International President |WELCOME Hello California-Nevada-Hawaii KIWIN’S! My name is William Sims and it has been my distinct honor to serve you as your International President. Serving as your International President this year has truly been amazing. The opportunity to travel throughout the world and other parts of Key Club International has been an incredible journey, and one I will never forget. Leading a board composed of not only the finest student leaders, but also the finest people one could ever hope to meet, has created friendships that will last a lifetime. Learning about and participating in service projects throughout the world, and seeing how you are making a lasting, and a much needed, positive impact in your homes, schools and communities has inspired me beyond what I thought was possible. DCON is absolutely one of the highlights of the Key Club year. We come together to celebrate past achievements, prepare for future success through training in workshops and the election of new leadership, and we enjoy the fellowship of old and new friends who share our passion for service. Governor Mikayla and your district board have been working hard to make this service year and convention spectacular. As you experience this weekend, I want to challenge you to meet as many people as possible, to learn as much as you can, to consider all the possibilities for service and leadership that exist through Key Club involvement, and then to take the education and inspiration back to your home clubs. Thank you again for your passion for service. I hope DCON will be everything you hoped for and more. If you enjoy DCON, and I am confident that you will, then please make plans to join us this summer for the Key Club International Convention in Chicago, Illinois. I want to personally thank you for making a difference through your service to your homes, schools, and communities, and I cannot wait to see y’all in Chicago! A friend in service,

William B. Sims 2017-18 Key Club International President

WELCOME |International Vice President CNH KIWIN’S SPECIAL AGENTS! I hope you are all as delighted as I am to celebrate another successful year of service with Key Clubbers from all over the district! Seeing Key Clubbers gather in one location to show their undying love and spirit for this organization is one of my favorite parts of district convention. In fact, that’s how I find my own personal devotion to Key Club! If this is your first District Convention, I’m glad you’re here! My passion for Key Club sparked at my first District Convention when I discovered the true impact of Key Club. I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone to take advantage of all the opportunities this weekend has to offer. If this is your second, third, or fourth convention, welcome back! You know exactly what to expect and how much you’re going to enjoy it. No matter how many times you have attended, each and every convention is a unique experience to share ideas with new attendees and gain different perspectives that you can bring back to your club. On behalf of Key Club International, I would like to thank you for the service you do and the lives you’ve changed. Through every selfless act you’ve performed, you have changed a countless amount of lives for the better. Whether small or big, your service to the community is truly impacting the world, making Key Club the true student-led organization it is. Your District Board has prepared an exciting convention. Throughout the weekend, be sure to attend educational workshops, cheer as loud as you can, make new friends, and dance all night (well, until curfew)! So, who is ready to solve the CNH KIWIN’S - Case 42? Will you have a “mission accomplished” weekend? Yours in Service,

Minyoung Kim 2017-18 Key Club International Vice President

International Trustee| WELCOME Hey, CNH KIWIN’S Key Clubbers! I’m Emily Rice, your International Trustee for the 20172018 Key Club year. I am so pumped to be here with you EXTRAordinaires! This year, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity and honor to serve the Illinois-Eastern Iowa, Nebraska-Iowa, and California-Nevada-Hawaii KIWIN’S districts. Along with working with my districts, I’ve served on the Service and International Development and Expansion Committees and have worked to enhance the service experience, make collaborations with our service partners more successful, build new clubs, and work to create new districts across the world. I’ve also worked with you and your district board to achieve your district’s goals! Now, it’s time to celebrate! Throughout this weekend, remember to appreciate the work you do and the people you serve. We are a family. With over 275,000 Key Club members and many more within the Kiwanis family, though, we are a very big family. Between all of us, we serve millions of hours a year! It’s important that we reflect on all that service. Remember to pat yourself and your fellow members on the back and reflect on your past year. This is going to be a great celebration full of reflection, learning, and fun! Make sure to come say hi to me and have a conversation throughout this weekend; I love talking and working with you all! I can’t wait to meet you all throughout the weekend. Talk to you soon! Yours in Friendship and Service,

