WHAT EVOKES HASHEM’S WRATH AND HOW CAN WE REMOVE IT?

Dear Jewish daughters. There is a major problem today which some of us may have vaguely heard about. You may have wondered, “Is it true, or not? If it is true, why are we not hearing more about it...?” The Torah reveals to us clearly what brings about the ‫ חרון אף‬of Hashem: We say this in Krias Shma every day, “,‫ועבדתם אלהים אחרים‬ ‫ – וחרה אף ד’ בכם‬The aveira of avodah zara evokes the wrath of Hashem.” (Devorim 11;17)

US, WOMEN AND GIRLS, TRANSGRESSING THE SERIOUS AVEIRA OF AVODAH ZARA?

Jewish women are pure and yearn to do what is correct. We may wonder, “Avodah zara? That is surely not an aveira that I am transgressing.” Unfortunately, it has been confirmed through documented evidence that the majority of all human hair sheitels and hair extensions come from Indian temples.

Thousands of Pilgrims outside the Tirupati Temple (on what they consider the “Holy” Mountain) where the tonsuring and all other forms of worships are performed.

In the zchus of correcting our ways, may Hashem stop this mageifa and many other tzaros in Klal Yisroel.

Every day, thousands of ponytails from the temples are laid out to dry. Mountains of temple hair are sorted daily according to length and quality.

India is the second-largest country in the world, with 1.3 billion people (which makes up almost a sixth of the world’s population). Most of the population are religious Hindus. They are required to sacrifice their hair to their idols at least once a lifetime, with many doing it repeatedly. Every day, in the biggest temple alone (the Tirumala Temple), approximately 35,000 Indians (rich and poor alike) “tonsure”- shave/cut – their hair as a sacrifice to their idol – totaling twelve million people annually! This religious tonsuring ritual is practiced in the numerous temples located throughout India and in the many Hindu temples scattered worldwide. The hair that is cut off is considered takrovos avodah zara – a korban for avodah zara which is forbidden to be used. One

who wears a sheitel made from such hair transgresses two laavim d’oraissa: ‫“ולא תביא‬ ‫תועבה אל ביתך” (דברים ז) & “ולא ידבק בידך‬ )‫ יח‬:‫( מאומה מן החרם” (דברים יג‬see Rambam Perek 7, Halacha 2) Hair suppliers worldwide admit that most of the hair they buy originates from India. As one of the many hair importers, Mr. Vince Selva, testifies, “I am the owner of the Indo Asian Human Hair Int. Inc. in Inglewood, Calif., and IndoHair. Com. I have been in the industry for nearly two decades. People ask me – Where does the majority of hair for wigs and hair extensions come from today?

The only place in the world that has organized commercial quantities of hair is from India where approximately 617 million women ritually donate to the Hindu temple. It’s simple economics, supply and demand. Indian temples have a huge free supply of “sacrificed” hair, and the world has a huge demand. For wholesalers, it makes the most sense to buy where the supply is high and the price is reasonable. It is my professional opinion that 98% of the hair sold worldwide is originally sourced from Indian Temple hair. The Temples have become an extremely efficient source of hair. The Tirumala Temple is the richest Indian temple. Here, tens of thousands of people donate their hair. There are huge rooms where hundreds of pilgrims are shaved at the same time in a sort of assembly line. They want to make a sacrifice to God and will not take any money for it.”

WHICH POWERFUL MESSAGE CAN WE LEARN FROM THE NAME CORONA?

The virus that has caused so many tragedies is “corona” – a crown, since under a microscope the virus resembles a crown. The crown of a Bas Yisroel is the mitzvah of kisui rosh (head covering). This may be a clear message that we need to do teshuva and fix the crown of the Jewish woman. Our crown, our kisui rosh, has unknowingly become infected by avodah zara, and therefore may be causing infectious sicknesses. Only through properly understanding the details of the problem, can we fulfill the will of Hashem. In this way, we will remove Hashem’s fury and thus remove further illness from our midst. The Torah tells us this clearly in Parshas Ra’ai: ”‫ למען‬,‫ולא ידבק בידך מאומה מן החרם‬ ‫ – ישוב ד’ מחרון אפו ונתן לך רחמים ורחמך‬If you will not take from the cheirim (which refers to the laav of avodah zara), then Hashem will return His wrath and shower upon you abundant rachamim.” (Devarim 13, 18)

At that point, the Gedolei Poskei HaDor including HaGaon HaRav Elyashiv zt”l, HaGaon HaRav Nissin Karelitz zt”l, HaGaon HaRav Wosner zt”l, HaGaon HaRav Meir Bransdorfer zt”l, HaGaon HaRav Moshe Halberstam zt”l, y”l HaGaon HaRav Moshe Sternbuch shlit”a, and the Gaavad of Yerushalayim – HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss shlit”a issued the historic ruling that all sheitels containing hair from India are forbidden. After this psak was publicized, many hair companies claimed that their hair was coming from other sources (e.g. European, Brazilian, etc.). It seemed like the matter was resolved, until some sheitel machers started noticing deception in the hair market. They realized that the labels identifying the origin of the sheitels was generally false. Recently, Mr. Amir Dromi went back to India to investigate the goings-on in the temple. This time, he recorded what he witnessed on videotape. Mr. Dromi came back with the exact same information as Dayan Dunner that the hair is clearly a sacrifice. The hair industry is controlled by the illegal networks of the Mafia. Thus, the dealers do not allow anyone - not even the mashgichim of the different hechsheirim - to see the cutting of the hair. As the secretary of the wig hechsher admitted: “They murdered a hair supplier (from Bnei Brak) when he went to Russia to buy hair!!! The whole issue of hair in the world - it’s basically all “mafia” controlled. It’s really all the underworld!!” The Mafia merchants claim that the hair is coming from the poor villagers who offer their hair in exchange for money. Yet, they do not allow anyone to see the cutting. Why is this so? Because there is no regular cutting, as the majority of

