VillageNews Village – Parking AUTOMATION OF PARKING The Village Market has installed a fully automated parking control suite. The new parking system is intended to combat the rising problems of parking and to free up more space for the use of shoppers at the centre, while controlling the cost of parking for drive-in shoppers. The system will come into operation on 1 February.
How to use the paid parking facility Step 1: Parking tickets are issued to all motorists entering the mall. Step 2: Ensure that you keep the ticket safely with you at all times. Do not leave the ticket in the vehicle. Step 3: Before returning to your vehicle, please pay or validate payment at one of the pay stations located around the mall. Step 4: After payment, exit the complex within 15 minutes by inserting the validated ticket in the ticket reader available at each exit point. Beyond the 15 minutes additional parking fees are applicable. Note: If you have stayed in the mall for less than 15 minutes, you must still validate your ticket at the pay machine before exiting.
How to pay at the pay stations Step 1: Insert your ticket where indicated on pay machine and read your parking fee due on the display. Step 2: Insert any acceptable combination of coins or notes as displayed on the unit. Step 3: Remember to take your change, if any, from the change tray where indicated on the machine. OFF THE SHELF
LOOK AT ME
Book Worm A quick look at the latest bestsellers
Author: Jennifer Egan Price: KES 1,620 Reconstructive facial surgery after a car crash so alters Manhattan model Charlotte Swenson that, within the fashion world, where one’s look is oneself, she is unrecognisable. Seeking a new image, Charlotte engages in an internet experiment that may both save and damn her. As her story eerily converges with that of a plain, unhappy teenager – another Charlotte – it raises tantalizing questions about identity and reality in contemporary Western culture. Jennifer Egan’s bold, innovative novel, demonstrating her virtuosity at weaving a spellbinding, ambitious tale with dazzling use of language, captures the spirit of our times and offers an unsettling glimpse into the future.
EAGLES Author: Anthony Dyer Price: KES 1,880 This book tells the stories of the fl ying exploits of four East African National Park wardens. These tales are not only about fl ying, for – reading between the lines of their logbooks – they tell of the adventure-packed lives of four dedicated pioneer conservationists. They are warriors and patriots. They are blessed with wives and children who shared their lives. Their many years of service to the National Parks, and to conservation in general, spanned most of the formative years of the National Parks of East Africa.
BEYOND WHITE MISCHIEF: The Memoirs of a Tea Planter’s Wife Author: Sheila Ward Price: KES 2,210 When Sheila Ward went off to RADA to train as an actress in the early 1950s, she had no idea of the stormy path her life would take. After a short career as an actress in rep, with all the joys of juggling different roles and the comic possibilities of living in grim digs on very little money, she met and married a tea planter and went off to live in Africa. Through Sheila’s diaries, life in Africa springs into sharp relief as she learns to live with snakes, bugs and recalcitrant servants. Sheila and her husband have four children and gradually adapt to a very different way of life. She meets the author Gerald Durrell, and Joy and George Adamson of Elsa the lioness fame, entertains fellow expats and learns to love the unique terrain of Kenya’s hills. But this seemingly charmed life is marred by a family tragedy, and a growing mistrust between Sheila and her husband. Family life begins to break down, and Sheila has to face the loneliness and heartbreak of living in a foreign country in an empty marriage. With a devastating honesty, Sheila Ward’s diaries document these diffi cult years, and her determination to build a new life for herself and face the future with impressive optimism.