Emily Rice 2017-18 Key Club International Trustee

WELCOME | District Governor Hello Grizzlies! Investigators, welcome to District Convention, Case 42: Search and Service! I am so glad that you made it! I hope that you are prepared for a weekend of fun, friends, and memories. It is very important to me that you enjoy this weekend. After all, this term was meant to be about YOU. You have worked hard throughout the entire term and deserve to celebrate; however, the district needs some help. As you know, there will also be a complete investigation at the Warner Center Marriott this weekend. The district is in a state of distress and it is important to close this case before the term ends. I am confident that, with the help of all of the grizzlies in the District, we will be able to get justice for our appointed board. By Sunday, we will all be able to rest easy (while suffering from symptoms of post-DCON depression). To kick off your weekend and get you in the DCON spirit, I have made a“DCON Bucket List”for your convenience. Feel free to add your own items too! DCON BUCKET LIST: ФФ Make new memories! ФФ Step outside of your comfort zone! ФФ Make a new friend (or friends)! ФФ Take pictures (but live in the moment, too)! ФФ Dance the night away (but be in your room by curfew)! ФФ Sleep (or don’t, I know it’s hard). ФФ Drink coffee (Starbucks)! ФФ Attend a new workshop! ФФ Ask questions during caucus! ФФ Laugh! ФФ Cry. ФФ Solve Case 42 ФФ ______________________________ ФФ ______________________________ ФФ ______________________________

Finally, a few things that I would like to leave with you even after this convention:

CNH KIWIN’S isn’t just a club, it’s an Ohana; friends you make here are friends for life, and don’t

even get me started on advisors (spoiler alert: they’re

EXTRAordinary). •

You have, do, and will continue to make a difference.

Find something that you’re passionate about, and do it with all of your heart.

I hope that you have the experience of a lifetime, I know I have! Technically, Sunday is the day for tears, but before I start crying - from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I love you CNH KIWIN’S.

Yours in spirit and service,

Mikayla Bisson 2017-18 CNH KIWIN’S District Governor

District Secretary | WELCOME Hey Grizzlies! If it’s your first year here, give yourself a pat on the back because you’ve made awesome decision to attend District Convention 2018! We are here today to celebrate another wonderful year of CNH KIWIN’S. I know it’s cliche to say, but it seems like this day would never come, and it’s just so bizzare to me that we’ve already hit DCON 2018! Although I’m feeling excited about the weekend to come, I’m a bit disappointed that this year has went by many of us very quickly. The entire district board, especially Convention Chair Larry Lam, has worked extremely hard for the past year for these few days. At DCON this year, you’ll be with your friends for an entire weekend, get to learn something new at workshops, and be awarded for your hard work. In addition, we will be hosting a talent show, governor’s ball, and various ice breakers. District convention is truly an unforgettable experience for many of us, and I hope that the next few days will be days to remember. Larry is a fantastic planner and a very creative person, which makes me super faithful about this year’s District Convention. This year is unlike any other, because this is the first DCON ever with an interactive DCON theme. I hope that all members, freshmen and seniors and everyone in the middle alike, will get to appreciate this year’s DCON! And finally, I still can’t get over the fact that I had an opportunity to serve on District Board this year, and my term is already ending. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and appreciate everything that Key Club has ever gifted me. I now have much more awareness about how I can help my home, school, and communities. Additionally, the secretaries this year have honestly impressed me with their eagerness to learn more and more everyday. Thank you to the entire district, along with our supporting Kiwanians, for everything that you do for us Key Clubbers. It was a true honor to be serving as your district secretary for the 2017-2018 year. Yours in Service, Holly Hugh Yeh 2017-18 CNH KIWIN’S District Secretary

WELCOME | District Treasurer Hello CNH KIWIN’S and welcome to District Convention 2018! I’m Justin Lieb, your district treasurer, and I am so excited for you all to experience the MYSTERIOUS weekend Larry has planned so diligently with the district board. With so many engaging workshops, educational resources, and energetic general sessions, this weekend will surely be one for the books, and one I hope will redefine your outlook on our amazing organization. While a full weekend seems like a long time, it will be gone before you know it! I encourage you to break through your threshold of comfort and meet some new faces as soon as possible; you won’t regret it. Woodland Hills Marriott holds a special place in my heart as the location of my first DCON in 2015, and it’s quite symbolic for 2018 to be a return to my ol’ stomping grounds. With my KIWIN’S journey having come full circle, it’s bittersweet to leave the organization that has given me everything these past four years. From all the friends that I’ve met along the way to the unforgettable fundraisers and service events to the members throughout the district that give my work meaning, I’m truly grateful for KIWIN’S and the role it has (and will continue to) play in my personal growth and impact on my community. To the seniors who are joining me in post-KIWIN’S life: I implore you to never stop serving. We are the future of this community, this nation, and this world. Progress starts through assisting others, and I encourage you to continue growing your affinity for service using your sturdy KIWIN’S roots, whether that means joining a service organization like Circle K or Kiwanis, or working independently to better the world around you. To the rest of you who are in the midst of your KIWIN’S journey: I hope you continue your path to success within our organization. Cherish the 2500-member-strong ohana that you have about you. Never stop exploring the opportunities that high school and our organization lend you. Success will find you by being kind and serving others. Brush your teeth and stay in school! Thank you everyone for making these past four years the most amazing experience of my life. I am honored to have served as your district treasurer for this term, and am excited for these next two action-packed days! Signing off,

