PRESCHOOL BRASÍLIA • BRAZIL
The following project is a local pre-school design, developed to attend the needs of a small community located on the “South Wing“ neighbourhood of Brasília. The administration block has a very simple shape, with some light-shading elements to block the sun in the west facade.
08
Althought trying to blend the design of the school within its context, the classroom block breaks these simple lines and has an irregular house-shape form. The inspiration behind this, are the typical drawings made by children when they first start school.

The main bedrooms are located on the first floor, but the downstairs lounge is the heart of the house, and the connection point to every room. The large glass sliding doors facing the garden allow light to spill into the room and add a bit of green to the house.

RESIDENTIAL
COMPLEX BRASÍLIA • BRAZIL
RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX 22
This project consists of the development of a residential complex in one of the only remaining vacant residential areas in Brasília. As an introduction to urban planning, we worked in pairs to develop a “Super Square” - the name given to residential blocks in the “Pilot Plan” airplane-shape of the city. With the master plan design defined, we individually developed our own residential building projects inside the complex.

As with any residential building inside the “Pilot Plan of Brasilia, the building has only six floors and is raised by pilotis to leave the public area on the ground floor free. In an attempt to blend with the modern style of the city, the proposed building has clean lines and rational planning of space.
26
One of the main features of the project is the externally exposed steel frame structure, creating a free-space dynamic on the inside.

This is a live project that aims to re-imagine the grade II Hepworth Mill building, as a place to complement the works of The Hepworth Wakefield Gallery and exhibit the “Twix Aire and Calder collection.

FINAL PROPOSAL
30
THE MASTER PLAN The form of the landscape design refers to the final shape of The Hepworth Wakefield, which is based on a conglomeration of trapezoidal blocks of different sizes. As the river is an important part of the city’s history, it was decided that it should embrace the house, giving greater emphasis to the building that will host the archive gallery.

THE ORIGINAL MILL (photographs taken in 2014) The new floor plan layouts were designed to provide a unique experience to visitors, who will have access to all the important files and historical memorabilia of the Mill and the city in chronological order.
A wood element former used in the mill process was refurbished and used as a light feature in the new proposed design. It also works as memorabilia in the house.
35
SECTION B
36
STAIRCASE DESIGN Barbara Hepworth’s work was decisive when defining the staircase design. The main shape was inspired by her sculptures’ forms and it almost stands out as a sculpture itself.
37
Located in the heart of the commercial area of the city, this business tower has a mixed-use purpose. The building was designed to work as both an office tower, and a shopping center complex.

With 13 floors overground and 4 basement floors, this building was split to accommodate different uses. It has seven office floors, with an open floor plan concept; two floors designated as a co-working area, one as a restaurant; three floors work as a shopping center and three basement floors are designated as car parking areas.

UNIVERSITY
SQUARE BRASILIA • BRAZIL
This project aimed to transform an old car park located inside a private university in Brasília, into a square for the students. As a way of attracting different types of users, the proposed square has a mix of spaces. From left to right, the square presents: a relaxation area under the trees, a coffee shop, an exhibition display area for university works, and a “formal” area with a flag stand, as required by the Director.