the hair is coming from Indian temples. The merchants conceal the origin of the hair in order to sell it for greater profits. These merchants give various excuses why the buyers cannot get a glimpse of the cutting of the hair. Thus, the mashgichim, hair suppliers, and sheitel machers are forced to buy ready cut hair from these criminals and are not given permission to see the cutting of the hair. As one Rav, HaRav Katz, founder of the Bnei Brak wig hechsher, exclaimed: “Anyone who writes that there has to be hashgachah from the time the hair is taken off from the head of the person, (which is called “‫)”בשעת קצירה‬, is talking stupidity and nonsense! Because it’s not possible to do such a thing!” The mashgiach of the wig hechsher, HaRav Schlesinger also agrees that it’s not possible to see the hair cutting: “There is no way in the world to supervise from the time of cutting! No way in the world! Also the hair suppliers almost never see the hair cutting. The only place to see the cutting of the hair is in the temples in India.”

Yes, there was some individuals who have thought that the only reason the Hindus tonsure their hair was in order to shed their ego. The worshippers fully believe that their hair offerings somehow ‘reach’ and are accepted IDOL by the idol, who takes much pleasure from this IDOL extraordinary sacrifice. They believe that the idol appreciates this offering more than any other offering since it is much more difficult for a woman to sacrifice her hair - which is a part of herself - rather than offering an obtainable object or fruit. Anyone who looks up the word, “mutikanikkai” in the Tamil/English dictionary will find the following definition which confirms the above-mentioned information: “an offering of the hair of the head shaved off and presented to an idol in fulfillment of a vow.” Since they consider the tonsuring is a sacred act, even the place where the hair is cut (known as the kalyanakatta complex) is considered holy. Indeed, a secular author depicts her experience visiting the Indian Temple: “A signed board (in the tonsuring hall) reads: ‘The tonsuring hall is a sacred place where devotees offer their tonsuring with utmost devotion to Lord_ ‘” (“Entanglement” pg. 82) Another important reason that the Hindus offer their hair to their idol is because of a famous legend that appears in many religious books. This is a common misconception. There is a myth that tonsuring is done because human hair is considered to be ‘impure’ according to the Hindu religion, and the devotees therefore remove this impurity before entering the temple. This myth is largely based on a different Hindu custom called ‘Mundan’, which is mandatory, requiring every child to be completely shaved in the first or third year after birth. Even though the mundan custom is also considered by many as an ‘offering’, the more popular reason given is based on their belief that all the ‘sins’ that the child has done in its previous life remain attached to the edges of its hair from birth. One of the areas which many of us can do teshuva on is correcting the sin of takrovos avodah zara. We can all purify our homes through getting rid of all tumah and impurity.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE RID OURSELVES FROM AVODAH ZARA?

The Torah tells us explicitly that Hashem will remove His fury. As the passuk tells us clearly after the laav of avodah zara: “Hashem will return His wrath and shower upon you abundant rachamim.” (Devarim 13, 18)

POWERFUL STATEMENT FROM THE POSEK HADOR – HOW CAN WE REMOVE A KITRUG? In the year 2004, Hagaon HaRav Wosner zt”l ruled that one should not make use of sheitals containing Indian hair, as per his words: ‫“עלינו‬ ‫לבקש ולהזהיר בנות ישראל‬ ‫ – שלא להשתמש בזה‬It is our obligation to request and warn Bnos YIsroel that they should not make use of this.” He then added, ‫“ומי יודע אם גם‬ ‫ – זה גורם להרבה מקרים גופיים ונפשיים בבתי ישראל‬Who knows if this is what is causing the many physical and emotional tzaros in Jewish homes.” HaGaon HaRav Wosner zt”l relaying the dangerous consequences of having avoda zara in one’s home.

After many women were inspired to get rid of their avodah zara sheitels, the Posek HaDor happily relayed to his grandson, “Now that the women have removed their sheitels, a great kitrug was removed from Klal Yisroel.” (See Sefer Chatzar HaLevi pg, 442). We see from here that the sin of avodah zara causes untold sufferings, and that correcting this sin brings about yeshuos. We can do this again, today. Let us remove the current kitrug from our midst!

THIS AVEIRA IS WORSE THAN EATING TREIFUS

A woman doesn’t realize that wearing a wig that is takrovos avodah zara is worse than eating treif. Why is this so? Firstly, the aveira of avodah zara is more severe than the aveira of treifus. MY SHEITEL IS LABELED AS “100% EUROPEAN HAIR”, WHY IS THIS STILL A PROBLEM? Even if the wig is labeled “100% European hair”, “100% Brazilian hair…” – it is still originally coming from Hindu Temples.

