HOFFMANN

Uno Hoffmann was born in 1955 in Canada but raised in Stockholm for the first few years of his life. He studied architecture at the University of Toronto, after attending the University of Tel Aviv. He began his painting career prior to his studies in architecture, and his first major solo exhibition was at the Museum of Modern Art (Museu Gulbenkian) when he was 24 years old. Hoffmann’s background in architecture, printmaking, design, film and photography inform his art. His explorations in photography resulted in a number of collaborations with established photographers, illustrators, and writers, including Yuri Dojc, Paul Borges, and Steven Maier. His paintings merge American Abstract Expressionism with Modern European Neo-Expressionism. Uno Hoffmann has had numerous solo exhibitions worldwide, including at the Museum of Modern Art Stockholm, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona and the Geffen Contemporary Art Museum.
