The Pink Bear ‘The Pink Bear’ has transformed a distant childhood memory of mine, by removing the bear from the context of a family portrait which remained for years in my mother’s bedroom draw - and placing it into surroundings similar to that of a real bear. In the forest the bear is no longer a mascot for a theme park or TV show but becomes a mystical figure of a fantasy make believe world. The Pink Bear is not a man in a costume, it is an alter ego. The partially costume dressed figure is the transformation between reality and make believe, innocence and corruption. The pink bear has a whimsical sense of playfulness through its association with childhood memories, yet remains firmly attached to adulthood through the tainted surfaces that surround the character in the abstract spaces of the artworks.

LIVE ART Unveiling and Live Art The Moxy Hotel’s Opening Party Paul Robinson submitted a proposal through Talent house to create a Pink Bear artwork for the Moxy Ostbahnhof Hotel as part of their brand launch. The proposal was accepted and the artwork is not hanging pride of place in their lobby. For the hotel’s opening party, Paul and his team created a live art performance where the Pink Bear seamlessly played into the night’s theme of transforming the hotel into “a sensual labyrinth” celebrating Berlin’s unique style and alternative art scene.

ART EVENT PAUL’S ARTWORK SKOG 42 Evenlyn Engle, the owner and creative mind behind the German fashion boutique SKOG42, first fell in love with Paul Robinson’s Pink Bear after seeing his mural at the exclusive London VIP club, DSTRKT. She reached out and a collaboration soon came into the works. Paul created a mural for SKOG42that spans the shop’s tallest wall and overlooks the large architecturallyastute open spaces. The focal point of the work is Paul’s Pink Bear, which represents innocence and playfulness and easily obscures the line between reality and fantasy. Within the boutique’s walls the mural provides an intriguing dynamic between art and fashion.
