ROCKS AND MINERALS Laura Castejรณn mimaletademaestra.blogspot.com

ROCKS The Earth’s crust is made up of soil. Soil is made up of solid, liquid and gas components.

ROCKS Solid components: mixture of minerals and organic matter. Liquid components: water. Gas components: air.

ROCKS Weathering changes the surface of the Earth through: 1. Erosion 2. Transport 3. Deposition and sedimentation

ROCKS Erosion is the removal of soil and rock material by water, wind or ice.

ROCKS Transport is the movement of eroded material.

ROCKS Deposition and sedimentation are processes which deposit eroded material in other places.

ROCKS There are 3 types of rocks, depending on how they were formed. 1. Igneous 2. Sedimentary 3. Metamorphic

ROCKS Igneous rocks are formed when liquid magma cools. They can form inside or outside the Earth’s crust.

ROCKS Sedimentary rocks are formed from pieces of other rocks or pieces of living things.

ROCKS Heat and pressure deep inside the Earth can change igenous and sedimentary rocks into metamorphic rocks.