Some women claim, “I trust my sheitel macher. She told me that the hair is definitely European.” It is important to note that many hair suppliers and sheitel machers consider themselves experts in identifying the hair’s true origin, especially those with over 2030 years of experience. This was proven impossible, as can be seen by the following tests:

own words, “No one got 100%”! This proves that if one did not personally see the actual cutting of the ponytail from the person, one can never be certain where the hair came from or if it was mixed with other (forbidden) hair.

WHAT IF MY SHEITEL MACHER REASSURES ME THAT SHE HAS A HECHSHER?

Some sheitel machers rely on mashgichim who claim that they are experts at identifying if the hair is coming from India or from a different country. Recently, there was an important meeting in Boro Park with prominent rabbanim from New York. They met with a mashgiach who travels to various countries (such as Brazil, China, Ukraine…) and determines if the hair comes from India. The rabbanim asked him, “How can you possibly be certain that the hair does not come from India? It became evident to the rabbanim that this technique of smelling the hair is completely inaccurate. In truth, even before the hair leaves India, it is washed and cleansed. When the hair reaches the other countries, the local mafia rings use different advanced methods and solutions to neutralize the smell of the hair. In fact, all hair that is sold on the hair market today in these countries have already been washed, cleaned, sorted, and treated to look like the local hair, which completely disguises the true origin of the hair. Thus, it is clear why when the mashgiach smells the hairs from all the different countries, they no longer have the smell or look of Indian hair. Unfortunately, this has been the basis for determining if the sheitels are indeed coming from India. As a result, women have been unknowingly transgressing the severe aveirah of avodah zara even when they have been so careful to avoid it. The rabbanim concluded at this meeting, that this method is unreliable.

MY SHEITEL MACHER CLAIMS THAT SHE GETS THE HAIR DIRECTLY FROM BRAZIL AND EUROPE IN THE FORM OF RAW NATURAL PONYTAILS WHICH ARE DIRTY AND FULL OF NITS. SHE IS THEREFORE CONVINCED THAT THE PONYTAILS ARE LOCAL HAIR (FROM BRAZIL/EUROPE) AND ARE DEFINITELY NOT FROM INDIA, SINCE HAIR FROM THE INDIAN TEMPLES GO THROUGH WASHING AND PROCESSING. CAN I RELY ON THIS CLAIM?

In the temple, the hair is first tied into a ponytail before it is cut. It is then sold in the form of a ponytail to countries worldwide.

Indian ponytails ready for sale. The origin of the hair is labeled according to the color of the rubberband. The Indian rubber-bands are frequently exchanged to hide the true origin of the hair.

This delicate enhancement treatment does not get rid of the nits.4 Therefore, the sheitel machers need to pick them out themselves. (Additionally, the ponytails lay around for a long time before being sold. Therefore, they tend to get musty. For this reason they give the impression of being raw and unwashed.) Some sheitel machers will claim, “The pony I bought came with a specific color rubber band which indicates that the hair is coming from a different country e.g. Brazil. It is definitely not from India.” The sheitel machers are not aware that the pony came originally from the Indian temple. It was then exported to Brazil where the mafia hair dealers carefully exchange the rubber bands to match the distinctive color of Brazil.5

3 This high quality hair is referred to as remy hair. The shorter hairs and any hair that wasn't gathered into a ponytail, is considered poorer quality non-remy hair. Most of these hairs get sent to China for aggressive acid processing which removes the nits and lice. These hairs are used for lesser quality wigs. 4 After the enhancement treatments, the hair is sent to China to be sewn - one hair at a time onto the cap of the wig. This tedious hand labor isn't done on the factory premises, but rather thousands of Chinese women sew it in their own home. (Note: Many sheitel machers reported that they sent hair to these Chinese women to be sewn into wigs, and the wigs were sent back with different hair. In truth, all the current hashgachos on sheitels have no supervision whatsoever on this part of the manufacturing process, since it is not possible to supervise every Chinese woman in her own home.) 5 There are sheitel machers who claim, “I can tell the origin of the hair by smelling it, since each country has a distinctive smell. This sheitel has the smell of Europe, Brazil….. It is definitely not

THE VIRUS SPECIFICALLY STARTED IN CHINA. WHAT MESSAGE CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS?

China is the hometown of most of the factories which manufacture the wigs. The wigs are then exported to all the countries which sell the sheitels to Bnos Yisroel. The Chinese are aware that Jewish women may not make use of hair from Indian temples. Therefore, they lie to customers about the origin of the hair, when they understand that the caller is Jewish. Additionally, they falsify labels, claiming that the hair originates from different countries. As Mr. Vince Selva, a hair importer in Los Angeles revealed: There are no regulations whatsoever in the hair industry. Raw and processed hair is a billion-dollar industry saturated with scams and corruption. Most wigs are processed in China. The Chinese manufacturers operate within a market which lacks oversight or regulation. They have been known to provide false labeling in their products, and hair switching. China buys an enormous amount of Indian temple hair. A customer sending their own virgin hair to China, should highly suspect that the virgin hair may be mixed with unidentified (Indian temple hair). There is no guarantee that hair will not be tampered with… Many askanim involved in disclosing the deception in the Chinese factories were moved by the middah kneged middah that the virus started in China.

Huge Chinese factories manufacture wigs for the hechsher 365 days a year. The mashgiach only comes in 3 times a year to check the goings-on in the factory. The hair is sewn onto the skin cap – one hair at a time – in the homes of thousands of Chinese women. This part of the wig manufacturing process has no hashgacha.

