In my 40s I was autopiloting through every day with breastfeed premature twins, a 3 year old, a start-up business and the chores that running a household brings. I woke up tired, dragged myself out of bed, did what I had to, merely minded (not enjoyed) the kids, relieved when they were in bed before I started a bad night’s sleep to awake again to groundhog day.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS NORMAL, “It’s that time of life”, I told myself and got on with it. I WAS WRONG!
I learned 3 key lessons that changed my life so that today, I feel more energy and vitality than in my 20s: no more back pain, constipation or bloatingness, I sleep like a baby, have better hair and skin than ever, exercise more,play and enjoy my children – I feel I can take on the world every day.
LESSON 1: ‘Healthy’ food choices are not enough Overfarming, non-seasonal produce, growth enhancing chemicals and toxins – just 3 reasons why our ‘fresh’ food is not nutritious enough anymore. I found AND introduced more nutrient rich food to ‘fuel’ my body better.
LESSON 2: “Fix the Gut = Fix the Problem” The Gut Microbiome has tremendous powers and impacts your Immunity, Actions, Moods, Behaviour and Genes. I learned that my chocolate cravings were down to ‘baddies’ in my gut rather than my brain’s decisions. Taking steps to balance my gut flora took my health to another level. My programme featured in a Channel 4 documentary (link below right) receiving excellent reviews and client’s regular feedback are life improving experiences with lasting effect.
LESSON 3: You are Unique – Lifestyle advice should be personalised Your DNA defines how genes react to your lifestyle – food, exercise, environment. I NEVER imagined that the healthy food choices I made or the exercises I chose were actually wrong for my body’s blueprint, that the fresh (even organic) food I used did not feed me the nutrients best for me but could, in fact, cause inflammation. Nutrigenetics ‘reads’ our DNA blueprint so you know exactly which foods are good for you and which could trigger genetic dormant lying health issues. Science, facts – no more guesswork and all from just a bit of saliva!
