DANNY

HELLO, HELLO, HELLO… WELL WHAT A FEW MONTHS IT HAS BEEN IN MY LITTLE WORLD. I’VE BEEN UP AND DOWN THE UK ON ANOTHER TOUR, LEFT THE SECURITY OF HAVING A FULL-TIME JOB TO FOCUS ON MY PASSIONS AND HAD THE ODD BREAK DOWN HERE AND THERE, OH AND I’VE ENTERED THE 40S CLUB! (HENCE THE BREAKDOWNS). FINALLY, YOU MIGHT HAVE NOTICED A LITTLE NAME CHANGE…. I’M NOW … TAILOR MAID COLBY.

Grab yourself a cup of tea, relax and hear all about it below!

Life Update

If you read my article regularly you will know that I have worked in the makeup industry for a long time, 20+ years, and I absolutely loved it. It has been my constant source of inspiration and creativity. I love how makeup can inspire confidence and provide the ability for someone to see themselves in a different light. That’s why I got into makeup in the first place. To help people feel better about themselves. I have worked full time for multiple brands as an artist, trainer and educator, helping to build education plan and strategies to support the development of other artists and employees, but I feel that now is the time for me to take a wee break from all that and focus on me. Since 2020 my drag career has become a major focus for me. Each year the gigs have been increasing and the time I dedicate to Tailor has followed suit. I couldn’t juggle full time work as well as all my gigs hosting, performing, entertaining and teaching. So I bit the bullet in June and left my full time job to really focus on the things that I love. It’s been scary, but the best thing for me.

In saying that, I haven’t left makeup behind, I have started falling in love with makeup application again, I’m taking clients, for one-to-one lessons, applications, and I still teach as part of Ciara Daly’s masters course on the Lisburn Road. The way I see it, you only get one life to do everything you want to do, and you can’t get time back once its gone, so why not just go for it.

Sasha Colby Uk Tour

Talking about going for it… I have just arrived home from the best experience and the biggest highlight of my drag career to date. I had the honour of hosting Sasha Colby’s UK tour in late September and it was an absolute dream. We were up and down the UK performing our asses off for jam-packed venues, working with the best local talent, and just generally having a ball.

know Sasha was pregnant with twins lol.) Quick shout out to Paige Three, my fellow UK Colby sister. Love you loads xx

Being a Colby is such an honour, it feels great to be recognised but there is also a responsibility that comes with the name, to do myself and Sasha proud and that I will. Touring is always a lot of fun, but what you don’t see behind the scenes is all the hard work, organisation, stress and nerves, in making sure everything goes right each night. We have an incredible team at DFIU Events and I am so proud to be part of it. The hard work all pays off when you meet everyone during the meet and greets and then see the joy it brings people when they are watching the shows.

In a strange way, I know it’s not the same but it gives me the same feeling that I get when I do makeup. It’s a wee burst of endorphins seeing people enjoy something that you are doing whether it be makeup or performing.

My mum always says “if you find something that you love doing, you will never work a day in your life” and that’s definitely my experience right now.

Can’t wait to see what’s next…. Stay tuned. Signing off for the first time

Please note, this column is the opinion of the columinst and not that of GNI or Romeo & Julian

I am like a sponge when I’m on tour, I learned so much from all the other performers, but I have to say, I learned the most from “your favourite drag queens, favourite drag queen” mother herself Sasha Colby. She is the sweetest. Supportive, kind, patient and real. We really grew close on the tour and I miss her already. We got on so well that I was invited into her drag family as her drag daughter. I am now officially a COLBY. Aghhhhh! The first in UK and Ireland (only by a few days…I didn’t
