WELCOME TO THE 9TH ANNUAL TACOMA FILM FESTIVAL TABLE OF CONTENTS TFF is a celebration of independent film mirroring the diverse and eclectic sensibilities of Western Washington’s second largest city. Presenting live-action, documentary and animated short and feature film selections from the Pacific Northwest and all over the world, TFF prides itself on showcasing the connectedness of local, national, and international film.

This year’s festival will include over 100 different films all screening publicly in Pierce County for the first time ever! Screenings will be held at four different venues: The Grand Cinema, The University of Washington-Tacoma, Tacoma Community College, and The Museum of Glass. In addition to an intensive week of film screenings, TFF 2014 will offer a variety of interactive events including dozens of post-film filmmaker Q&A discussions, workshops led by local filmmakers, dinner and movie events catered by some of Tacoma’s favorite Restaurants, and more!

Philip was named Executive Director of The Grand Cinema in 2006. In the 8 years Philip has been leading The Grand its attendance has consistently increased and programing has expanded to include Tacoma Film Camp, The Tuesday Film Series, 25 New Faces of Independent Film, and The Classic Film Series. Philip’s favorite part of his job is researching and selecting the films that play at The Grand.

A long time organizer of film, music, theater, and visual arts events in Tacoma, Lisa has been a projectionist at The Grand since 2004. She also works as costumer, stylist and props assistant for film, dance and stage projects. In addition to her service to the arts community, Lisa also serves as the Events and Development Coordinator at The Rainbow Center.
Rosalind is the author of short stories and plays: “The New Orleans Monologues,” “1620 Bank Street,” and “Under The Circumstances,” screenplays: “Stones In My Passway,” “Le Cirque Noir,” and “Tootie Pie,” a short film. She is a member of Sandra Cisneros’ Macondo Writers Workshop and recently directed August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come And Gone” at Broadway Center For The Performing Arts. Rosalind is currently writing short stories, essays and a novel.

LEONARD MALTIN is one of the most recognized and respected film critics and historians of our time. He appears regularly on Entertainment Tonight, Turner Classic Movies, Reelz Channel, Comcast Cable and is the former host of the movie review program Hot Ticket. He has also hosted, written and co-produced a number of television and home video documentary specials on film. Additionally, Maltin is the author of several mainstream books on cinema and an accomplished freelancer and lecturer. Born in New York City in 1950, Maltin credits the huge volume of old movies shown on New York television - and access to the City’s famous revival theaters, as well as the Museum of Modern Art with his “basic training” in film history. He began his writing career at age 15,

As an author, Maltin is best known for Leonard Maltin’s Movie and Video Guide, a compendium of constantly updated synopses and interesting film trivia that has been annually published since 1969, but he has also penned several other highly regarded works, including The Whole Film Sourcebook, Leonard 34
Maltin’s Movie Encyclopedia, Of Mice and Magic: A History of American Animated Cartoons and The Best 151 Movies You’ve Never Seen. In addition to his signature work in television, Maltin is also a prolific freelance writer, whose articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The London Times, Smithsonian, TV Guide, Esquire, The Village Voice, American Film, Oxford University Press, and American National Biography. Maltin is a voting member of the National Film Registry, the former president of the Los
Angeles Film Critics Association, and in 2006 was named by the Librarian of Congress to join the Board of Directors of the National Film Preservation Foundation. A long-time film professor and touring lecturer, Maltin teaches film courses at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and formally taught at the New School for Social Research in New York City. Maltin and his wife Alice have been married since 1975 and reside in Los Angeles.
