La Mensajera: Under Construction Winter 2015 Edition

Page 1

Letter from the EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Greetings, I am Jessica Torres Estrada, the new Director of Engagement with Headquarters Staff and I thank you for providing me the opportunity to serve as your Editor-in-Chief of La Mensajera. It is with great pride, after holding numerous visionary conversations with La Mensajera Editorial Board that I share with you the new vision and movement for La Mensajera. The conversation on the national level has included an evolution in the look, content and feel for La Mensajera. As a board, we asked ourselves these questions: How can we better the content included in LM? As a national organization, how are we empowering our sisters? Is there something currently in place that sisters can go to when they’re wanting to feel empowered? But most importantly, if someone were to pick up La Mensajera, what are they taking away from the newsletter? Is there a bigger message they can take away? Something that can empower you for years to come? This shift comes from the need to actively empower our sisters. This is the time for La Mensajera to become a platform for sisters to address issues that affect our everyday lives. This is where we will recognize sisters for their accomplishments, share their stories, voice your concerns, visions, or stances, but most importantly, where we can educate and engage our members to empower one another. As the year commences and board members are moving on from La Mensajera, we are pleased to announce an expansion opportunity with the board. In the following pages, you will find open positions that need to be filled. Please review the qualifications and experience needed and how to apply. We hope that this issue provides a more in-depth understanding of what La Mensajera will represent and how you can be a part of it’s message. On behalf of La Mensajera Editorial Board, I would like to wish you a day filled with kindness and empowerment from one sister to another. Be that catalyst!

Sigma Lambda Gamma strives to be the premier organization committed to providing a mechanism of empowerment to all women

LM STRUCTURE In 2011 a group of alumnae approached Headquarters with interest in bringing back publication of our national newsletter.