Each country uses different washing and enhancement solutions. Thus, the sheitel macher is actually smelling the distinctive smell of the solutions used in that country and is mistakenly assuming that the hair originates from there. Other sheitel machers claim, “I can feel that the hair is not processed since the cuticles (miniscule hairs that cover each strand of hair) are still intact. This is a sign that the hair did not go through acid processing. Thus, I know that this hair is definitely not from India, since Indian hair can only be used after it’s processed.” The sheitel machers are unaware that most hair comes from Indian temples. There are new advanced enhancement treatments used in countries like Brazil and Europe that process the Indian hair to make it look like the local hair. This hand treatment is a delicate process which leaves the cuticles in the hair intact (making the hair look raw and unprocessed). Thus, the sheitel macher mistakenly assumes that the hair is not from India since the hair looks and feels like it is not processed. WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT TAKROVOS AVODAH ZARA IN MY HUMAN HAIR SHEITEL, WHEN MY RAV SAID THAT IT IS NOT A PROBLEM?

Gedolei Yisroel have stated clearly that a person cannot claim, “The rav who gave me a heter is responsible, and I will not be held accountable.” This is a mistake. As the Rambam teaches, ‘Even though a person follows his rav, the one who asks the question is held responsible.’”6 The Rambam rules that if a person becomes aware that something is forbidden, it is assur for him to carry out that deed, until he brings all the relevant information to the Sanhedrin and they issue a pertinent psak. HaRav Avigdor Miller zt”l cautioned that if we know that something is assur, we will need to give a din v’chesbon if we are oiver - even if our rav did not yet pasken that it is forbidden. Indeed, when we have a sheila if something is permissible in any specialized area of Yiddishkeit which requires updated information, we will desist from performing that action – until we ask a Talmid Chacham who specializes and is knowledgeable in that area. For example, if we find out that a certain fruit is infested with worms, we will not eat that fruit until we ask a Talmid Chacham who is an expert in bug checking and thoroughly researched this information. The same applies to a sheila in shatnez. If we find out that a garment might contain shatnez, we will desist from wearing it until we give it to a qualified shatnez lab to be checked.

The head of the Ezer Mitzion Organization, R’ Chananya Tzolak asked permission to speak last year at the hesped of the levaya of the granddaughter of HaGaon R’ Chaim Greinman zt”l - who passed away from the machala, leaving behind nine young orphans. He wept bitterly, as he cried out: “There are so many sick people, especially those who are suffering from the terrible machala. It is literally a mageifa – a terrible epidemic. Unfortunately, this past year alone, there were over 30,000 new cases of sick people. I don’t know what to do…. To whom should I go to be mechazeik first? With which children should I sit? We have to do something! Pardon me that I am speaking this way – but it hurts!”8 See personal hair-raising story below.

Within those weeks I was speaking with a friend whose daughter was being treated in Ein Kerem hospital. I shared with her how shocked I was that there were no Jewish patients in the oncology ward in the Tel Hashomer Hospital. And guess what she responded? ‘I don’t believe this! The same thing is going on here in Ein Kerem Hospital. There are no Jewish patients in the ward who are suffering from the machala. (When the hechsher came out, the women went back to wearing the sheitels. Unfortunately, since then the wards became even fuller than before.)” Mrs. Posen ends off her account with a powerful plea: “Hakadosh Baruch Hu was speaking to us 16 years ago and telling us that we created a nachas ruach for Him by getting rid of the sheitels and that is why He was shining His face upon us. Hashem yearns to help and cure us, much more than we want a yeshuah for ourselves. We opened up a way for Hashem to shower us with goodness in the past. And yes, we can awaken this again by continuing in this path. We can continue to arouse Hashem’s rachamim.”

‫געטראפן דעם יונגן אפיציר אייכמאן א פאר מאל‪,‬‬ ‫בשעת ער האט פארטריבן די אידן פון דייטשלאנד‬ ‫און עסטרייך – האט אים אידענטיפיצירט אויף‬ ‫הונדערט פראצענט‪ .2 .‬מען האט געלאזט וויסן פאר‬ ‫פריץ באוער‪ ,‬וועלכער האט צוגעשטעלט די אריגינעלע‬ ‫אינפארמאציע וואו אייכמאן געפינט זיך‪ ,‬אז מען‬ ‫האט געכאפט דעם פארברעכער‪ .3 .‬די וועלכע זענען‬ ‫פארבליבן אין ארגענטינע‪ ,‬האבן אלעס צוריקגעגעבן‬ ‫און צוריקגעשטעלט אין פלאץ‪ ,‬און פארלאזט דאס‬ ‫לאנד‪.‬‬ ‫מאי ‪ 23‬האט מען געלאזט וויסן פאר דער וועלט‬ ‫אז “מען האט געכאפט איינער פון די גרעסטע‬ ‫מאסן‪-‬מערדער פון אידישן פאלק‪ ,‬אדאלף אייכמאן‪,‬‬ ‫וועלכער איז פאראנטווארטליך – צוזאמען מיט די‬ ‫אנדערע נאצי הויפטן – אויפן מאסן‪-‬מארד פון זעקס‬ ‫מיליאן אידן אין אייראפע‪ .‬אדאלף אייכמאן געפינט‬ ‫זיך אין טורמע און וועט אין די נאנטע טעג געברענגט‬ ‫ווערן צום געריכט‪”.‬‬ ‫די נייעס האט אויפגעריסן ווי א באמבע‪ ,‬און זיך‬ ‫צושפרייט ווי א ווילדער פייער צו די אומגליקליכע‬ ‫איבערלעבער פון די מארד‪-‬פאבריקן‪ ,‬וועלכע האבן‬ ‫פארלוירן זייערע נאנטע און טייערע ביי דער קריג‪.‬‬ ‫די קעפלעך אין די צייטונגען פון דער וועלט‪-‬פרעסע‬ ‫האבן גערודערט מיט דער סענזאציאנאלער נייעס‪,‬‬ ‫און מיליאנען ווערטער זענען געדרוקט געווארן‬ ‫דערויף אין אלע שפראכן‪.‬‬ ‫דער שטאלצער יונגער נאצי‪ ,‬וועלכער האט מיט א‬ ‫שרעקליכער פאנאטישקייט נאכגעפאלגט יעדן איד‬ ‫אין אייראפע‪ ,‬און געלעבט א וואולגארן לעבן אויפן‬ ‫חשבון פון זיינע מיליאנען קרבנות‪ ,‬האט ענדגילטיג‬ ‫געפונען זיין פארדינטן סוף‪.‬‬

