The Artist Paul Robinson Working across various mediums including painting, photography and installation, his work hints at abstract expressionism infused with the explosive energy and bold colour of Pop and Urban Art. Exploring existential subjects within a contemporary feel his work stands alone in its composition and provoking content and subject matter. Robinson sells and exhibits his work globally, highlights include London, New York, Dubai, Hong Kong & Berlin. He has exhibited alongside internationally renowned artists including Picasso, Banksy, Warhol & Hirst. “The complexity of Robinson’s imagery and overlaying of pattern has been informed by the work of Robert Rauschenberg. Robinson paints a world, which joins Christopher Wool’s fabric paintings with a 1970’s Peter Phillips pop landscape. These images are reminiscence of dream sequences from 1960’s films; a drug trip depicted in solarisation photography where the image recorded is wholly or partially reversed in tone.” Martin Maloney
Decadence ‘Decadence’ examines and celebrates corroded patterned surfaces. Fundamental to this project is the appropriated wallpaper pattern. Through a process of digital reconstruction, I recreated the repetitive pattern which decorated my childhood living room for almost twenty-five years. I then replicated the pattern onto carefully selected surfaces through controlled experiments. These were carried out over unregulated durations of time, using a variety of materials, methods, catalysts and utensils. I describe the practice as ‘artificial decay’, as repeating factors affect the work, much like seasonal elements would affect a surface naturally.
Select Work From Decadence Series
Limited Edition signed prints I wanted to create a body of work which would allow me to experiment with surface, texture and colour. With this in mind I created a limited edition series of 25 unique prints, each one has a completely different background which was hand painted using a variety of mark making techniques. Ink, acrylics and aerosols were used on Somerset White Satin Paper and each one is catalogued, signed & numbered. The prints from this series were snapped up at my exhibition opening on Brompton Road.
