On behalf of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce and our more than 850 active business members, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the Lake Norman region. Nestled on the banks of beautiful Lake Norman, our lake towns offer the perfect opportunity for both visitors and newcomers to enjoy the lake living lifestyle of Cornelius and Mooresville, the smalltown college charm of Davidson and the vitality of Huntersville with its abundant shopping and recreational facilities.
Lake Norman, located just outside of Charlotte, provides visitors and newcomers with a window to the past and an eye to the future. The lake is home to the land where the Catawba Indians once walked, and the early European settlers made their stand. Today, it is home to vibrant business parks and retail centers. New neighborhoods have emerged and families have relocated to the area, making Lake Norman one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
Our proximity to the cultural opportunities of Charlotte, mixed with the charm and lake living lifestyle of our small towns, make
Lake Norman a great place to work, live and visit. We encourage you to use this important resource to enjoy our diverse array of retailers, shopping centers and restaurants. Treat yourself to the Charlotte region’s premier parks or take in one of our historical sites.
We hope Great Lake Living gives you a glimpse into why so many new families are making Lake Norman their home. Visitors and residents can browse VisitLakeNorman. org for more information on dining and entertainment, and newcomers and prospective businesses can find out more about the region at LakeNormanChamber. org. Again, on behalf of our business community and our lake towns, we welcome you to Lake Norman.

BECAUSE OF LONG ISLAND
COTTON MILL’S SUCCESS IN THE EARLY 1900S, THIS DAM WAS BUILT TO SUPPLY ADDITIONAL POWER IN 1919.
Early 1900s - James B. Duke and Dr. W. Gil Wylie began brainstorming how a series of damns on the Catawba River could provide hydroelectricity to residents of the South.
Sept. 28, 1959 - Duke Power (now Duke Energy) breaks ground on the Cowans Ford Dam.
1963 – Bill Lee, the grandson of William S. Lee and the chairman of Duke Power Company, led the completion of the dam, which was completed at a length of 7,387 feet. The communities of two river crossings, Sherrill’s Ford and Beatty’s Ford are flooded, along with many original homesites, in order to complete the man-made Lake Norman.
1964 – Duke Power offers more than 2,600 cottage sites with leases starting at $120 a year.
1990s – Charlotte’s thriving business environment attracts more and more residents to the shores of Lake Norman when they realize they can live in a lakeside retreat with only a 30- to 40-minute commute into the city.
Today - Lake Norman remains a peaceful respite for an extraordinary community of people.
Other notable facts:
The Long Island Mill, one of the earliest cotton mills in the American South, opened in the mid-1800s, and closed in 1959 before being covered by Lake Norman. Underneath the lake, there are the remains of a summer camp that opened in 1938 as well as the site of the Battle of Cowan’s Ford where General William Lee Davidson fought Lord Cornwallis in 1781. There are also old plantations, old homesites, old highways, there is even an airplane discovered by firefighters using sonar in 2013.
Living on a lake can be fun, but it’s important to know the rules to keep yourself and other passengers safe while out on the water with your personal watercraft.
The N.C. General Assembly enacted a personal watercraft (PWC) law that took effect Dec. 1, 1999. On June 30, 2000 this law was amended. Below is a summary of the law:
Anyone 14 years old but younger than 26 can operate a PWC if:
•they have successfully completed an approved boating safety education course (proof of age and safety course completion must be carried during operation);
•they are riding with a person who is at least 18 and is in compliance with the Boating Education Requirement Law (G.S. 75A-16.2).
•It is unlawful for the owner of a PWC to knowingly allow a person younger than 16 to operate a PWC unless they have first completed an approved boating safety education course.
• It is unlawful for anyone who has temporary or permanent responsibility for a person younger than 16 to knowingly allow that person to operate a PWC unless they have first completed an approved boating safety education course.
• No one can operate a PWC on state waters between sunset and sunrise.
All PWC riders, passengers and those being towed must wear approved personal flotation devices.
• If the PWC is equipped with a lanyard-type engine cut off switch, the lanyard must be worn by the operator at all times.
• A PWC must have a rearview mirror or an observer on board besides the operator to legally tow someone on skis or similar device.
• PWCs must be operated at all times in a reasonable and prudent manner. Maneuvers that endanger people or property constitute reckless operation.
No person shall operate a personal watercraft on the waters of this State at greater than no-wake speed within 100 feet of an anchored or moored vessel, a dock, pier, swim float, marked swimming area, swimmers, surfers,
persons engaged in angling, or any manually operated propelled vessel, unless the personal watercraft is operating in a narrow channel (see below).