‫אייכמאן איז טאקע געווען גאנץ א גוטער מבין‬ ‫אויף פלי‪-‬רייזעס‪ .‬אין די מלחמה‪-‬יארן האט ער‬ ‫דורכגעאקערט אייראפע אין דער לענג און ברייט‪,‬‬ ‫פארנדיג אויף באנען‪ ,‬אויטאס און פליגערס‪ ,‬כדי צו‬ ‫קאמאנדירן איבער דער בלוטיגער אקציע להשמיד‬ ‫ולהרוג ולאבד את כל היהודים און זיין קרענקליכע‬ ‫עקשנות האט ער נישט ערלויבט ארויסצולאזן אפילו‬ ‫איינצלנע אידן‪.‬‬ ‫דער פליגער איז געפארן גאר הויעך‪ ,‬אז עס זאל‬ ‫ניצן ווייניגער ברענשטאף‪ .‬נאך דרייצן שעה איז מען‬ ‫אנגעקומען אין דאקאר‪ ,‬אפריקע‪ .‬יעדער איז געבליבן‬ ‫אויפן פליגער‪ .‬אייכמאן איז נישט אנטשלאפן‬ ‫געווארן‪ .‬ער איז געזעסן שטיל ווען די צוויי פראנצויזן‬ ‫זענען דורכגעגאנגען איבערצוקוקן דעם פליגער‪ .‬נאך‬ ‫א שעה האט זיך דער פליגער געהויבן אויפן וועג קיין‬ ‫תל‪-‬אביב‪.‬‬ ‫ווען דער פליגער האט דארט געלאנדעט – נאך‬ ‫עלף‪-‬און‪-‬א‪-‬האלב שעה – איז אייכמאן געווען‬ ‫בלאס‪ .‬ער האט דערשפירט אלעס וואס קומט פאר‬ ‫ארום אים‪ ,‬טראצדעם וואס זיינע אויגן זענען געווען‬ ‫באדעקט‪ .‬זיין קערפער האט געטרייסלט‪.‬‬ ‫אייכמאן איז איבערגעגעבן געווארן אין די הענט‬ ‫פון דער פאליציי‪ ,‬נישט פאר מען האט זיכער געמאכט‬ ‫אז ער האט די מאקסימאלע שמירה און קען זיך נישט‬ ‫נעמען דאס לעבן‪ .‬מען האט געברענגט א ריכטער‬ ‫ארויסצוגעבן אויף אים אן ארעסט‪-‬באפעל‪ .‬ווען דער‬ ‫ריכטער האט אים געבעטן ער זאל זיך אידענטיפיצירן‪,‬‬ ‫האט ער געענטפערט מיט א בלאסן געזיכט‪:‬‬ ‫“איך בין אדאלף אייכמאן‪”.‬‬ ‫איידער מען האט דערציילט פאר דער וועלט אז‬ ‫מען האט געכאפט דעם מאסן‪-‬מערדער האט מען זיך‬ ‫באווארנט מיט עטליכע וויכטיגע שריט‪ .1 :‬א דייטשער‬ ‫איד – וועלכער האט עטליכע יאר פאר דער קריג‬ ‫עפילאג‪:‬‬

