Maria Adriana Gutierrez Sosa: Representing Latino Excellence in Community Services

Representing Latino Excellence in Community Services

Maria Adriana Sosa has spent her career helping the San Diego community with resources and building partnerships that connect organizations to others that can benefit from their services. For the past 30 years, she has worked in community development and counseling with several non-profit organizations that provide social services programs for youth and adults in Southern California.

She is always collaborating with stakeholders, community-based organizations, and funders and has been a focus of her work in the community. She passes resources and opportunities to help others.

She is on several boards with organizations that serve the most vulnerable communities that work tirelessly to help with food insecurity, human trafficking, and helping our reentry community with support, training, and educational resources so they can give back to the communities they hurt. She believes in second chances and understands trauma can affect our lives in many ways.

I believe having lived experience and collaborating with people in the community gives you the power to change and see people where they are.

She doesn’t want to make excuses about why she doesn’t have all the letters behind her name. What she does have is heart and kindness and listening qualities.

“My biggest suggestion to all is do your best every day and treat all people with respect and dignity,” she says.

Her work experience is long, and her accomplishments are many but seeing people keeping HOPE when they are desperate to be heard is the most rewarding. We all have the power to listen.

She currently works for CVS Health, Aetna – her new role is Field Sales Rep. for MEDICARE. She is excited to work with the senior population because of the knowledge and experience they have, which can help many. Within the last 5 years, she has worked with the Medi-cal/ Medicaid population which gave her many opportunities to create programs that align keeping the Social Determinates of Health in focus.

Maria Adriana attended San Diego State University has her degree in Human Resources and currently working on a degree in Public Health. She graduated from the MANA Leadership Training Program and was a COVID-19 contact tracing for 12 months. Her passion and purpose for her community and community health workers speak for herself and the relationships she has built.

In her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with her family, and volunteering. She has four adult children and two grandchildren and is a San Diego Native born and raised in North Park.
