Ready Locations for Data centers in SWEDEN

In an increasingly connected world, data traffic needs to be closer to its market.

Big Green Data Several municipalities and private companies in northern Sweden are joining forces to create a platform and enable data centre activity to be attracted to the region. Our county in northern Sweden is a leading industrial region, enabling us to offer a very powerful and stable power grid, with one of the lowest electricity tax rates in Sweden. Proximity to rivers and the sea provides logistic advantages for business set-ups, but also opportunities for costeffective cooling. We offer greenfield, brownfield and rock-shelter sites. All packed in a cold climate.

What we offer: We can offer among the most competive electricity prices in Europe, today and in the foreseeable future. We have an electricity grid built for heavy, mission-critical industries. Our energy generation mix has the highest renewable profile in Europe. Our region has a robust national fibre infrastructure with excellent connections to the main geographical regions of Europe, including Russia. Sweden is ranked first among the Nordics, and third in the world as a datacenter location, by the “Data Center Risk Index”. (Cushman&Wakefield) Since Google set up in the Nordics in 2008, the following brands have chosen the Nordics as their domicile: in Sweden Facebook in 2011, Ericsson in 2013, Digiplex in 2013, and in Finland Yandex in 2013 and Microsoft in 2013. Follow-up investments have been made in Sweden by Sungard (2013), Interxion (2013) and Telecity (2012/13). All our sites are located close to Mid Sweden University, with its extensive ICT education. Our region contains the largest clusters in IT, as well as banking, pensions and insurance, outside the metropolitan regions. Västernorrland is a leading industrial county with several of the crown jewels of Swedish industry in forestry, energy and mechanical engineering.

1 Hamre The area This greenfield site is situated at the heart of Swedish power production, close to the city of Sollefteå. This region is Sweden’s second-largest hydro power producer, and is also strongly committed to wind power. The municipality of Sollefteå is classified as one of Sweden’s low-tax areas for the purposes of electricity tax, helping your company to cut its power costs. This is also a region in Aid Area 1, offering several benefits for setting up and running businesses.

Alongside the river Faxälven and one of its hydro power plants, you will find this 40-hectare plot of flat land. As it is already partially zoned for this purpose we can offer a very quick set-up process..

Technical facilities • 150 MW within 12 months. Redundancy from 400 kV and 220 kV grids. Within a few years this site will offer redundancy from two separate 400 kV grids. • Located alongside the river Faxälven, providing water for cooling. • Redundant fibre-optic networks.

Business set-up on new site (greenfield site) • 400,000 m2 of flat land for development. • Already partially zoned for industrial purposes.

2 Nipan The area The area is located in the interior of Ångermanland, and its centre is on the southern shore of the Ångermanälven river. The large land area of the municipality provides opportunities to establish major activities. Access to power also makes energy-intensive business set-ups possible. The municipality of Sollefteå is the second-largest producer of hydro power in Sweden. Sixteen major power stations generate nearly 15% of Sweden’s hydro power. There is also a commitment to wind power. Sollefteå is located in support area 1, which may be financially beneficial for a business set-up.

DATA

Technical facilities The area has a stable power supply with the lowest rate of electricity tax in Sweden. Directly connected to several fibre-optic networks, which provides good redundancy.

Business set-ups on new sites in the area (greenfield sites) Site 1 - Available land area of around 40,000 m2. The area is already the subject of local development planning, which means fast processing of applications. Power and fibre-optic networks are already in place. 5 MW can be supplied immediately. Direct connection to the road network with several links. The lot is already buildable. Site 2 - Available land area of 75,000 m2. Planning is in progress.

Business set-ups in rock chambers - ’Rock Centre’ A facility of 3,000 m2 in a rock chamber with a central location in the town. Planning is in progress.

3 Utansjöverken The area Utansjöverken is close to the southern end of the High Coast Bridge (Höga Kusten-bron), which spans the Ångermanälven river. A central location where the towns of Härnösand, Kramfors, Sollefteå, Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik are within easy reach. Proximity to the university, with its IT courses. Good communications with wide freedom of choice as the E4 highway passes close by, as does the Ådalsbanan railway line, and there are two airports within a radius of a few tens of kilometres.

DATA

There is a harbour with two quays in the area where it is possible to dock ships with a draught of 8.6 metres and a length of 170 metres. The harbour facility consists of a fenced-off area with video surveillance and is approved according to the ISPS concept. Tugs are available for assistance or ice-breaking in winter-time.

Technical facilities There are two 130 kV power supplies to the area with installed power of 72 MVA, 60 MW. The area has its own raw water, from Lake Mörtsjön, with capacity of 25,000 m3/day and cooling water from the Ångermanälven river, where the incoming water temperature is 4-10°C. In addition there is an efficient infrastructure with roads, telephone networks and an expanded IT network with fibre-optic cables. There are several sections of fibre-optic cable, at the E4 and the Ådalsbanan railway line, within a distance of around 500 m.

Business set-ups in existing premises (brownfield sites) The area contains a factory building erected in 2005. This building has three storeys, each of 1,382 m2. The total volume of the building is 35,000 m3. Power networks in the building 220V, 400V, 500V and 10kV. Overhead travelling crane with capacity of 40 tonnes.

Business set-ups on new sites in the area (greenfield sites) Directly alongside the Utansjรถverken industrial site there is land where new activities can be established. We can offer 20 hectares of land where new buildings could conceivably be situated. The areas of land for new construction can be extended.
