The twisted house
Based on the novel The Wild Sheep Chase from Haruki Murakami
In the north of Japan, known as Hokkaido, tortuous roads up the mountains lead you to a house located in the middle of the sheep pasture. There is a beeline to follow through the pasture, if you prefer. From distance, it is difficult to tell how big that traditional house is. But once you get closer, you realize that it is about a completely different thing.
Starting with the idea described in the book of the two different atmospheres, the main impression that persists is that even dim and dark, this house is about a cosy place. It is a place closed to itself but has an intimate contact with the nature and the surroundings, bringing some of the feelings from the outside to this retreat in the pasture.
Based on the novel of Haruki Murakami, the house expresses an interpretation of several elements described on the book, such as the white painting facade, the red gabled roof, the four narrow double-hung windows on the opposite wall of the fire place, glassed book shelves next to the fireplace, even as its spatial organization.
The goal of the assignment was to explore our intuition in the designing process and bring to reality what is in our unconscious in all the dimensions, spatial concept, feelings, emotions and, mainly, atmospheres.