• No person shall operate a personal watercraft in a narrow channel (see below) at greater than no-wake speed within 50 feet of an anchored or moored vessel, a dock, pier, swim float, marked swimming area, swimmers, surfers, persons engaged in angling, or any manually operated propelled vessel.
• No person shall operate a PWC towing another person on water skis or similar device unless the total number of persons operating, observing, and being towed does not exceed the number of passengers identified by the manufacturer as the maximum safe load for the vessel.
Reckless operation includes:
Unreasonable or unnecessary weaving through congested boat traffic.
• Jumping the wake of a vessel within 100 feet of the vessel or when visibility is obstructed.
• Intentionally approaching a vessel in order to swerve at the last moment.
Operating contrary to the “rules of the road”.
• Following too closely (see below) to another vessel, including another personal watercraft.
Renting PWCs:
• No one shall rent a PWC to someone under 16 unless that person meets the conditions in the section “Who Can Operate a PWC?”
• A minimum of $300,000 insurance must be carried on each PWC that is rented to the public.
Narrow channel: A “narrow channel” means a segment of the waters of the State 300 feet or less in width.
Following too closely :
The term “following too closely” means proceeding in the same direction and operating at a speed in excess of 10 miles per hour when approaching within 100 feet to the rear or 50 feet to the side of another vessel that is underway unless that vessel is operating in a narrow channel, in which case a personal watercraft may operate at the speed and flow of other vessel traffic.

One of the best things about living in a lake area is, well, access to a 34-mile long lake with more than 520 miles of shoreline. Even if you don’t live on the water or own a boat, you can join a boating club or rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard for a little exercise through local businesses and the Lake Norman YMCA. But what about if you want to actually just rent a boat for a few hours with some close friends or family? What are some things you need to know? Here are a few things to know about the best way to enjoy a day on the water without the responsibility of boat ownership or maintenance.
Safety first – anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988 must complete and show proof of the NASBLA boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater. The course is free and available online through www.boatus.org. Some boat rental places also require you have previous boating experience.
Depending on your needs, there are local businesses in the Lake Norman area that offer rentals for WaveRunners and pontoon boats. You reserve a boat in advance for two to four hours and meet the boat at one of the local boat ramps (such as Blythe Landing or Ramsey Creek Park). In many
cases, the boat rental company stocks the boat with coolers of ice and snacks, swimming noodles and directions for places to see on the lake. You simply get in the boat, take off for a day in the sun and return the boat to the same dock.
Obviously, spring and summer are going to be busier seasons for boating, so make sure to do your research on the different boat rental companies and plan to make reservations well in advance of when you’d like to go on the lake. Options such as Cornelius Pontoon Rentals and Carolina Boat Rentals are located in Cornelius. Lake Norman Boat Rental and Sales in Mooresville has a variety of boats for rent, plus experienced drivers for an additional cost if you prefer to go that route, plus tube rental kits.
The bottom line is, there are plenty of ways you can enjoy a day out on the lake jet skiing, boating, tubing, docking on an island and swimming to your heart’s desire. A good starting point is www.VisitLakeNorman.org where you can research which rental company has the best options for your needs. Then make your reservation, suit up in your jacket (required for children under 13 at all times and recommended for everyone else), and enjoy lake life at its finest.
If it’s April, it must be time for a long-standing Lake Norman area tradition — it’s time to make room on your calendar for the annual Loch Norman Highland Games and the accompanying festival celebrating Scottish heritage. The event is a recognition of the large number of ScotsIrish immigrants who settled in the Mecklenburg area in the 1700s. In fact, a majority of the signers of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence from British rule of May 20, 1775 (yes, a full year before our country’s Declaration of Independence was signed), were Scots-Irish. Several family lines remain here — particularly in northern Mecklenburg County – to this day.
Held at Huntersville’s Historic Rural Hill Farm, the games are a celebration that, according to local lore, may have first happened on U.S. soil more than 200 years ago in Ellerbe, North Carolina (about 100 miles east-southeast of Lake Norman). That may or may not be fact, but we can absolutely confirm that Rural Hill has been the games’ home for decades — in 2024, Lake Norman natives and those new to the area will celebrate 30 years of the Loch Norman Highland Games and all its pageantry.