‫וואס האט ווייטער פאסירט מיט אדאלף אייכמאן?‬

‫עלף מאנאטן נאך זיין פארכאפונג אין ארגענטינע האט זיך דאס געריכט געעפנט‪ .‬הונדערטער זשורנאליסטן פון דער איבער גארער וועלט האבן‬ ‫אנגעפילט דעם זאל צו דעקן דעם משפט פאר מיליאנען מענטשן‪ .‬דערביי זענען אויך אנוועזנד געווען איבערלעבער פון אייכמאנ’ס בייזוויליגע‬ ‫פלענער – אידישע פליטי חרב פון אלע שיכטן און קרייזן‪ .‬דורכאויס דעם משפט איז דער באשולדיגטער געזעצן אפגעזונדערט אין א גלאזערנעם‪,‬‬ ‫קויל‪-‬געשוצטן שטייג‪ ,‬אים צו היטן פון נקמה‪.‬‬ ‫גדעון האוזנער‪ ,‬דער פראקוראר‪ ,‬האט אין א דראמאטישער רעדע פארגעליינט די באשולדיגונגען אין נאמען פון די זעקס מליאן קדושים‪121 .‬‬ ‫עדות האבן אויפגעטראטן במשך דעם משפט‪ ,‬און דערציילט פאר דער וועלט דאס אומגלויבליכע וואס האט זיך אפגעשפילט אין אייראפע אין‬ ‫יענע פינסטערע יארן‪.‬‬ ‫טרערן האבן זיך געגאסן‪ ,‬געשרייען האבן זיך געהערט און איינער פון די עדות איז אפילו צאמגעפאלן און פאר’חלש’ט געווארן אינמיטן‬ ‫איבערגעבן זיין דראמאטישע עדות – ווען אנטקעגן זיי אלע זיצט דער קאלטער‪ ,‬פארפרוירענער אייכמאן אינעם גלעזערנעם קעמערל‪ ,‬באוואכט‬ ‫דורך צוויי פאליציאנטן‪ .‬איבער טויזנט‪-‬זעקס‪-‬הונדערט דאקומענטן זענען אפירגעברענגט געווארן אלס באווייזן‪ ,‬צווישן זיי פאפירן וועלכע‬ ‫אייכמאן האט פערזענליך אונטערגעשריבן אויסצופירן זיינע גרויליגע מעשים‪.‬‬ ‫די אנקלעגער האבן קלאר אויפגעוויזן אז אייכמאן איז געווען אקטיוו אין פארטרייבן די אידן איבער גאנץ אייראפע‪ ,‬זיי האלטן אונטער שרעקליך‬ ‫אוממענטשליכע אומשטענדן‪ ,‬און זיי אויסמארדן אויף א סיסטעמאטישן און ברוטאלן וועג‪ ,‬מיטן פלאן אויסצומעקן דעם גאנצן אידיש פאלק‬ ‫רח”ל‪.‬‬ ‫אייכמאנ’ס אדוואקאט‪ ,‬דאקטאר ראבערט סערוואציוס פון דייטשלאנד‪ ,‬האט אין אנהויב פרובירט אפצושלאגן די קלאגע מיט דער טענה אז‬ ‫דאס געריכט האט נישט קיין רעכט צו משפט’ן אייכמאן‪ ,‬ווייל‪ .1 :‬זיי זענען אידן און וועלן זיין אביעקטיוו – זיי וועלן אים נישט קענען דן זיין אן‬ ‫נגיעות‪ .2 .‬מען האט פארכאפט דעם באשולדיגטן פון זיין היים אין א צווייטן לאנד‪ .3 .‬דאס געזעץ אויף וועלכן די קלאגע איז געווען באזירט – א‬ ‫ספעציעלער געזעץ וואס מדינת‪-‬ישראל האט געמאכט איבער טויט‪-‬שטראף און משפט’ן די נאציס – האט מען באשטימט הערשט נאך דער‬ ‫קריג‪ ,‬און מען קען עס נישט ניצן אויף צוריקוועגס‪ .4 .‬די אלע פארברעכנס זענען נישט אפגעטון געווארן אין טעריטאריע פון מדינת‪-‬ישראל‪.‬‬ ‫דאס געריכט האט אפגעווארפן אלע זיינע טענות‪.‬‬ ‫אייכמאן האט נישט פרובירט צו לייקענען די שרעקליכע באשולדיגונגען קעגן אים‪ .‬ער צוזאמען מיט זיין אדוואקאט האבן נאר גע’טענה’ט אז ער‬ ‫איז געווען נישט מער ווי א קליינער שרויף אינעם מארד‪-‬מאשין‪ ,‬און נישט פון די אנפירער‪ .‬נאך א טענה‪ ,‬די זעלבע וואס פיל באשולדיגטע האבן‬ ‫פרובירט צו ניצן – אן ערפאלג – ביי די בארימטע נורענבערג‪-‬געריכטן‪ ,‬איז געווען אז ער האט נאר אויסגעפאלגט באפעלן פון זיינע אויבערהארן‪.‬‬ ‫‪Page 50‬‬

