Mexico Authorities Rescue 172 Migrants Locked in Truck Cab, Including 27 Unaccompanied Minors

MÉXICO (La Opinión) --- El Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) en México rescató a 172 migrantes de diferentes nacionalidades que fueron abandonados en la caja de un tractocamión en la carretera Jáltipan-Cosoleacaque en el estado de Veracruz, al sur del país.

Según la identificación de los viajeros, se trata de 105 personas originarias de Guatemala y Honduras que conforman 44 núcleos familiares; 27 menores de edad no acompañados de Guatemala, Honduras y Ecuador, y 40 adultos solos de Guatemala, Bangladesh, Honduras y Ecuador.

Al momento de ser localizados y rescatados, las personas extranjeras relataron que tuvieron que desprender varias láminas del techo de la caja del camión para poder tomar aire, ya que viajaban hacinados y comenzaban a tener síntomas de asfixia.

Ante tal situación y con el auxilio de elementos de Protección Civil y policías del estado, los Agentes Federales de Migración trasladaron a las personas en contexto de movilidad a la sede de la Policía Estatal para proporcionarles agua, alimento y ser revisa- dos por personal médico.

Según especialistas, esta escena es cada vez más común, pues las personas deben superar una serie de obstáculos peligrosos, en su afán de llegar a Estados Unidos.

En muchos casos, los viajeros ponen en riesgos sus integridades físicas, así como la posibilidad de llevar su viaje a buen puerto.

Ya sean la fauna salvaje, las inclemencias geográficas, o la presencia del narcotráfico y crimen organizado, los migrantes atraviesan un denso entramado de circunstancias materiales que amenazan sus derechos y sus vidas.

MEXICO (The Limited Times) --- According to a statement from the National Institute of Migration, the migrants reported that they had to detach sheets from the roof of the truck’s cab to be able to take air “because they were traveling overcrowded and began to have symptoms of suffocation.”

The National Institute of Migration (INM) found 172 migrants of different nationalities who on Friday afternoon were abandoned in the bed of a truck on the Jáltipan-Cosoleacaque highway in the state of Veracruz.

Of the 172 migrants, 105 are from Guatemala and Honduras who were traveling in families; authorities also secured 27 unaccompanied minors from Guatemala, Honduras and Ecuador, and 40 single adults from Guatemala, Bangladesh, Honduras and Ecuador.

According to a statement from the INM, the migrants reported that they had to detach several sheets from the roof of the truck’s cab to be able to take air “because they were traveling overcrowded and began to have symptoms of suffocation.”

Because of that, Civil Protection officials, state police and immigration agents transferred people to the state police headquarters to provide them with water, food and be checked by medical personnel.

The authorities affirmed that unaccompanied minors and those who make up the family groups will be under the guardianship of the System for the Integral Development of the Family, and “in the case of women and single adults, the corresponding administrative procedures will be initiated.”
