Principal Ideas Welcome to April! Before going into all of the events upcoming this month, I want to take some time to recap some of the wonderful things that took place here at La Salle in March.
Courtney R. Kassakhian Principal
March was a month of transition at La Salle. On March 1 acceptance letters went out to qualified freshmen applicants. Accepted students were invited to a new family social organized by the Admissions Office and Student Life to get them excited for registration day, which took place March 9. All of our students involved did a fantastic job of showing off their Lancer Spirit and giving the accepted students and parents a sneak peek of what it is like to be a Lancer. And the accepted students liked what they saw: we had the highest turnout for registration day in over five years! We are very excited to welcome all of these new families into the Lancer Family.
Christian Service Awards
St John Baptist de La Salle
Did You Know? In 1717, despite vigorous opposition from the Catholic Church, the De La Salle Christian Brothers were the first established reliugious order of consecrated laymen and the first order without priests.
Also in March the Archdiocese of Los Angeles celebrated its annual Christian Service Awards honoring students and faculty who have excelled in Christian service. Two of our La Salle seniors were honored at the event on March 19: Maya Enrequez and Amanda Feghali. Maya volunteers regularly at Union Station, and Amanda works regularly with pet rescues and participated in an immersion program last summer in which she helped build a garden and playground for a school in Thailand. Congratulations to these young women who are truly living out our motto of Learn, Serve, Lead.
Anxiety Awareness Assembly
In March we also had a viewing of the film Angst in a special assembly for the entire student body. Angst is an IndieFlix Original documentary designed to raise awareness around anxiety. The film includes interviews with kids, teens, educators, experts and parents. The screening was followed by discussion in mentor classes and then a parent viewing of the film in the evening. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to view this film and learn more about anxiety and how it affects teens. We know our teens face a lot of Principal continued on page 2
