structure all these years.

So no matter where wh you are on August 9th, take a few minutes to check out the sky… each flying lantern above marks one of the 50 fantastic years of LNC.

Meg Whitney Memorial Fun Race The Lake Naomi Sailing Association is proud to announce The Meg Whitney Memorial Fun Race will be held for a third year, kicking off the NRPT (Not Ready for Prime Time) sailing season on July 6th at 2:30 PM. All Club Members, regardless of experience, are invited to participate in this race honoring the memory of Meg Whitney and the heritage of sailing at Lake Naomi. Meet other sailors, have fun and stay after the race for the awards presentation.

You may sail in the race either by yourself or accompanied by one of Lake Naomi’s seasoned sailors. If you wish to participate and don’t have your own boat, the sailing office can arrange one for you. Registration for the race will take place through the sailing office at Club Beach starting on June 22nd and will continue up until the morning of the races.

Sailing was one of the first organized activities on Lake Naomi with the first race on Labor Day weekend in 1951. The race was held in thick fog with bell ringers at each buoy. Meg Dening Whitney was one of 5 sailors determined to sail through the fog that day and continued doing so in her Duster in practically every race, every summer for 60 years before being stricken with brain cancer and passing away in December of 2009.

During her sailing years she was responsible for setting up the first formal program to teach sailing to juniors, beginning in the 1960’s. She always remained a willing volunteer for sailing sharing her passion and serving as an inspiration to all types of sailors.

Meg Whitney is remembered by her fellow sailors as a strong competitor who also had a lot of fun… this is exactly why this NTRP special event was created to celebrate and spread her love of sailing.

2013 Sailing Association Lake Naomi Club’s Sailing Association (LNCSA) annually elects Members to serve as the Sailing Council which acts as the core of the Sailing Committee and assists with scheduling and preparing sailing regattas, events and programs for the Lake Naomi Club. Breast Cancer Rally Tennis Event The Tennis Center will again host a fun event while providing an opportunity to help others in our local area. Join your fellow lady tennis players on Wednesday, July 17th at Lake Naomi Tennis for a morning of fun while supporting a great cause. Beginning at 9 AM, Members will participate in a rotation of round robin tennis, cardio tennis, amusing tennis contests and finish with a social and refreshments on deck. Donations for the basket raffle can be made at the Pro Shop and pink Rally bracelets are available also. This day of Tennis is in addition to the Golf Tournament and Clubhouse Dinner/ Auction raising money for the Breast Cancer Rally. All reservations will be taken at the Administrative Office.

Wimbledon Strawberries and Crème The 2013 Wimbledon Strawberries and Crème will be held on Sunday, July 7th. Tennis Members are invited to play in a mixed doubles Round Robin from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Play will consist of four thirty-minute sessions. Player rotations may occur based on the number of event participants. At 6:00 PM all that exercise will be rewarded with shortcakes, fresh strawberries, homemade whipped crème, pastries, orange juice, champagne, and soft drinks. Cost for this event including food service is $16 for Gold Members and $21 for Silver Members. Spectators may participate in the post-play social for $15. Please pre-register in the Tennis Pro shop by Wednesday, July 3rd at 3:00 PM. Don’t miss this annual favorite at Lake Naomi Tennis!

The TAG lists all the details of the Weekly Round Robins, Special Events, and Tournaments the Lake Naomi Club plans under the direction of the Tennis Committee. In an effort to reduce paper usage, the TAG is also available online under the Tennis tab of What’s Happening. Members are encouraged to continue to make suggestions regarding events by placing comments in the Comment Box next to the Tennis Committee’s bulletin board outside the Lake Naomi Tennis Center Pro Shop. Golf Tournaments The Parent/Grandparent-Child Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 13th with a 3:00 PM shotgun start preceded by a barbeque cookout from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. This event is a great way to spend a memorable day on the links with your child or grandchild The Timber Trails - Lake Naomi Breast Cancer Rally is set for Thursday, July 18th. There are three shotgun starts at 8:00 AM, 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM available for the players. This amazing charity tournament is always an enjoyable and gratifying day.

The Member/Member – Member/ Guest Tournament is on Saturday, July 20th. This is a 3:00 PM shotgun start followed by a barbeque dinner.

The Timber Trails Club Championship will be conducted Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th.

The Golf Social and Banquet will be the evening of Sunday August 11th.

This summer the Lake Naomi Club Golf Members will learn a fun new way to play golf. New to the golf course are family tee markers which permit the golfer to play from a teeing area closer to the green. The beginner golfer will have a more enjoyable experience on the golf course. To help introduce these new teeing areas there will be three Family Golf Introduction workshops for the Members to learn from the golf professional, the golf interns, and other volunteers about the fundamentals, safety, and etiquette of the game of golf. The three classes will be held on June 22nd, June 29th, and July 6th at 4:00 PM and will approximately last for one hour. w This is a great opportunity for Members who want to take up the game or play more often. Playing the family tees will let you play the ga game with less pressure and simply have more fun. In addition to the ga introductory workshops the family teeing areas will be used for the in new Family Fun Golf Event on Saturday July 27th at 4:00 PM. Memne bers who are interested in playing in the Family Fun Golf Event are be encouraged to attend one of the introductory workshops held in the en w weeks prior to the event.