Held April 20-21, festival goers can expect to see the heavy athletics hallmarks of any Highland festival, including tossing the caber, the hammer throw and tug-owar. If not watching the athletic competitors, make sure to catch the Highland dancing or bagpipe band competitions, traditional and contemporary Celtic music performances and whisky tastings, or even try your hand at shooting a long bow or throwing a battle axe. There are also plenty of
shopping opportunities, food and beverage vendors and even a chance — with a little help from the various Scottish clan societies on hand — to possibly discover any Scottish or Scots-Irish ties of your own.
It’s not just the Loch Norman Highland Games that call Rural Hill home each year. On New Year’s Day, take part in the annual “First Footin’ 2024” to celebrate the Scottish new year or Hogmanay, a free event where guests can enjoy a bowl of vegetable soup and a guided walk around the property to learn more about Rural Hill’s history, which dates back to the 18th century.
In September, it’s time for the Amazing Maize Maze — a family-friendly event spread across seven acres and one of the largest corn mazes in the Southeast. Usually running from mid-September to early November, there are typically night maze events available as well, on Fridays and Saturdays in October.
And don’t miss the Rural Hill Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival in early November. Watch champion Border Collies and their handlers who, using only voice and whistle commands to communicate, herd a flock of sheep through a series of gates and into a pen. There will also be plenty of kids’ activities, food and drink vendors, exhibits and demonstrations. And, of course, your dog is more than welcome to attend.
Learn more about Rural Hill and all it has to offer at www.ruralhill.net, or visit the farm at 4431 Neck Road in Huntersville.

Lake Norman truly has something for everyone. Surrounding the lake’s winding 520 miles of shoreline are many unique and vibrant towns spanning four counties. Due to its proximity to Charlotte, the international airport, easy access to major interstates and only a short drive to the beautiful North Carolina mountains and breathtaking Carolina beaches, it’s no wonder why real estate at the lake is in great demand.
The Lake Norman real estate market had two “boom” years following the COVID-19 pandemic, with sales still above those in the pre-pandemic market. This heightened demand has impacted available inventory of new and existing homes for those seeking to relocate. However, although homes for sale may seem scarce, homes are out there, and finding your new home is possible with an experienced advisor on your side.
Since homes that come onto the market often sell very quickly, a little preparation is important so you’ll be ready when your dream home pops up. First, find an experienced broker knowledgeable about the Lake Norman area. Your broker will explain important N.C. real estate rules such as buyer agency, due diligence fees and the contract process. Next, ask your broker for local lender recommendations and proceed with becoming prequalified. With a prequalification letter in hand, your future offer becomes much more appealing to a seller when they see that your financing is pre-approved.
Keep in mind, sellers may consider factors other than price when countering an offer. A good buyer’s agent will learn what the seller is looking for and will advise you on preparing a winning offer. Maybe the seller needs to stay in the property after closing or maybe the seller prefers a quick closing date. Regardless of the reason, it’s very important to know the seller’s motivations before making your offer.
Share your new home wishlist with your broker and request details on recent sales reflective of your price range and wishlist. Having this understanding before getting started will help you quickly determine if it’s “the one” when your broker sends you future home opportunities. If your dream home is on the open market, most likely it will not be available for long, which is why understanding the specific market details are so important before getting started.
“Quiet listings” are growing in popularity and appealing to many sellers who do not want to publicly market their property. As a buyer, the only way to access quiet listings is to work with an experienced broker who has the connections
to help you find what you’re looking for. The good news for buyers is that this type of listing offers flexibility for buyers, too, and may be less likely to result in a high-stakes bidding war between buyers.
Lastly, newcomers should beware of the many various rules and regulations which vary widely between towns and counties, and also impact waterfront properties. Your experienced Lake Norman broker can guide you to ensure you don’t purchase a property without knowing potential restrictions.
This incredible region welcomes newcomers from around the world to call Lake Norman home. Whether your desire is a rural oasis, a vibrant historic town or anything in between, your realty dreams can become reality at Lake Norman.

Looking for the perfect place to call home? Look no further than the Lake Norman region.
Lake Norman is the largest manmade lake in North Carolina, created in the early 1960s. While there is a census-designated place called Lake Norman of Catawba in Catawba County, most who call themselves “Lake Norman” residents actually live in Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville and Mooresville.
With a wide variety of communities, property types and price points, the expansive Lake Norman region offers the beauty and amenities of a resort community, the quality of life of a small town and the convenience and benefits of a major metropolitan region.
“As people continue to flock to the lifestyle, weather and cost of living that Charlotte provides, home buyers will look to the surrounding areas,” says Allen Tate Realtor Christina Stone.
