WELCOME TO L.A.'S MARINA A seaside enclave in Southern California and only 4 miles north of LAX, Marina del Rey is the perfect destination for on-the-water adventure and for exploring the best of Los Angeles.

> Marina del Rey shines brightly along the Pacific Coast with its diverse on-the-water recreation, dining with views of the scenic harbor, and stylish guest rooms and suites at waterfront hotels. Adventure-seekers can take advantage of year-round pleasant weather with outdoor excursions such as sailing charters, stand-up paddle boarding, and beachside biking. Also, the Marina is the pick-up point for sportfishing, whale watching, and parasailing trips, all of which head out onto Santa Monica Bay. It’s no secret the Marina’s popular restaurant scene is making waves across Los Angeles, with award-winning chefs focused on crafting inventive, seasonal menus inspired by California’s fresh bounty. Diners tend to stay awhile, as it’s easy to become enthralled by views of luxury yachts and the early evening light reflecting on the water. It’s worth noting that the world-famous Venice Beach and Santa Monica are right next door, along with the newly built SoFi Stadium just a few minutes away. You’ll also find easy access to Beverly Hills, Malibu, Universal Studios Hollywood, and downtown L.A. After a busy day of exploring, there’s no better place to come back to than any of the Marina’s waterfront hotels. In 2020, the Marina del Rey Convention and Visitors Bureau proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary. Go to www.visitmarinadelrey.com for updates, events and more information. Sign up for our monthly newsletter and read our blog for fun tips and resources. We know you’ll soon discover Marina del Rey is coastal vacationing at its best—and truly is the Crown Jewel of Los Angeles. See you soon!

Or enjoy a cocktail at Whiskey Red’s, SALT Restaurant & Bar at Marina del Rey Hotel and Beachside at Jamaica Bay Inn for breathtaking sunset views. weekly on select evenings at popular restaurants such as Cafe del Rey, Sinder Lounge at the Marina del Rey Marriott, Killer Shrimp, Marina Bar & Grill at Hilton Garden Inn and Beachside. Get ready to move with salsa dancing at The Warehouse. Check out cover bands and local talent performing weekly at Hinano’s and The Whaler just steps from the Venice Pier. Or turn it up on a music-themed dining cruise such as blues, country, reggae or yacht rock with Hornblower Cruises & Events as well as FantaSea Yachts.

Summer night scene in the Marina… > Grab a picnic dinner and make your way to Burton Chace Park in July and August for the free Summer Concert Series featuring Symphonic Thursdays and Pop Saturdays. Sip on seasonal cocktails at SALT Restaurant & Bar while you watch sailboats return from the annual Sunset Series Regatta. Continue the evening at cocktail lounges along Washington Boulevard such as Old Lightning and The Little

Friend. For some outdoor fun, play lawn games like cornhole at Irish pub Brennan’s, known for its turtle races every month or kick back on the outdoor patio at Sunny Spot.

For late night bites… > When the evening rolls into afterhour grub, the following spots serve food past 10 p.m. in and around L.A.’s Marina. In the heart of the Marina, Killer Café, open 24 hours a day, offers hearty comfort food along with its late, late happy hour menu from midnight to 2 a.m. nightly. Another option is The Cheesecake Factory with its extensive menu guaranteed to please all palates. For more late-night happy hours with shareable food, try Yard House, Cabo Cantina and Firestone Walker’s The Propagator. Along Washington Boulevard, late night cravings can be fulfilled at Scopa, Nighthawk: Breakfast Bar and The Pier House. Need a dose of caffeine to get you through the after party? FUN ON THE WATER It’s no surprise that Marina del Rey’s top attraction is the harbor itself. There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the water, both for those experienced with water sports and visitors who will see the Pacific Ocean for the first time. As L.A.’s premier waterfront playground, Marina del Rey is the place to be for boating, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and other aquatic adventures. Even if you’d rather stay on land, numerous outdoor activities afford views of the sparkling harbor.

