Font mood board analysis

Page 1

This is the font mood board I created for my magazine. The fonts I chose are based on the survey results I collected, and my target audience. The majority of responses said they wanted simplistic/modern fonts, so I tried to keep that in mind whilst needing the fonts to appeal to alternative people. Due to the fact that it’s a magazine which is based on punk, I wanted to include some distressed fonts because that’s one of the main elements of punk; things not being perfect. Also, some of the fonts are similar to the logo of one of the most iconic punk bands (The Sex Pistols). I think the fonts need to be reasonably simplistic to not take away from the content of the magazine. They don’t need to be distracting. If they’re simplistic, especially on the front cover, it makes it easier for people to read the text. The title/masthead of the magazine also needs to be the same font every issue so people can easily recognise the magazine. They know what logo they’re looking for. Subheadings can be more interesting fonts, but the actual main body of text in the feature article needs to be extremely simplistic and easy to read, since it’s also going to be so small.