“Lake Norman offers a wide range of recreational activities such as boating, fishing and water sports,” Stone says. “The surrounding area is known for its charming neighborhoods and communities, making it an attractive destination for homebuyers. With its proximity to uptown Charlotte, residents of Lake Norman can enjoy the vibrant city life while still having access to the peacefulness and natural beauty of the lake.”
The Lake Norman region is widely acclaimed for its luxury
Photo by Michael Blevins/MB Productions THE SUNSET VIEW FROM A CUSTOM WATERFRONT HOME ON LAKE NORMAN.waterfront homes, with single-family homes that range from $500,000 for a three-bedroom cottage on the north side of the lake in Terrell, to a $22 million private island estate in Huntersville. Waterfront townhomes and condominiums are priced from $300,000 to $1.5 million.
“Lake Norman is much more affordable than people may think,” says Allen Tate Realtor Anita Sabates, who has sold homes in the region for more than 30 years.
Homes near Lake Norman have seen significant appreciation in recent years. As of June 2023, the average sales price of all homes in the region was $761,417, compared to $452,744 in the Charlotte metro market. There were 508 properties for sale in the Lake Norman area that month, with an average of 40 days on the market.
Neighborhoods with lake access, boat launch and deeded or leased boat slips can be found with homes starting in the $400Ks.
If you’re looking for some green to complement blue water, neighborhoods like River Run, The Peninsula, NorthStone Club, The Point and Trump National offer upscale country club and golf course communities.
Mixed-use neighborhoods like Birkdale Village in Huntersville offer the best of live, work and play, with other communities in the planning stages. Corporate homes, long and short-term rental properties, and apartments are also available in the Lake Norman region.
“Buyers desire (and will pay top dollar for) homes in pristine, updated condition,” says Angela Standish, branch leader, Allen Tate Realtors Lake Norman. “Updated homes that are priced
at fair market values sell quickly and often command multiple offers.”
While inventory remains a challenge, Sabates says that she has recently seen an uptick in interest from homeowners looking to sell. This should help ease the supply issue that has driven prices up in recent years, she said.
New construction is also helping fill the demand.
“Many buyers are looking for new construction here because they want the latest bells and whistles, and builders are trying to keep up,” says Lind Goodman, president, BSI Builder Services. “We’re starting to see some development a little further out, in areas like Sherrills Ford that were once considered remote. While build times are a little longer than pre-COVID, area builders are offering some closing cost incentives.”
“The proximity to airports, North Carolina mountains and beaches, and Charlotte’s expansive cultural sites and entertainment venues makes Lake Norman’s location simply perfect. The fabulous sunsets are awesome as well,” Sabates says.
“No one who moves to Lake Norman ever wants to leave,” she says. “And once one family member lands here, so many of their family members follow them from various states.”

The Lake Norman area is primed for new business development, with more than six million square feet of speculative space in planning, review or under construction. Below are a few speculative development projects of note as of June 2023:
• Northcross Commerce Center completed all buildings: two are available.
Bryton Commerce Center has six buildings totaling more than 900,000 square feet.
• Two new Class A industrial buildings are under construction on Bailey Road in Cornelius. One building will
be 85,000 square feet, the other 110,250 square feet.
• SEG Systems will move to 225,000 square feet in the Interchange Logistics Center, a Class A industrial facility on Hambright Road in The Park in Huntersville. The $30 million relocation and expansion will create 260 jobs.
• Atom Power, a leading manufacturer of EV charging stations, is expanding its presence in the Town of Huntersville and Mecklenburg County with a $4.2 million capital investment and 205 new jobs.
This activity comes after years of work by Ryan McDaniels, head of Lake Norman Economic Development (LNED),
NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR, ROY COOPER VISITED HUNTERSVILLE TO ANNOUNCE ATOM POWER, A LEADING MANUFACTURER OF EV CHARGING STATIONS, IS EXPANDING ITS PRESENCE IN THE TOWN OF HUNTERSVILLE AND MECKLENBURG COUNTY WITH A $4.2 MILLION CAPITAL INVESTMENT AND 205 NEW JOBS.
and other local leaders to attempt to spur development. McDaniels’ focus now shifts from eagerly pursuing development to finding tenants to occupy the high volume of space that is coming to our region. His team at LNED has done so by adding more virtual tours of sites.
