Queen Sketches:

Crown

Snake gives her a more ‘snake queen’ look

Other than the snake part it is not very detailed and not very crown looking

Development

Columns ordered and sized to create corridor look

Development

Initially, I attempted to depict a snake wrapped around a crown. However, I did not like the look of the crown or how the snake sat. Which led me to the second back cover option which looked much more appealing.

Africa

Africa Ideas Layers on the horizon

Front facing snake

Grass and animal sillouette

Africa Sketches:

Snake

Best shape Facing forward

Africa Sketches:

Lion

Too cute

Casual motion Can see more shape of body for silhouette

Africa Sketches:

Ape

Best shape for distant silhouette

Too cute

Wont be able to see shape in a silhouette

Development

Initially I attempted to have the ape and lion closer and more detailed. However the composition didnt feel appealing and seemed too busy. Instead I returned to the silhouette idea and felt that was more effective. I also extended the setting to the back cover to make it a succinct piece.

Development

Cobras have ‘neck hoods’ that i planned to depict. However after trying that I found that it didnt look quite right. Therefore I decided to make it another snake with no neck hood

Development I outlined two heads for the snake. It needed to be details and realistic and found that both of these styles suited what I wanted. Eventually I decided that the left option looked more visually appealing.
