Week of June 11 - 15 Preschool Fun Camp A fun-filled week of games, arts & crafts, and outdoor activities. Children will spend the morning with one of our early elementary education teachers and engage in cooperative and creative learning. Ages: 3 - 5 Dates: June 11 - 15 Time: 9am to Noon Instructors: Margrethe Faulkner and Jennifer Sebelist Cost: $180.00

Passport to the Arts Come along as we take a week long tour of the world in this full day camp. Immerse yourself in the culture of 5 different countries through dance, music, arts and crafts, language, cooking and more. Have you ever danced the tarantella like they do in Italy? Have you ever tasted South African custard cookies? What are Milagros and why are they important in Mexican culture? If you have "travelled" with us before, don't worry. We are off to 5 new countries this summer. So pack your bags and get ready for a week full of fun and learning, but without the jet lag. Week of June 11 - 15 Principles of Engineering Design: Towers, Mobiles Basic physics will be taught as it relates to each objective, as well as sound engineering practices. Available to students who have completed grade 6 and up. This camp is substantially the same program as the first week (of a three week residential program) at a Center for Talented Youth site. The CTY program has been taught by Mr. Ringlein the past four summers at Haverford College and this is the second time offered at LCDS. Middle School Squash Camp Take your squash to the next level while meeting new friends. This summer camp is intended for middle school age students at all levels of ability. The summer camp is for both beginners and intermediate players. We offer a full day program for young players of all skill levels to learn and improve their squash game while enjoying fun days that include recreation and fun as well as a ton of squash. We will have guest coaches and visitors from time to time to help our players improve. (Price includes lunch daily and a camp t-shirt.) Forensics Fun Hone your problem solving skills as we observe, compare, and classify evidence and use logic and intuition to solve crimes. We will investigate the science behind crime scene and evidence analysis as we explore various subfields of forensic science through interactive labs and “who dunnit� activities. Topics include: evidence collection, impressions, fingerprints and hair and fiber examination. Ages: 10 - 13 Dates: June 11 - 15 Time: 9am to Noon Instructor: Lindsay Deibler-Wallace Cost: $180.00

Week of June 11 - 15 Kitchen Science Cooking is not just an art form, it’s science. Kids will explore real biological and chemical principles and phenomena such as respiration, emulsification, oxidation, and chemical reactions, by making bread with yeast, whipping up a smooth cheese sauce for mac and cheese, and learning the secret to the perfect cookie. They will discover what makes a lemon sour, and how turning the sour down in a sauce can make it salty instead. They’ll even learn the difference between soap and detergent, so that they can do a good job cleaning up too! Kids should bring an apron or wear stainable clothes, and be prepared to tie long hair back. We will taste what we make, and if we can, send leftovers home. Diverse ingredients will be used, but we will avoid nuts. Ages: 8 - 12 Dates: June 11– 15 Time: 1pm to 4pm Instructor: Juliette Winterer Cost: $180.00

June 11 - July 20 Plyometric Training Six week speed and agility development program. This training will utilize plyometric exercises, which are movements that require the muscles to exert maximum force in short intervals of time. The goal of these exercises is to increase power, which is a combination of speed and strength. Sprinting speed, quickness, explosiveness, agility, and flexibility will all be tested and recorded, too. Schedule for the six week program - Program begins at 10 am and ends at 11am each day. Each day the participants will perform a dynamic warm-up, followed by the exercises and a cool down. Each exercise will require maximum effort, followed by a sufficient rest period and the next exercise will follow. Each exercise will require multiple sets. Sometimes 2 sets of plyometrics, usually 3 sets and sometimes four sets. Ages: Grades 9-12 Dates: June 11 – July 20 Time: 10am to 11am Instructor: Mark Pedersen Cost: $250.00

Week of June 18 - 22 STOP MOTION Animation Art Did you ever want to make your own stop motion animated film? Here is your chance. Learn how to draw a storyboard, make sets and characters, use cameras and computer capture software, edit your rough footage and compose an original soundtrack. All you need is patience. Stopmotion animation is a process where a picture is taken then the object being animated is moved just a little bit, another picture is taken and another small movement is made. This process is repeated over and over until the scene is completed. The goal is to make inanimate objects appear to move and come to life. Throughout the week you will make several short animated films. Ages: 9 - 14 Dates: June 18 - 22 Time: 1pm to 4pm Instructor: Diane Wilikofsky Cost: $180.00 Class Limit: 10 Students

Sculpture Class Here’s your chance to work with a variety of media as you create sculptures in wire, metal foil, paper mache, and cardboard. We will also work virtually sculpting a figure on the computer and then printing it out on a 3D printer. Crafty Science We will explore various science concepts using hands on age appropriate arts and crafts. Daily topics will include: water and air, light and sight, motion and energy, reaction and matter, and nature and earth. Both a half day and a full day option are available. Soccer Camp Learn and develop dribbling skills, ball mastery, passing and shooting through individual drills, team drills and small sided games. Coach German is the Girls Varsity coach and has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he is looking forward to share. Week of June 18 - 22 Girls Lacrosse Camp This camp is specifically designed to teach and develop the fundamental skills of the game , throwing/catching, cradling, shooting, and ground balls in a fun and educational atmosphere. Campers will need to bring a girls lacrosse stick, protective goggles, and a mouthpiece. There are a limited number of sticks and goggles that are available to borrow. Lego Mindstorms Beginning Programming Build and program your own LEGO robots, assign tasks to your robot, control behavior and pass through obstacle courses. Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leadership for social change will be more important than ever in coming years. Whether the issue is human rights, resource scarcity, or climate change, this hands-on camp encourages young leaders to work together to identify the world’s most pressing problems and practice solving them. Our goal will be to create solutions that add more value or are more sustainable than those currently in use. To do that, we’ll study innovative people globally and locally who are trying to create sustainable solutions. Along the way, we’ll learn basic tools of innovation, organizing, and collaboration. Week of July 9 — 13 Stirring Up Shakespeare!!! Come join the fun as we tackle one of Shakespeare's favorite love stories, "Twelfth Night." In five fun and drama filled days, we will produce a 30 minute version to perform on Friday for parents and friends at 4pm. Are you up for the challenge? There will be theatre games, the show to put on, and also mask making. Come experience what Shakespeare is all about! This is going to be brilliant! Lego Mindstorms Advanced Programming This is a fun, advanced class using the powerful Mindstorms LEGO robotics system. Students will explore electrical and engineering concepts, build various robots with different sensors, and use the computer to program their robots to respond to sensors and perform desired tasks including advanced problem solving.