Golf Notes Summer is right around the corner and we are getting ready for some big events at the Timber Trails Golf Course. The Memorial Day tournament was played under extremely windy conditions conditions.

The winner of the tournament was Matt Zeng, finishing second was Nolan Flynn. The winner of our annual prestigious putting tournament was Tom Rosser. Tom’s putting was described by an onlooker as masterful and majestic.

Congrats to Rob Ungvary for his hole-in-one at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club in Lihue, Hawaii. Rob hit a 7-iron from 165 yards at the prestigious golf facility while playing in a junior golf tournament with his son Holden. Along with making his first hole-in-one, the Ungvary’s won the junior tournament. Congratulations!

Tip Golden recorded the third ace of his career, when he holed his 5 hybrid on Memorial Day. Witnessing this tremendous shot was Penny Antrim, Carol Burnham and Jim Burnham.

Couples Golf will get started on Sunday June 9th and will be held every Sunday until Labor Day excluding June 23rd, July 14th and August 11th. Appetizers will be served at 3:30 PM prior to the 4:00 PM shotgun start. All players should call the Golf Center by Friday at 5:00 PM to sign up. Golf Course Evacuation As we all know, summer storms can blow up on us in a hurry when we are on the golf course. To help keep everyone safe and dry the golf pro shop will sound an air horn to advise golfers of inclement weather. The staff will blow three long blasts with the air horn as an advisory to leave the course due to incoming bad weather. This includes rain, thunder, lightning and high winds. On Tee Box #6 is a Lightning-Rain Shelter for your safety if you get caught in a storm.

One of the biggest things that we try to enforce here at Timber Trails is to maintain a good pace of play. Having only 9 holes it is imperative to play in a timely manner so all Members can enjoy their rounds of golf. In order to maintain a good pace of play it is important to understand how long you have to look for a lost ball on the golf course. The USGA rule for the amount of time you are allowed to search for your ball is 5 minutes, but since we are a 9 hole facility, our local rule for searching for your ball is 2 minutes. One thing that we suggest all of our Members do, if you have any doubt that your golf ball is not in play, is to play a provisional ball. Before hitting the provisional, the player first announces he or she will be hitting a provisional. If the original ball is found and is not out of bounds, then the original ball should be played. A player is not permitted to play the provisional ball if the first ball is found in bounds. Playing a provisional is very smart because it maintains a great pace of play, it will not make you have to take the “walk of shame” and you get to hit that shot that you knew you could have done in the first place.

Kid’s Fishing Clinic and Fishing Derby The Clinic and Derby will be held on Saturday, July 13th. Young Members and their parents are invited to Trout Pond from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to help with a fish stocking and then learn about this great lifetime sport. Stations will be set up to help small groups and kids learn about casting, bait, lures and the proper handling along with live release of fish. Prizes will be awarded to the top three places of the most fish caught and the largest fish caught.

Lake Committee Members will be conducting the Clinic and Derby and look forward to answering your questions and assisting with this family fun morning. No pre-registration is required. Members should just come out, check in upon arrival and be a part of the fun.

Kid’s Fishing Lessons For the fifth year the Lakes Committee will provide fishing lessons to the young Members. Many Members who never had the opportunity to learn how to fish have been asking for fishing lessons for their children ages 5-13. The first class will be Thursday, June 27th and offered every Thursday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM during July and August. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the great sport of fishing to your children. Sign-up for these classes will held be at the Community Center and each class is limited to five children. They will learn the technique of baiting a hook, reeling in a fish and the proper way to release the fish without harm.

LN -TT FINE ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW This is another reminder that the Activities Committee is once again hosting the fourth Juried Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Arts and Crafts Show on Saturday, August 3, 2013. It is held in the Community Center from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The show is going to have many wonderful artisans again this year – those returning are anxious to be back and 20 new vendors can't wait to participate. We are very excited about all the new vendors - a few have jaw dropping handmade items. This is a wonderful activity for the community and the Committee hopes that you will find a little time during the day to support it. As you know, the money that is raised will be given to the Top of the Mountain Ecumenical Food Pantry, and because of your support they were overwhelmed to receive our check last year for almost $6,000. The Food Pantry will be moving to Pocono Pines and it would be wonderful to give our new neighbors another generous gift.

LN-TT Breast Cancer Rally Update We are getting closer to our Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Breast Cancer Rally. We are excited about the events that make up our rally. We want to encourage as many families as we can to join our 5K Walk/Run. This event is opened to everyone; men, women and children. It will be held in the Pinecrest Community, a beautiful venue and as with our golf and tennis events, all the money goes to the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Organization and stays here in the Poconos. Registration forms are available at the Logan Steele Community Center and the Administration Office.