“It is exciting for us because I know we’ve missed deals because we just simply haven’t had the right product, and now we’re going to have that option,” McDaniels says. North Mecklenburg is in a competitive position for international projects due to being near Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The airport is the sixth busiest
airport in the world and is home to the second largest hub for American Airlines. It is also an international gateway with numerous non-stop services to 175 cities including London, Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid and Munich.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport also has a 200-acre, strategically positioned intermodal facility, creating a hub linking air, rail and truck to east coast seaports. The facility, which is capable of 200,000 lifts annually, transfers containers between trucks and trains, and connects to the intermodal facilities at the Port of Charleston.

Spacious and welcoming, abuzz with participants and volunteers, FeedNC’s brand-new facility on Charlotte Highway in Mooresville is already in use and gearing up for its grand opening. Once the doors open, anyone — yes, anyone — is welcome to stop by and have a made-to-order meal free of charge, while getting to know other members of the Lake Norman community.
The kitchen at Donoghue’s Open Door is already in operation, where breakfast and lunch are served and nutritious dishes: Gorgonzola & Pear Salad, Donoghue’s Shepherd Pie, the Mediterranean Bowl, the Tarheel Chicken Sandwich. Meals are prepared and served by volunteers including students in the organization’s Culinary Workforce Development program. It’s just one of many projects underway supporting FeedNC’s overall goal of “creating connections to food, education and resources as a catalyst for change.”
Lara Ingram, Executive Director, social worker and selfdescribed “cat-herder, at times,” is in the thick of the process, getting orders out and strategizing to make the operation work optimally.
Until last March, the 32-year-old organization had been located on South Broad Street in Mooresville and was only about one-third the size. It took “reinventing space several times a day,” says Ingram, but they managed to provide all the routine services including hot meals, groceries and workforce training programs.
Here, the programs now have permanent classrooms and a teaching kitchen, and there’s precious warehouse space. In the past, a truckload of dry goods offered for donation might have been refused for lack of storage, but “we’ll never have to say no again,” Ingram says.
Over in Grassroots Grocery, people are shopping by appointment. It looks much like any commercial grocery store, with canned goods, fresh produce, bread and a refrigerated section, except that there are volunteers donating their time instead of hired cashiers.
“The one thing there never seems to be enough of is fresh produce; it’s expensive, and harder to keep,” Ingram says. To help fill that need, Mimi’s Garden, a one one-acre produce site is in the works, to supply both Donoghue’s and Grassroots with fresh, nutritious food.
How is all this possible? Through donations, including those received in partnership with Second Harvest Foodbank, and by volunteers. “People’s lives are changed here every day,” Ingram says.
So far in 2023, more than 600 individuals have volunteered, many of them volunteering multiple times each week, with additional volunteer applications pending. It’s a selfless way to give back to the community.
To donate, volunteer or apply for services, visit www.feednc. org, or call 704.660.9010. FeedNC’s new facility is at 2456 Charlotte Highway, Mooresville.
There’s nothing better than flavorful food prepared with fresh ingredients from local farms. Lake Norman has plenty of places to find succulent fruits and vegetables, plus beautiful bouquets and homemade jams, jellies, cheeses and more.

Places of worship are an important part of our community, and many have taken root throughout the towns over the years.
Most of the early European settlers here in the 1770s were Scots-Irish or Scottish. History has it that one of the oldest churches in the Lake Norman area began when a group of Christians gathered on the bank of a creek under a bank of trees they called “Ramah Grove.” While the first log structure housing the church was constructed in 1783, the current sanctuary used for Ramah Grove Presbyterian Church was built in 1881. The church still stands today. Hopewell Presbyterian Church off Beatties Ford Road in Huntersville also has a rich history, having been officially founded in 1762. Davidson College Presbyterian Church was founded in 1837.
In Cornelius, Bethel Presbyterian Church was founded in 1828 and still
flourishes in the lakeside town as part of the Presbyterian movement called ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians. The community is also home to Grace Covenant Church, which started out as Cornelius Tabernacle under the leadership of Dr. S.K. and Emily Clanton in 1937. Grace Covenant now serves approximately a few thousand parishioners through services at three different campuses; 17301 Statesville Road, Cornelius, 531 N. Greenbriar Road, Statesville and 296 N. Hwy. 16 in Denver.
Serving both the Davidson and Huntersville communities, Lake Forest Church is a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination.
Freedom to worship all types of denominations is alive and well here. You’ll also find The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Davidson is home to the Davidson Friends Meeting
House for the Quaker Community and Temple Kol Tikvah, serving the Jewish community.
To help accommodate the growth brought on by the construction of Lake Norman, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mooresville raised funds for the building that still stands today from the early 1960s. You’ll find St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville and St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville.