‫‪SAY YOU SAW IT IN THE LAKEWOOD WEEKLY‬‬ ‫פון דעם קרייץ‪-‬פארהער אויף אייכמאן‪ ,‬פארשונגען אויף די עדות‪ ,‬און דאקומענטן האט מען אבער אויפגעוויזן שווארץ‪-‬אויף‪-‬ווייס אז אייכמאן‬ ‫האט געהאט ברייטע‪ ,‬זעלבסטשטענדיגע רעכטן‪ .‬ער איז געווען דער הויפט טייל פונעם מארד‪-‬מאשין‪ ,‬און מיט א פינסטערער עקשנות‪ ,‬ברען און‬ ‫אומבויגזאמקייט אויסגעפירט היטלער’ס ווילן אויסצו’הרג’ענען וואס מער אידן; ער פערזענליך איז געווען פארמישט אין די פלאנירונגען‪ ,‬נאך‬ ‫ביים טרויעריג‪-‬בארימטן וואזנע‪-‬קאנפערענץ‪ ,‬אויסצו’שחט’ן אלע אידן פון אייראפע‪ .‬נאכמער‪ :‬ביי דער ענדע פון דער קריג‪ ,‬ווען העכערע פון‬ ‫אים האבן שוין געהייסן אויפהערן מיט די מאסן‪-‬רציחות‪ ,‬איז אייכמאן ווייטער אנגעגאנגען מיט זיינע פינסטערע מעשים ווי קיינמאל גארנישט‪ .‬ער‬ ‫האט נישט מוותר געווען אפילו אויף איינצלנע אידן‪ ,‬איגנארירנדיג די איטענסיווע אינטערווענץ פון גוטע פריינט אדער קאלעגעס‪.‬‬ ‫די פראקורארן האבן צום סוף געזאגט פארן געריכט‪“ :‬דער וועלכער איז געווען פארנומען מיט מארד אומאויפהערליך‪ ,‬טאג נאך טאג‪ ,‬חודש נאך‬ ‫חודש‪ ,‬און האט דאס געטון מיט א טיפער איבערצייגונג‪ ,‬אכזריות און הארטנעקיגקייט‪ ,‬צוגרייטנדיג די שחיטה אויף אלע טעראריסטישע מיטלען‬ ‫פון פאפעריי און ליגן‪ ,‬איז נישט ווערד קיין רחמנות‪ .‬ער איז געבוירן א מענטש‪ ,‬אבער ער האט געלעבט ווי א חיה און זשונגל; ער האט געטון‬ ‫אזעלכע מעשים וואס ווער עס טוט עס מעקט אפ פון זיך דאס מענטשליכע געשטאלט‪”.‬‬ ‫צווישן אנדערע האבן זיי ציטירט אייכמאנ’ס ווערטער צו עמיצן אין ארגענטינע אז “איך האב אלעמאל ענדערש געוואלט זען דעם איד טויט‬ ‫ווי לעבעדיג”‪ .‬אן אנדער מאל האט ער זיך פארענטפערט אז “נישט צוליב מיר זענען נאך געבליבן אידן אויף דער וועלט‪ ”.‬צום לעצט האבן זיי‬ ‫איבערגע’חזר’ט זיין שרעקליכסטן זאץ‪“ :‬איך וועל מיט פרייד אריינשפרינגען אין מיין קבר‪ ,‬וויסנדיג אז איך האב גע’הרג’עט זעקס מיליאן אידן‪”.‬‬ ‫עפרא‪-‬לפומיה‪.‬‬ ‫גדעון האוזנער האט זיך געוואנדן צו די ריכטער און אויסגעפירט‪“ :‬עס שטייט פאר אייך א פארטיליגער פון א פאלק‪ ,‬א פיינט פאר דער‬ ‫מענטשהייט‪ ,‬א פארגיסער פון אומשולדיג בלוט‪ .‬איך בעט מען זאל אים פאראורטיילן צום טויט‪”.‬‬ ‫אייכמאן האט די גאנצע צייט נישט ארויסגעוויזן קיין שום געפילן‪ ,‬נאר פאסיוו און גלייכגילטיג אויסגעהערט‪ ,‬ווי מען וואלט גערעדט פון גאר אן‬ ‫אנדערן‪.‬‬ ‫נאכדעם וואס דער אדוואקאט האט געבעטן פאר רחמנות‪ ,‬אז מען זאל זיך נישט אומגיין מיט דער פולסטער הארבקייט‪ ,‬איז געקומען די רייע פאר‬ ‫אייכמאן צו רעדן‪ .‬ער האט אנגעטון זיינע אויגן‪-‬גלעזער‪ ,‬און ארויסגעליינט פון א צעטל וואס ער האט זיך געהאט פארגעשריבן אין זיין צעל‪“ :‬איך‬ ‫בין נישט דער מאנסטער ווי מען וויל מיר דא אראפמאלן‪ .‬די אלע טאטן האב איך נישט געטון לויט מיין ווילן‪ ...‬מען זאגט אז איך וואלט געדארפט‬ ‫ווידערשפעניגן און נישט אויספאלגן די באפעלן‪ .‬דאס קען מען זאגן שפעטער‪ ,‬נאכדעם וואס עס פאסירט‪ .‬אין יענע אומשטענדן איז דאס נישט‬ ‫געווען מעגליך‪ .‬קיין איינער האט דאס נישט געטון‪”.‬‬ ‫דעם קומענדיגן טאג‪ ,‬דעצעמבער ‪ ,15‬יאר ‪ ,61‬האט דאס געריכט ארויסגעגעבן דעם אורטייל‪ :‬שולדיג‪ .‬די שטראף‪ :‬טויט דורך הענגען‪.‬‬ ‫אייכמאן האט אפעלירט דעם אורטייל צום העכערן געריכט‪ ,‬וועלכע האט עס אפגעווארפן מאי ‪ .29‬דאן האט דער אשמדאי פארלאנגט‬ ‫באגנאדיגונג פונעם פרעזידענט‪ .