Kids say the darndest things! And Dr. Charles Roberts ought to know … he hears it all day long at his practice, Roberts Pediatric Dentistry in

Mooresville, and he couldn’t be happier about it!

“My mom taught Kindergarten,” Dr. Roberts says, “and

I always enjoyed interacting with her students. I knew I wanted to do something in dentistry, so during college I realized that pediatric dentistry would be a perfect fit for me. Where else can you wear clothes as comfortable as

PJ’s and entertain kids all day? To me, kids and teeth are special gifts, and I am the guy who knew early on that I wanted to be a pediatric dentist … I am so grateful.”

Dr. Roberts grew up in Hendersonville and attended

NC State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in zoology. He went on to attend the University of

North Carolina Dental School at Chapel Hill where he met his classmate, now wife, Kari, who is also a dentist.

After a two-year stint in Houston for his pediatric dental residency, Dr. Roberts returned to North Carolina and settled in Mooresville where he and Kari opened their dental office in 2001.

“We both wanted to live in North Carolina,” Dr. Roberts continues, “and Kari is from the land of 10,000 lakes (Minnesota), so we felt a desire to live on Lake Norman; this made moving to Mooresville an easy choice. We lived in Mooresville for 14 years until we moved to

Cornelius to get closer to the girls’ school. We have three girls: Ansley, 16, and twins Myla and Langley, 14.”

With a grateful attitude clearly evidenced by his smile,

Dr. Roberts adds: “I take my challenges both big and small to God … Philippians 4:13 — I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I had a stroke in 2008, and I was fortunate that I suffered no permanent negative health effects, but due to this health event, we changed our schedules to balance work and family in a healthier manner. It was truly a life-changing event for our family, but it strengthened us.”

We are so very blessed to be celebrating our 20th year of being in business this summer, and having Kari as my life partner and business partner is simply the best! We had to learn how to balance work/home in the early years, but we were given some great advice that really resonated with us: When you get home from your day of work, take your work hat off and hang it on a tree outside. It really helped us separate work and home life. I try to keep my focus on loving God and loving people … If I can do those two things in my life, I think it covers about everything.” w
