T E S S E L AT I O N S TO TOWE R S Folded plates explore the relationship be tween planes, surfaces, and volumes. I spent a month with the folded plate, Flower Tower, by Chris Palmer, becoming fascinated with its ability to transform f rom its tessellation found in its folding pattern. The pattern repeated creates a complex network with many struc tural capabilities such as the ability to collapse and open up. By folding the tower, I was able to transform these aspec ts of its struc ture to the previous projec t , Metamorphosis, and the next projec t , Collapsing the Tower.
