Back to Scbool

It's time to get back into the swing of things. Waking up early, missing breakfast, doing homework and never feeling like you get enough sleep. It's time to get back to best friends,

football games and stressful drama. II B ginnings are scary, endings are usually sad; it's what you do in between that counts the most. So make every single moment last, because it will be over before you know i.1I .... Anony ous

People and classes and teachers have changed, but it feels like you never left. The same fluorescent lights, brick walls and tile floors. You're different, though. You're older and wiser. But, now it's time. Time to open your locker, get your stuff and go to class.

DON'T RAI

ON

This year's homecoming parade was cut short due of inclement weather. but Lamphere was valiant in their attempt to not let the rain dampen their spirits. The three-legged race, the over-under, the water balloon toss (not that we needed any more water that day) and the performances by the cheer and dance teams all went on as scheduled. A sad casualty of the day was the infamous green machine race, as the track was too slippery. Nevertheless, the hardcore students showed up bundled up in their hoodies and cheered their classmates on to victory. ~ Freslunen win? The new kids on the block came out on top in the over-under game. We better look out for them during spirit week.

Cheering their hearts out and attempting to stay dry, students sing and clap along to the Lamphere Fight s ong.

Our right brain friends love creative tasks that are hands on and involve understanding the big picture. These are our innovators, outside the box thinkers, entrepreneurs, and artists.

Eric Chung former Lamphere High school tuden t, come back to Lamphere High School and talk to the A. P. students about college life.

Think A.P. classes are all work and no play, think again! Mrs. Guzynski's A.P. literature students laugh hysterically as 56 they participate in the

Shakespearian Slam.

o~~e!S M,@f0---=====: A'PS~ Lamphere's AP course offerings grew from one selection to four this year. Now students can take college level classes and potentially earn college credit without having to go to CASA. "We've added AP Psychology, AP Calculus, and we've replaced Honors English 11 with AP Language and Composition," says Mrs. Guzynski, AP Literature and Composition teacher. These new course offerings allow students greater access to college level courses. Having more AP classes taught at Lamphere allows students to engage in a more rigorous, college level curriculum with teachers they know and are comfortable with which may encourage students to take a risk and enroll in an AP class. Many students can't or won't travel to CASA for AP courses because they have after school commitments such as sports or work. Also, sending our most motivated students out of the building for part of the day means that they're not here serving as role models to other students. Any student planning on going to college should challenge and prepare him/ herself by taking AP courses.

"J have always enjoyed challenging myself and admire students who wish to do the same with a rigorous college-ie¡vel curriculum. A good amount of self- study is required, so only the disciplined an courageous need apply. " Mr. Toma

"J really enjoy teaching A.P. Psychology and J am glad it is now being offered at Lamphere. Psychology is so interesting and fascinating and it especially rewarding teaching students that have a tme interest in a subject". Mrs. Uhlmann

This year's fall varsity cheer team was spectacular! These girls worked hard to pump up the crowd through rain and shine. With high flying stunts and courageous tumbling, these girls really sparkled!

I, In "We Got The Funk," the girls had alternating parts the four lines, creating a dynamic effect.

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain. " IlIlBCB CBIIIII 2011

After tryouts this year, the girls were not very close and were pretty shy. However, after dance camp, things started to turn around. By the time football season started, the team became a real team. They were more comfortable around each other and much closer than before. Along with having two captains, the veteran dancers also stepped up and push their team to achieve. The girls' goal this year is to become better and stronger as a team as they move on into Basketball and competition season.

It was an ominous start to the girls' varsity volleyball season. A week before the tryouts their coach found a new job and moved his family to Texas. Mrs.Uhlmann stepped up and took the coaching job. "I did it for the girls," said Uhlmann . Having coached every girl on the team previously, she knew it was going to be a good year. "I h.ad a wonderful group of senior leaders this year. I coached them in eighth grade, on the junior varsity team," said Uhlmann. Not only were the girls co-champs for the league this year but they also defeated Clawson, Cranbrook Kingswood, and Centerline for the district title which hasn't been done since 1994, the last time Mrs. Uhlmann coached the team. The key to the team's success was definitely hard work and talent on the part of this amazing group of girls, but also had much to do with Coach Ulhmann's coaching. Senior, Shawnee Joyce says of Oilman that she's "a person that makes lit all fun ." Three players were named to the 2011 Academic All-State team : Marianne Carney, Kelsey Meyer, and Meghan Versele.

Ma~~a..~~ Practice Makes Perfect This years boys team really beat everyone's expectations. They came in second in the Division Finals. Two of their members, one swimmer and one diver, Ashton Lyon and Andrew Lambiris, went to states. Ashton competed in the 50 and the 100 freestyle and took 23rd and 27th place respectively. A great accomplishment considering he was seated 37th and 39th. The secret to their sucess? Practice. Six days a week the boys get up long before school and they swim. Following the high standard set by their head coach, Tom Buckhiemer, the boys practiced hard, and it shows. Good luck next year as well boys I

This years' Lamphere High School Varsity and Junior Varsity cheer team came to win. Not only did these girls put in many hours of practicing, but they bonded with their team. The teams made sure that school spirit was at the top of their list. Competing was a plus for their girls because of their multiple top 3 rankings. Competitive cheer was a success this year, and the girls worked harder then ever! Congratulations girls!

Statistics show that only 3.1 % of all high school senior athletes will play college basketballl, 6% will play football, 6.4% wiH p,lay baseball, and 5.6% will play soccer. Only 14% of high school athletes will compete in college athlletics at the NAIA level, and an even smaller percentage wil l compete at the NCAA level. Nonetheless, competing in any sport at the coillegiate level is an accomplishment of its own. Lamphere High School has done its fair S'hare of producing college athletes. The graduating class of 2012 has added to the accolades of the athletic programs here at Lamphere with 9 different athletes signing Letters of Intent. With hard work, dedication, persistence, and determination to make it to the next level, this group of athletes have sealed a spot on a college roster next year. Regardless of where they play, what sport, division, or position; every single player will all have one thing in common. They al'l came from Lamphere, and willi all play with Ram Pride in their hearts no matter where their college careers take them.

Notice: Not all names are indexed. Despite our best efforts, we miss people when we index our photos; either we can't identify them, don't know their name, or there are too many students in the photo to list. We've used more than 4,000 pictures in this book and hope that you are able to find yourself in many of them. Thanks: To the 2012 yearbook staff who worked tirelessly to create a wonderful book. A very special thanks to the editors: Editor-in-Chief, Haley Fisher Co-Editor, Rebekah Mitton Photo Editor, David Thach Most Valuable Staff Members, Brian Tripp & Jay Junkin