STAND-UP PADDLE AND KAYAKING Self-explore the harbor with a rentby-the-hour kayak or paddleboard. Keep an eye out for sea lions lazily lounging on the docks or even swimming right beside you!

Marina del Rey Boat Rentals 13717 Fiji Way 310-306-4444 | marinadelreyboatrentals.com > In addition to an assortment of boats for rent, this operation leases kayaks and paddleboards from its shop on the dock behind El Torito restaurant at Fisherman’s Village. Call for hours in cooler months.

Paddle Method 14110 Palawan Way 310-770-7291 | paddlemethod.com > Paddle Method specializes in private and group stand-up paddle lessons and tours/team-building excursions in the harbor, available by reservation.

Pro SUP Shop 4175 Admiralty Way 310-989-4350 | prosupshop.com > Pro SUP Shop’s location at Marina “Mother’s” Beach is the best spot to learn this sport. The calm cove is virtually wave and current free, offering you prime conditions in which to practice your balance and paddling skills. Pro SUP offers hourly paddleboard and kayak rentals, and its certified staff will help guide you into this fun aquatic sport. Guided tours and lessons are available by reservation.

UCLA Marina Aquatic Center 14001 Fiji Way 310-823-0048 | recreation.ucla.edu/mac > UCLA athletes on school rowing teams are often on-site for practice, but the center runs many public programs too, including sailing lessons for youth and adults, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and windsurfing rentals. The MAC also offers guide services for groups who want to paddle or sail in the Marina with an expert leading the way.

CRUISES Some of the best views of L.A.’s Marina must be seen from the water. Enjoy a spectacular sunset from the deck of a yacht. Soak up the sun on a champagne brunch cruise. Treat your special someone to a romantic evening of dinner and dancing under the stars. With the following cruises available year-round, it’s easy to work the experience into your itinerary.

FantaSea Yachts 310-827-2220 | fantaseayachts.com > A family-owned business established in 1980, FantaSea specializes in large-group private events on the water for parties of 50–300 guests, but also has periodic Taste the World themed dining cruises open to the public; find these cruises at our online events calendar, visitmarinadelrey.com/events.

Private charters for holiday parties, weddings, and other social events are available for 10–500 guests.

Skippered Boats for Hire Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just soaking up the warm sun on a Sunday sailing trip, a Marina del Rey yacht charter is a quintessential Southern California experience. 310-822-3625 | mdrsf.com > Marina del Rey Sportfishing offers the most affordable option for singleday fishing excursions in Los Angeles. Choose from open-party (public) half-day and three-quarter-day fishing trips out onto Santa Monica Bay, offered year-round. Private trips are also available. Santa Monica Bay is home to numerous types of gamefish. Depending on the season, you’ll be on the hunt for halibut, barracuda, sand bass, calico bass, white sea bass, and yellowtail. The boat service includes fish cleaning and packaging, or you can catch and release. A valid fishing license is required for anyone 16 years of age or older, and you can buy a one-day license on the boat as well as rent tackle (cash only for onboard purchases). The boat departs from Dock 52 (13552 Fiji Way), which has a large parking lot with free parking.

Land-Based Fishing: Licensed fishing is permitted at the North and South jetties. You can also fish at the nearby Venice Pier, which doesn’t require a license. Fishing licenses and bait are available at the West Marine store, 310-823-5357. The shop doesn’t rent tackle, but there is plenty for sale. Marina del Rey Sportfishing operates a bait dock at Fisherman’s Village, open daily 5 a.m.–6 p.m. Anyone can stop by with a bucket or cooler to purchase live or fresh frozen bait in the form of

sardines, squid, and anchovies. Dock fishing from the bait dock is allowed between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.; $10 per person, including bait. A fishing license is required and can be purchased at the dock, as well as rental rods (call ahead to confirm availability, 310-822-3625).

Private Fishing Trips: Flip to our Yacht Charters section starting on page 38 for information on skippered boats available for private hire. Look for the fishing icon that identifies companies that offer their charter services for fishing trips—not all do.
