Norton Simon Museum The private art collection of industrialist Norton Simon is, simply put, incredible. The museum houses more than 12,000 objects collected over a span of 30 years. Today, visitors can see roughly 1,000 pieces on display in the museum’s galleries and gardens. Take in European art spanning from the Renaissance to the 20th century, as well as of important pieces from India and Southeast Asia. Gamble House Gamble House was intricately designed in 1908 by Pasadena architects Greene & Greene for David and Mary Gamble. Many architects consider Gamble House the finest example of early 20th-century Craftsman architecture in the country, and visitors can tour the property to see the interiors, all preserved with their original furnishings. Kidspace Children’s Museum If you’re visiting with children 10 and under, Kidspace should be at the top of your to-do list. Tournament House and Wrigley Gardens It’s hard to miss the stately white Renaissance-style mansion perched along Pasadena’s grand Orange Grove Boulevard. The structure, presented to the City of Pasadena in 1958 by the Wrigley family, today serves as the permanent headquarters for the Tournament of Roses. It’s surrounded by Wrigley Gardens, a display of verdant plants and flowers including more than 1,500 varieties of roses, camellias, and annuals. tournamentofroses.com

5 6 8 10 The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens The Huntington is one of the city’s crown jewels, packed with so much to experience that you could easily spend the whole day there. The property’s 16 spectacular botanical gardens are spread over 130 scenic acres. Marvel at the otherworldly succulents in the desert garden, inhale the intoxicating scent wafting through the expansive rose garden, then weave your way through a lush bamboo forest on your way to the ornate Japanese garden. Don’t miss the Japanese Heritage Shōya House, a 3,000-square-foot residence built around 1700, where visitors can walk through a portion of the house to see how inhabitants lived their daily lives more

The Arroyo Seco The Arroyo Seco, or “the Arroyo,” is a stretch of land first inhabited by the Hahamog’na Tribe of Tongva Native Americans. It contains a stream that runs all the way from the San Gabriel Mountains down to the Pacific Ocean, creating a lush ecosystem in its wake. Here, you’ll find the world’s first disc golf course, an archery range, a casting pond, and a lovely garden dedicated to native plants. Hike or bike any stretch of the 22 miles of trails that connect the Angeles National Forest with South Pasadena to take in the native landscape and incredible views.

Colorado Street Bridge The iconic Colorado Street Bridge was opened to the public in 1913. Made from concrete, this curved structure spans almost 1,500 feet, and towers 150 feet above ground in some areas. You can see the bridge’s Beaux Arts arches, light standards, and railings in several Hollywood productions, including 2016’s acclaimed film “La La Land.” Pro tip: During California’s poppy season, you can snap a great photo of the orange blooms from nearby Desiderio Park with the bridge as the backdrop.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) It’s true: America’s Mars rovers were designed right here in Pasadena at JPL, a research, development, and flight

USC Pacific Asia Museum This one-of-akind museum was constructed in 1924 by Pasadena architectural firm Marston, Van Pelt, and Maybury at the behest of anthropologist Grace Nicholson, who guided the project with her illustrations and ideas. The design carefully followed the Imperial Palace Courtyard style found in many of Beijing, China’s notable buildings, and won national praise for its stunning beauty. Now dubbed the USC Pacific Asia Museum, it’s one of the most stunning examples of Chinese architecture. Where Did Pasadena’s Parrots Come From? Every morning at dawn and dusk, the squawking of Pasadena’s flock of vibrant green parrots can be heard. But how did they get here from their native eastern Mexico? Urban legend suggests they escaped from a pet store fire 50 years ago, but most wildlife experts theorize that the parrots are descended from those who were poached for the pet trade in the 1970s and ’80s. Their new owners were often overwhelmed by the amount of care the birds need to survive, and many were released into the wild.

Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) Hollywood Burbank Airport is a nice life hack for travelers flying in from the West Coast, the Southwest, New York City, Chicago, or Houston and want to avoid heavy traffic. The smaller airport is 15 miles (24 km) from Pasadena and a major hub for Southwest, Alaska, Delta, United, American, and JetBlue airlines. Taxis and rideshares are readily available upon arrival. The most efficient way to get to Pasadena via
