Dentro de la nueva información desvelada, quizás la más interesante sea que atañe a cómo han quedado configurados los grupos para dicha competición. Según explica la liga, se ha dividido cada conferencia en cinco bombos según la clasificación de la temporada regular anterior. El bombo 1 del Este estuvo formado por Bucks, Celtics y 76ers. A partir de esos cabeza de serie –tanto de una conferencia como de la otra– se fue dando forma a los seis grupos del campeonato.
La primera fase del torneo, la de los grupos, consistirá en cuatro partidos en los que cada equipo disputará un partido contra los otros cuatro de su grupo. Una vez concluidos los encuentros de la primera fase, el ganador de cada grupo pasará a la ronda de eliminatorias. Ya con los clasificados certificados, los días 4 y 5 de diciembre tendrán lugar los enfrentamientos de cuartos de final. Tras estos encuentros, el torneo se trasladará al T-Mobile Arena de Las Vegas, donde se jugarán las semifinales el 7 de diciembre y la final el 9 del mismo mes.
The NBA officially announced the details for the In-Season Tournament, a brand new event that will have its inaugural competition during the 2023-24 season. After much discussion and planning, the In-Season Tournament is finally real.
There are two parts to the In-Season Tournament: the group stage and the knockout rounds. Every team was randomly drawn into a group of five teams within their conference. They will play four group stage games, facing each team in their group once. The six group winners will advance to the knockout rounds along with two “wild card” teams -- the team in each conference with the best record in the group stage games that did not win its group. The knockout rounds will be single elimination.
Every group stage game and the quarterfinals and semifinals will count as regular season games. The quarterfinals will be played in market with the higher-seeded team hosting, while the semifinals and championship will be played at a neutral location in Las Vegas. The championship game will not count as a regular season game.
