Mounties are hunting for a man with a distinctive tattoo, after the robbery and assault of a cab driver. by Matthew Claxton

A cab driver was punched in the head when a passenger swiped his cellphone during a December robbery, Langley RCMP say. At 2 a.m. on Dec. 13, two men got into a cab and asked to be taken to 196th Street and Fraser Highway, indicating they didn’t have enough money to go all the way back to Surrey. When they reached Fraser Highway and the Langley-Surrey border, one of the two passengers reached over the seats and grabbed the driver’s iPhone off the car’s console, said Cpl. Holly Marks, a spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
The Langley RCMP has released photos from a taxi in case the public can help identify this man based on his unique tattoos. Police want to talk to him about the robbery and assault of a cab driver.
The driver tried to take the phone back, and received a punch to the head in response. Both men got out of the car and ran away on foot. Both men are Caucasian, and the one who stole the phone and attacked the driver is described as in his late 20s, with short hair and a scruffy appearance. He had a distinctive tattoo of a skull on the back of his right hand. Photos from the camera of the cab are being released, and police are asking the public to help them identify the suspect. Anyone with information that could help them find the man can call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200, or to leave an anonymous tip, contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). The man arrested for a shooting in a Surrey convenience store is a Langley resident. Harpal Dhaliwal, 30, of Aldergrove was arrested Friday on warrants for criminal negligence causing bodily harm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm. The Jan. 7 shooting took place after two men walked into a Mac’s convenience store in Guildford, at 100th Avenue and 152nd Street. The men had arrived together in a black pickup truck at about 11:30 p.m., say Surrey RCMP. At some point, while inside the convenience store, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the other. The victim was taken to a local hospital by Emergency Heath Services and is being treated for a nonlife threatening wound, Surrey RCMP said. Dhaliwal lives in Langley, but after the incident police were uncertain of his whereabouts. Surrey Mounties thanked members of the public and the media for spreading the word during the three days they were searching for Dhaliwal. Anyone with information on the incident can call the Surrey RCMP and speak to general investigation at 604-599-0502, or to remain anonymous, call CrimeStoppers at 1-800222-8477 (TIPS).
