The rooms are created for the people to go release their burdens but hinder the people from understanding them that the idea of not accepting who you are or how you feel publically but privately became rooted in the mind. People there lack the freedom and courage to express their feelings in public. Dealing and understanding the emotions one has is not always easy as finding a solution to an equation. Looking into the possibilities that could occur within an office building, I try to explore the situations in which interactions could occur. Interactions for business or for friendship within the producers, the office workers, and the outsiders are demonstrated by having them meet in different areas of the building. These areas differ in privacy and accessibility depending on the individual. The elevator (two grey areas) is also shown on the diagram as a circulation route and also a space that holds unintended interaction. On the bottom diagram, I also observe the culture of the site, looking at korean business etiquette as a basis for understanding the multiple elements that play a part in creating interactions within a space. Cheonggyecheon is a 5.8 km creek flowing west to east through downtown Seoul, and then meeting Jungnangcheon, which in turn connects to the Han River and empties into the Yellow Sea. migrated into Seoul to make their living and settled down along the stream in shabby makeshift houses. The accompanying trash, sand, and waste, and deteriorating conditions resulted in an eyesore in the city. The stream was covered up with concrete over a 20 year period starting in 1958, and a 5.6 km-
elevated highway was built over it. The stream was named Gaecheon (“open stream”) after the first refurbishment project to construct a drainage system during the Joseon Dynasty. The work, which included dredging and bolstering the banks of the stream and building the bridges, was carried out every 2~3 years during this period from the reign of

long, 16 m-wide elevated highway was completed in 1976. The area became an example of successful industrialization and modernization of South Korea. In July 2003, then-Seoul mayor, Lee Myung-bak initiated a project to remove the elevated highway and restore the stream. It was a major undertaking as not only did the highway have to be removed, but as years of neglect and development had left the stream nearly totally dry, 120,000 tons of water were to be pumped in daily from the Han River, its tributaries, and groundwater from subway stations. [3] At that time, safety problems also occurred due to the deteriorated concrete construction. Despite this, restoration of Cheonggyecheon was Page 30
deemed important as it fit in with the movement to re-introduce nature to the city and to promote a more eco-friendly urban design. Other goals of the project were to restore the history and culture of the region, which had been lost for 30 years, and to revitalize the economy of the metropolis, Seoul.

Seoul station is a major railway station in Seoul, South Korea. Seoul station is the center of transportation. There are subway station, train station and Bus station in walking range. However in front there is a wide road where public transportation such as buses and taxi pass by and also private transportation. Attached to the station, it is Lotte Mart which is a big company in South Korea. Further, the old station sits on the other side of the seoul station, it is now a museum for art exhibition. Across the road, there is a hotel called Seoul Plaza. The site was selected according to its physicallity accessibility and surrounding.

Seoul Station drawing
I studied Seoul Station by putting camera on timelapse focusing on people’s destination from the certain position and people’s behavior in each space in which those information can implement my project.

Page 55
On camera1 it can be seen from the site that the multipurpose public ground is empty. Whereas some stay in the shade of subway roof all day long. On camera2 focuses on people’s destination from Seoul station, At day time most people walk across however in prime time people would catch public transportation including buses and taxi.

on Camera4, focusing on people’s behaviour and their pace once they get off the train and get on the train. It results that people would rush out of the train while people who are waiting to get on the train would be more calm. The platform provides wide staircase shaded by facade that somehow turn into people’s comfortable sitting zone. From the site analysis, i saw opportunities that could implement my project. The next study will go deeper into site detail of Seoul city including the platform.

Inside the seoul station, it consist of 2 floors. Floor1 is mainly where the passengers buy tickets, the space is usually packed with busy people. One the second floor, there are restaurants. Both 2 floors are attached to Lotte Mart, a shopping mall. The train platform of Seoul station is an interesting space that can possibly turn into performance stage. The structure is mainly steel structure. The columns are in tree shapes that are attached and supporting the truss structure. The truss structure holds polycarbonate roof that allows light to penetrate in during the day and the spot lights would be turned on at night time. There are 14 train tracks that various type of train stops by. The staircase is facing the platform and with its width people can easy circulate through it. The sequential circulation from multipurpose ground to inside the station to platform creates a dynamic feeling as it changes its physicallity, atmosphere and pace. From an open outdoor space into a big space packed with rushing people and then to an open stage of trains.