For those who prefer a more contemporary form of worship, there’s also a variety of non-denominational churches spread throughout the area, such as Elevation Church, Journey Church, Newsong Church, LIFE Fellowship Church and many others.
These houses of worship are only the beginning of a very long list – because no matter where you prefer to seek out spiritual comfort, you’re sure to find what your soul desires in the towns of Lake Norman.
Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate lakeside wedding or an epic indoor bash, Lake Norman offers so many beautiful venues that will make your vision a reality. Want to say “I do” by the water’s edge, at a country club or at a rural location? No worries – it’s all here and Visit Lake Norman (VLN) is here to help. Choosing a venue is one of the most important decisions you will have to make, so let VLN help you explore the best options suited to your style, budget and guest count.

Some of the things that attract so many people to the Lake Norman area are the mild temperatures, four seasons and abundance of recreational activities. Here are a few suggestions for outdoor recreation.
At the northern most point in Troutman, there’s Lake Norman State Park, an ideal place to enjoy the area’s natural beauty and go running or mountain biking. The 1,328-acre park includes 13 miles of shoreline along the northeastern shore of Lake Norman. There is a 125-yard beach and public swimming area, which is supervised
by lifeguards seasonally, as well as a concession stand, showers, restrooms and changing stalls.
Lake Norman has a great public park system that will never leave you bored. In Cornelius, Ramsey Creek Park is a 43acre waterfront park with boat-launching areas, docks, a fishing pier and a public swimming beach. Visitors can rent large “funbrellas” to utilize on the waterfront picnic area. There are also picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, a three-acre dog park, playground and nature trails. Jetton Park in Cornelius is a 104-acre park that has a
beach area, wooden gazebos, a formal garden and a playground. There are also eight tennis courts and paved walking and biking trails, most of which wind through nicely shaded wooded areas. For a small fee, visitors can rent waterside picnic decks equipped with a grill and a table.
For those who love physical activity . . . Each town has a robust parks and recreation department that offers affordable classes and excursions, with many of them being outdoors. Many of the breweries also offer running and cycling clubs, yoga, paddling and other activities where you can socialize while getting in a workout.

COMPILED BY TONY RICCIARDELLIPickleball resembles tennis in that it is played across a net, with racquet-like equipment and a ball. But that’s about where the similarities end. The “racquet” is more like an oversized ping-pong paddle (no strings attached), the large plastic ball will take you back to your days of playing wiffle ball with friends in the backyard and the scoring is more like a volleyball game than the numerical gymnastics required to score a tennis match.
A tennis match must be arranged in advance, can take a couple of hours (especially in a particularly heated contest) and can be far more physically grueling. But a Pickleball game is played
only to 11 points and is usually finished in about 20 minutes.
In open play, there will likely be music playing while folks socialize off-court as they wait their turn to rotate on to any court, regardless of individual abilities or level of play. The game is more than just a sport — it’s a total social experience that’s well suited for a variety of ability levels and age ranges, and that’s really the broad attraction of Pickleball — anyone can play it, regardless of fitness level, age or skill. There are several ongoing pickleball venues in the Lake Norman region. For more information visit www. lknpickleballassociation.com.
The new Mooresville Skatepark opened late in 2022 with much anticipation. The $2.8 million project, which holds the outright distinction of being the largest skatepark in the Southeast, includes two pool-style bowls, a quarter pipe, street plaza with handrails and a snake run suitable for beginners just learning to master banked surfaces. There are restrooms and a viewing area as well.
The skatepark meets all the requirements for world-class competition, where Skateboarders, BMX bikers, scooter enthusiasts and inline skaters can come to learn, improve skills, compete and have fun.
Lake Norman skatepark enthusiasts don’t have to travel far to experience a first-rate skatepark. On the flip side, the largest skateboard park in the Southeast will draw skateboarders from communities far and wide. The skatepark is open from sunrise to 10 p.m.

If you would prefer to have a simple ribbon cutting ceremony, you’ll have the opportunity to borrow the Chamber’s oversized scissors for the event.
You may also extend your ribbon cutting event by also having a mixer. The Chamber will help you publicize your ribbon cutting, announcing to our membership via our website event calendar and newsletter. Ambassadors and other Chamber staff will also be onsite for the occasion. Mixers are less formal, generally with food and drink, and can be scheduled at any time with a minimum of a fourweek notice.
A black tie-optional event, the Lake Norman Chamber Annual Gala & Awards banquet is an elegant night of celebration, during which the “changing of the guard” occurs as the outgoing Chamber Chairman hands over the reins to the incoming Chair.
