Attempts I test printed numerous times in an attempt to make sure the pages were in the right order front and back. I would say I test printed at least four times to get the right order.

I went to PIP to print and bind my booklet. We originally printed everything correctly and in the right order. I first cropped every page and put them in order to be spiral bound. After PIP returned it back to me, I realized one page was upside down. I quickly went back and had them re-print it to re-do

this page. After this, I realized certain pages had the wrong color on it. However, I did not fix this because I chose the colors and sizes so that I could have bleeds. I think it looks okay without the colors in order but it would look more complete with them.

Thoughts

After much time was spent on the order of the pages, the content, the color scheme, and the design, I realized I should have spent at least twice the time making sure the printing process was perfect. I am content with my final project but still would like it to be better. Printing is always a tricky thing, especially in books. I very much enjoyed this project. I find books interesting. I had never realized how difficult the creation of them were. The amount of time that goes into the creation, not just the content, is immense. People give little thought to the binding or quality of paper, but it makes a huge difference. If the creation of the book is poor, no one will care about the content. If I were to do this as a career, I feel I would be stressed to the maximum. Although, I’m sure most people have more practice and time to put into the quality of their work. After all, it is their career. This project made me concentrate on one typeface and the distinct qualities that make it unique. It also made me think of how to design using such type. Frutiger has many variations to it and is great for typography use. This project also made me think about the qualities of a book. There are so many ways to create one item– one item that has been crucial to history since the creation of the Bible. I believe Gutenberg would be impressed.