Justin Lieb 2017-18 CNH KIWIN’S District Treasurer

District Bulletin Editor | WELCOME Hello and welcome to the 42nd Annual CNH KIWIN’S District Convention! Although you may be overwhelmed, I hope that you find time during this convention to find your passion for service. Through the activities we have planned for this weekend, elements of compassion, friendship, leadership, and servitude should inspire you to create a positive environment for the world around you. You will find that the culture we have here is what drives us to be special and important people in our neighborhoods and communities. You’ll also find that the louder you cheer, the more passion you’ll have; so scream! It is the first step to becoming inducted into what we all know was the spirit of our ohana! Newbies: Hello! Welcome to what will, I hope, become one of the brightest parts of your life. Through this club (that you will soon see is so much more), you will gain a new lense that offers a perspective different from anything you’ve ever experienced before. You will learn that CNH KIWIN’S will inspire you to grow in ways you thought you never could. The one tip I have for you in to engage. The more involved you get with people in our district, the more opportunities you have to grow, change, and inspire yourself and others around you. You will understand by the end of this convention that your individual devotion to this organization will create a ripple that will form swells of positive change that impact communities everywhere. So use these workshops to learn more about how you can get more involved! Oldies (but goodies): I know that entering this convention you may have mixed emotions. Happy, sad, bittersweet- all so confusing. The relief of knowing that what you have done has made others feel what you felt your first convention is what I hope you focus on this weekend. It’s crazy to think how much we have accomplished! The realization of this will hit you at some point during this convention and tears will be shed. You will always have the memories of the good times you’ve had with your Ohana, CNH KIWIN’S. Finally I just want to take a moment to say thank you. It has been the greatest pleasure to serve YOU as you have made my journey possible. You are a part of my family and I hope you know that your contribution makes me overjoyed and empowered. Your service and passion makes the world a better place! Thanks for choosing to make CNH KIWIN’S the recipient of your hard work, enjoy the convention! In service and spirit,

Logan Porter 2017-18 CNH KIWIN’S District Bulletin Editor 10

WELCOME | District Convention Chair Hello Kiwinners and welcome to the 42nd Annual district convention! I am beyond excited to see you all again and have the time of our lives here at DCON! District Convention is a time and place of reunion, a time to recognize extraordinary individuals, bond with new and old friends, and celebrate a wonderful year of service. We have faced many obstacles this term and experienced countless ups and downs, but with your willingness to serve and passion to succeed with this district, we have made this year one for the books. Take the time at DCON to reflect on what you have done this term and all of the achievements you have made. Now this year’s theme is“CNH KIWIN’S Case 42: Search and Service”, which as you have guessed is a in investigation theme. We have provided you with the video evidence and clues to solve this case at District Convention and bring justice to the final criminal who helped kidnap the appointed board. I highly encourage you all to explore the convention site and search for clues that will lead you to the final verdict of the missing suspect! DCON is a place where we welcome both old and new members alike, where we invite everyone to enjoy a year of service and celebrate our success. New members, find new things to learn and how to grow, experience the joy of seeing so many new members of the same organization you serve, and enjoy the experience this weekend. I am so happy and grateful that you have taken the initiative to join us at our most anticipated district event. Old members! You all already know the drill, have the time of your life, eat good food, learn and have a blast in the workshops, and enjoy the awards you have earned for your service throughout the term! This might be your next DCON and it might be your last, so make it count by really enjoying your time here with your ohana. I’d like to thank the Convention Committee really quick along with Mr. Carlos, the Convention Advisor for always being there for me and helping me create such a beautiful event. I’d also like to thank the District Board and Adult Board for everything you have done to help me plan and create this event. But my final thanks goes to you, the members who make having this role possible for me. You all propel the district to success and are the reason why we even have a DCON, so I thank you so much for everything you all do, and I truly wish you all have the best time here at DCON 2018! With love and service,

Larry Lam 2017-18 CNH KIWIN’S District Convention Chair 11
