Dear Rabbi Laufer,

This is ….. from ….. I'm writing to express to you just how meaningful it is what you are doing for my family.

As I had told you on the phone, I am a mother of 11, my youngest, my daughter of 13 years is medically impaired special needs who is B"H in Sharay Chemlah in Monroe. Since ….. 7 years ago, I have been struggling to provide and care for my children on my own, with no help from anywhere ….. needing to get up at 6 a.m. to start the day with my children in order to keep food and some basics in the home, but was still unable to cover all the bills, and at times had no food at all in the house, not even bread or milk. For over a year already I have been unable to work at all since my daughter's health has regressed and has continually been regressing. I have been needing to give her my full care and be for her at all hours.

As a mother I have had to sit and watch my children suffer and go through all of their pain and trials Hashem has sent them. knowing that Hashem would only give them these things to build them up, to make them stronger, (and believe me, the things each and every one of my children have been through, no one should ever have to go through.) that He would never give something that no matter how difficult a challenge it will in the end only be good. I know in my heart, in the zechus of all their grandparents from two sides, the Bal Shem Tov, the Iszbitzter, and the Bais Yaakov, that my children will only learn and grow from all their trials in order to be there to help klal Yisroel in bringing Moshiach.

But still the pain as a mother of watching, even knowing, with only my tears and tephilos, is very difficult. I sit with the pain like the twisting of a knife in my heart, trying to be here the best I can for my children. To

accept and love them no matter what they do. But unable to provide much of anything for them. Unable to provide, to prepare for them food which they love so much when they come home. Knowing that as much as I tell them I love them, that I'm proud of them, I'm always here for them no matter what, that they are my entire world. They still need a loving meal as well from their mommy. Words alone are not enough. Now when they come home, they have the smell of their favorite dishes, and they smile, which lightens my heart each time seeing that smile, watching them enjoy their meal.

I have told them where everything has come from, how you are doing this tremendous chessed for such families in need, it's so important for them to see this, it opens their eyes to see that there isn't only pain from where they come from. There is chessed and so much more good, love and acceptance.

I have so much hakaras hatov for what you are doing, I thank you Hashem every time I shop, cook and watch my kids eat that He has sent you as this sh'liach to help my family and all the families you have been helping, you should be able to continue helping and as such I know He will most definitely bless ….. with children that will be healthy and grow to be tzaddikim, talmidei chachomim, baalei chassodim, tznuahs, with chein and give only naches to Hashem, their parents and grandparents.

Your entire family should only know from simcha, brocha, parnassah, health in every way, hatzlacha and shmirah from Hashem.

If I may be so bold as to ask for the Rav to add the names of my children to any lists of tephilos there may be.

Handheld Healing

When I decided to get my first smartphone, I

decided that I would not allow myself to get addicted. The phone would help me for work purposes, and that’s all.

My resolution was firm, but with time, I must admit, it began to unravel. It happened slowly, without my even realizing it… I found myself toying with my phone more and more.

I never took those two steps back to look at myself from afar and realize how far I’d gone. I never wanted to acknowledge the fact that I was slipping into the technological whirlpool, getting sucked into its depths. I was too immersed in what I was doing – and I hardly realized how deep I had dipped.

Then, one day, an accident happened. I tripped over some wires right in the middle of my office floor. I brushed myself off and continued about my business, but my hand was throbbing. When the pain and swelling would not subside, I made myself an appointment at an orthopedist. Sure enough, my wrist was fractured.

With my brand new wrist splint, my mobility was restricted. I couldn’t write, type,

or cut, and I couldn’t move my fingers well.

Suddenly, I came face to face with reality: I had been spending much of my waking hours swishing my fingers across my phone’s screen. I only realized it now – when I couldn’t tap, swipe, or drag.

Being a strong righty, I could not rely on my left hand fingers to do the work.

I was on forced vacation.

Goodbye phone, goodbye apps. My social media friends had to contend with my absence as I allowed my bones to heal.

I went through withdrawal symptoms. When I was hooked to my phone, my constant need to be connected raised my stress levels. As I came to terms with my new reality – without any texting – I realized how much calmer and more focused I could be.

It was then that I learned of the social media detox concept, a 30-day elimination of social media use, which specialists in the outside world recommend! Some suggest going for a full cleanse, others set limits or delete apps, all in the name of breaking social media addiction and the negative side effects it often brings.

I went into the healing process full force –not by choice, but by default. And I never looked back.

In recent years there has been a serious deterioration concerning the wigs. “The Defender has become The Prosecutor”, whereby the precious mitzvah of Kisui Rosh, the purpose of which is to add to the married woman’s modesty, has turned in many cases into a stumbling block of immodesty. Already in the year 5756 (1996) Gedolei Yisroel wrote that the vast majority of the new wigs are not in accordance with the ways of modesty. Since then and up until today the situation only gets worse and worse. Therefore we hereby proclaim that all efforts must be made to correct this.

In addition, we strengthen and encourage those women who due to the above deterioration have taken upon themselves, with their husbands consent, not to go out at all with a wig but rather only with a cloth headcovering. And challila to discourage those who strengthen themselves in this way. On the contrary, at a time like this when the wigs are getting further and further away from modesty, we should rejoice and bless this chizuk and we wish there would be many more such women in Klal Yisroel.

Rav Osher Chaim Lieberman quoted the Orchos Yosher where Maran Sar Hatorah Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlita brings from his father that one should teach 5 minutes a day of mussar to children from the age of 7 years and up, e.g. teaching that there’s sechar v’onesh and the world is not hefker.

Parents must know that they must give their children as much time as the children need. This is considered a mitzvah that is not possible for another person to fulfill. The Rav gave the example that a father should not daven vasikin if it’s not good for his child.