‬דער לעצטער האט דאס גלייך צוריקגעוויזן‪ ,‬צושרייבנדיג צום אפיציעלן אפעלאט דאקומענט די ווערטער וואס‬ ‫שמואל הנביא האט געזאגט פאר אגג‪“ :‬כאשר שכלה נשים חרבך‪ ,‬כן תשכל מנשים אמך”‪.‬‬ ‫אין דער נאכט צווישן דעם ‪31‬סטן מאי און יוני ‪ ,1‬יאר ‪ ,’62‬איז אייכמאן געהאנגען געווארן‪ .‬זיין קערפער איז דאן פארברענט געווארן אין א‬ ‫אויוון‪ ,‬וועלכע איז ספעציעל געבויעט געווארן פאר דעם צוועק אינעם הויף פון דער ראמאלא טורמע‪ .‬עטליכע מינוט איידער דער מארגנשטערן‬ ‫האט אויפגעשיינט‪ ,‬איז א קליין שיפל ארויסגעפארן צום מיטלענדישן ים‪ .‬דער מאטאר איז פארמאכט געווארן‪ ,‬און ווען די שיף האט זיך לייכט‬ ‫געווארפן אויף די שווארצע וואסערן האט א פאליציאנט אויסגעגאסן דעם אש פון זיין קערפער‪ .‬די שריט זענען גענומען געווארן אלס באווארנונג‬ ‫אז זיין באגרעבעניש‪-‬ארט זאל נישט ווערן א הייליגטום ביי נעא‪-‬נאציס אין דייטשלאנד און איבער דער גארער וועלט‪.‬‬ ‫כן יאבדו כל אויבך ה’‪.‬‬ ‫***‬ ‫און אצינד צו די פראגעס וואס פייניגן שוין דורות לאנג יעדן רעכטדענקנדן מענטש‪ :‬וואס האט פאסירט מיטן לעגענדארן העלד און חסיד‬ ‫אומות העולם‪ ,‬ראול וואלענבערג? וואו אויף דער וועלט איז ער אהינגעקומען? איז ער געשטארבן א נאטירליכער טויט‪ ,‬אדער איז ער ברוטאל‬ ‫ערמארדעט געווארן? פארוואס האט אים רוסלאנד בכלל ארעסטירט און דערנאך פארהאלטן? וואספארא סיבה אויף דער וועלט קען זיין אז די‬ ‫רוסן זאלן אים נישט וועלן צוריקגעבן נאך אזוי פיל יארן?‬ ‫ערשט צו די לעצטע צוויי פראגעס‪ :‬די רוסן האבן העכסט ווארשיינליך פארדעכטיגט אז וואלענבערג איז א שפיאן פאר די אמעריקאנער אדער די‬ ‫דייטשן‪ .‬פאר די רוסן‪ ,‬ביי וועמען אנטיסעמיטיזם ליגט זיי אינעם בלוט‪ ,‬האט זיך נישט געשטעלט אויפן שכל אז א געערטער בירגער זאל אנשטאט‬ ‫פארברענגען שטיל און רואיג אין זיין נייטראלן לאנד‪ ,‬זיך ארויסלאזן צום פראנט פון א ברענענדיגער מלחמה בלויז ארויסצוהעלפן אידישע‬ ‫קינדער‪ .‬עס האט געמוזט זיין אן אנדער אורזאך‪ ,‬האבן זיי באשלאסן‪.‬‬ ‫ווען בודאפעסט איז געפאלן אין די רוסישע הענט האבן זיי בכלל זיך צולאזט און געטון וואס עס האט זיי געגלוסט‪ :‬גערויבט פארמעגנס‪ ,‬גע’גנב’עט‬ ‫און זיך אריינגעבראכן אין בענק לאור היום‪ .‬זיי האבן אפילו פארשיקט די פאר’צרה’טע אידן‪ ,‬קוים ארויסגעראטעוועט פון די נאצישע לאגערן‪,‬‬ ‫קיין סיביר אויף לאנגע יארן‪ .‬עס האט געהערשט א הפקרות און כאאס אין לאנד‪.‬‬ ‫אין א געוויסע זין איז וואלענבערג טאקע געווען א שליח פון די אמעריקאנער‪ .‬ער האט דאך באקומען געלט פון דער אמעריקאנער ‘קאמיטעט‬ ‫פאר קריגס פליכטלינגען’ און אפילו געשיקט פאר זיי באריכטן‪ .‬עס קען אויך זיין אז זיין שייכות מיט דער אידישער ‘דזשוינט’ – וועלכע איז אין די‬ ‫רוסישע אויגן געווען א ציוניסטישע‪ ,‬אנטי‪-‬סאוויעטע ארגאניזאציע – איז געווען גענוג אים צו ארעסטירן‪ .‬נאך א סברה ווערט אויפגעברענגט דורך‬ ‫טייל פארשער‪ :‬זייענדיג א מיטגליד פון דער באקאנטער וואלענבערג פאמיליע‪ ,‬א פאמיליע פון באנקירער און דיפלאמאטן‪ ,‬זענען די רוסן מעגליך‬ ‫געווען איבערצייט אז ער ווייסט אסאך וועגן די אידישע געלטער וואס איז ארויסגעשווערצט געווארן אין די מלחמה‪-‬יארן‪.‬‬ ‫וויבאלד וואלענבערג איז אנגעקומען קיין מאסקווע‪ ,‬און די שוועדן האבן דאן נישט ארויסגעוויזן קיין שום ערנסטן אינטערעס אין אים‪ ,‬איז ער‬ ‫דארט פארבליבן‪.‬‬ ‫אבער פארוואס איז ער דערנאך נישט באפרייט געווארן?