We are encouraging sponsorship in the “Pink Pages” section of the sponsor book. There are opportunities to dedicate and/or sponsor holes, courts and water stations. 2013 Community Cookouts Join us at Club Beach on Tuesday evenings this summer from June 25th through August 27th for our weekly Community cookouts. Each week features a different theme complimented by food and activities to accent the evening. August 20st - Around the World Food and fun that celebrate the world’s diversity August 27th - Summer Sizzler End of season cookout celebration This is a night the whole family can enjoy! Cookouts are held from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Club Beach, except for Carnival night which will be held at the Community Center.

Annual Ladies' Luncheon The Annual Ladies Luncheon will be held on Tuesday July 9, 2013 at the LN Clubhouse at 11:30 AM. We will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Club with a 1960’s theme. There will be fun entertainment and raffle baskets to benefit the Clymer Library. The cost is $26 per person and pre-registration is required. The summer season is here and so are the guests!

Thank you to all our members who have supported the Lodge so far whether it’s by coming into the pastry shop for a delectable treat or having your family and friends stay with us while in town. Do you run a business that does sales meetings, retreats or training sessions? You may want to consider hosting your next event at the Mountaintop Lodge. We can work with you to arrange lodging, meals and meeting spaces both at the Lodge itself and at the Community Center. The TGI Sales Force joined us in early June and had this to say about their experience… “This past weekend, our sales team went to the beautiful Mountaintop Lodge for a sales meeting led by Kate Dunn, from Info Trends.

The retreat was very informative and a great experience for our sales team. Carolyn and her staff at The Mountaintop Lodge did an outstanding job accommodating our needs for the two day event. The rooms are gorgeous, breakfast was delicious and the use of the Community Center and Lodge for our meetings was just perfect!”

Also exciting is the announcement of our second Yoga Retreat. This three day event will take place from September 27th through 29th. Our first retreat was attended by eight participants who participated in nature walks, yoga classes, meditation sessions, informative discussions and healthy, tasty meals. Emails were sent following the retreat including… “It was such a pleasure spending the weekend together and doing such neat things at our own Lake Naomi and Mountaintop Lodge. We can't wait for the next!” from Shannon. Maria wrote “Great yoga and great company” and Barb said “It is hard to believe a whole week has passed by since our yoga workshop.

I can finally move my legs and arms again…My goal was to try to meditate more....... hmmm I tried once for about 5 minutes. I need all your energy to do it.” Will you join us for the next retreat? What’s New at the Mountaintop Lodge Coffee Shop?

The Mountaintop Lodge is excited to announce that the BAGELS are here!!! We will have fresh baked bagels available every single day with whipped and flavored cream cheeses and lox. Pre-orders are welcomed for anyone wanting to guarantee availability of 6 or more bagels. To pre-order, please call the Lodge at 646-6636 by 3:00 PM the day before you would like to pick up (Sunday orders need to be called in

by Friday) and we will have them bagged and ready to go.

Also new this summer, we will be offering fresh cut fruit cups, individual yogurt cups, yogurt parfaits and whole fruit. This way you can join us for an indulgence or a healthy treat. Chef Don has been filling the case with several new treats including Lemon Walnut Cake, Banana Bran Muffins and Black and White Cookies. There’s always something here to tempt your taste buds.

We would like to hear from you. From now until July 15th, Chef Don will be taking suggestions for a new muffin flavor. All submissions will be considered and Chef Don will choose a weekly muffin to create for the Lodge. The Member with the “winning muffin” will receive a $10.00 SVC card and have their name on their creation. Stop in the Lodge to fill in out the muffin creation form.

Lake Naomi Club Q & A Why are Golf Maintenance and the Club Contractors permitted to mow grass before and after the “contractor hours” set by the Club and the Associations?

The Club amenities are not subject to the residential deed restrictions and thus the architectural regulations. It is a case of something that benefits Club Members in mass versus a project that benefits a single Club/Community Member. Thus the Club is not subject to the contractor hour limitations.

Otherwise the Club would not be able to service the various facilities and have the facilities ready for Member use.

I am a Basic Member. Why can’t I use the Community Center Pool in July and August?

The reasoning for the pool “blackout period” being announced right from the start of the discussion regarding the proposed Community Center was based on fairness and financial viability. While Basic Members pay the Capital Assessment for the Community Center which provides the right for them to utilize the Community Center for all of the year and the indoor pool at the Community Center for all but the 73 days prior to Labor Day, Basic Members are not paying the operating costs of the Community Center Pool during the blackout period. Those costs are paid by only those Members subscribing to the pool membership.

I have seen motor boats on Lake Naomi.

I thought they weren’t permitted?

The Club owns four Boston Whaler Patrol Boats. At the height of the boating season, a maximum of three of the Safety Boats are in use. These are the only gasoline powered motor boats permitted on Lake Naomi.

What are the pontoon boats I have seen on Lake Naomi?

The Club owns two pontoon boats.

One is moored off of Club Beach and utilized by the Sailing Committee to organize and direct the sailing races.

This pontoon boat is also utilized by Club Team Members to assist with the sailing instruction program.

The second Club owned pontoon boat is stored at the Floating Marina located at the Administrative Office and is powered by an electric motor.

It is utilized by the Lakes Committee for their fishing instructional program as well as for the placement of fish habitat in the Lake.
