Greetings from the Board Governor & Secretary-Treasuer Notes:

Governor’s Note:

Hi, there!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving filled with family, food, and fun! With the holidays approaching, there are many festive service projects that our hard working Lieutenant Governors have planned for you all. Be sure to check in with your corresponding LTG for the latest events including updates about Winter Rallies. As we reflect on all our blessings during this time of the year, I want you to not lose focus on what Key Club is all about—service. We are here to serve our community, especially those who need our help most. During the holidays, I want you to count your blessings but also be a figure of hope and compassion for those who are not as fortunate. The Governor’s Project goal deadline is quickly approaching. This year our district has a goal of dedicating 25,000 service hours towards assisting children in the foster care system, impoverished communities, shelters, and more. Check in with your club secretary to see how many hours your club has contributed, and never stop exploring different ways you can help! We can build a better future for our communities starting with the children who will become its future leaders! Thank you for reading, Governor Jannie Nguyen governor.lmtkc@gmail.com Secretary-Treasurer’s Note:

Dear Key Clubbers of LaMissTenn, Happy Holidays! I hope that all of you are staying healthy and having great school years! Thank you so much for your continuing service throughout this year of 2020! From the pandemic to the hurricanes, all of you have been so resilient and maintained determination in serving, both in-person and virtual. Each and every single Key Clubber of the LaMissTenn District of Key Club International is amazing, and I am so honored to be serving all of you! Thanks and continue to bring light to your homes, schools, and communities, especially during the holiday season! Yours in service, Madison Tarifa sec.treas.lmtkc@gmail.com

District Quarterly Service Project: Each quarter we focus on a different theme for service projects. Our focus through January is vulnerbility.

In an article from Health Affairs- Caring for the Vulnerable, they stated the following regarding vulnerability. "Vulnerability, the susceptibility to harm, results from an interaction between the resources available to individuals and the life challenges they encounter and overcome. Vulnerability results from developmental problems, personal incapacities, disadvantaged social status, inadequacy of interpersonal networks and supports, degraded neighborhoods and environments, and the complex interactions of these factors over the life course. Vulnerability issues may arise from individual, community, or larger population challenges and requires different types of policy interventions from social and economic development of neighborhoods and communities, and educational and income policies, to individual medical interventions." Those who are suffering from the following misfortunes are considered vulnerable and could be categorized as the homeless, orphans, those who are suffering with mental illness, human trafficking, etc. Helping those who are vulnerable may include but are not limited to the following: helping schools (by enhancing their learning environment, educational resources or quality); providing a safe place to congregate or exercise; furnishing access to food/healthier foods; attending to special needs (because of illness, disability or incapacity); and tending to/supporting isolated frail, elderly people or the homeless. The following link includes a list of advocacy ideas on ending human trafficking: http://www.ipjc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/CreativeIdeasToEndHumanTrafficking.pdf The link below includes a list of organizations fighting human trafficking: http://www.endslaverynow.org/act/volunteer Here are some vulnerbility service projects: 1. Adopt a child or entire family from your local angel tree. Several organizations like CASA have Amazon wish lists for ease of donation. Once an adoption is in process for a club, members who are fully virtual can participate by accessing the online wishlist. 2. Hats for the homeless: Key Club members can knit hats for the homeless and this project can be done social distanced. 3. Nursing homes: set up outdoor Christmas decorations for residents to enjoy, send cards to the nursing home residents, residents could be adopted for a more personal connection, hold a virtual bingo with your local nursing home, virtual christmas caroling, set up bird feeders near room windows at a nursing home and provide residents with bird identification cards.

Membership Drive Ideas (Covid-Free):

Snack Bag:

The best way to entice someone is to offer them food. Your local Key Club can put a bag of goodies together with a little note inside describing what Key Club is all about and how their involvement matter.

Social Media Advertisement:

A inexpensive and easy way to get someone's attention is to promote online. Your local Key Club can set a social media page to introduce others to join Key Club.

Posters:

You could make your own posters to advertise Key Club or download ready-made posters from Key Club International website here: https://www.keyclub.org/resources/recruitment-posters/

National Human Rights Month:

Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10. Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document that proclaims the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership regardless of who you are or where you're from. We come together as an organization with one goal to, serve others.

Outstanding Club:

The outstanding club of the month is Saint Scholastica Academy's Key Club of Division 13B. In the past month, Saint Scholastica Academy's Key Club members held a Teddy Bear drive for children in court cases who are going through divorces, abuse trials, and other traumatic experiences. The Key Club members donated the teddy bears to the Covington Police Department to administer to the kids. Saint Scholastica Academy's Key Club members are now participating in Division 13Bs yearly Turkey Train, which is an event where schools across the division collect food items to put together to make Thanksgiving meals for those in need.

Thank you for your service in improving the community around you and assisting those in need. Your diligent contribution towards service truly make a difference within your community and Key Club!
