Museum of contemporary art | Atlanta, Georgia form Composition+void
The massing strategy for the museume is a series of shifts in blacked masses that then create slight variations in the facade or major voids. The major voids are created to acheive outdoor space for exterior galleries and event spaces, which make a museum that extends its program into the public realm of atlanta.

Entry Extension
The ground floor mass extends towards the west end of the site, to crheate an entry acess into the museum.
Extension+void
The mass containing the auditorium extends laterally towards the south end of site, creating a void on the ground plane and a smaller void above the ground floor mass.
3
Pull back+void
The third mass pulls back from the mass below, creating an expansive void, suitable for large gatherings or exhibitions.
4
pullback+void
The first gallery space pulls back from the mass below to create an exterior gallery space.
5
compositional variation
The next two galleries shift in increments of 5 feet and 10 feet to create variations in the facade, following the overall language of the building.
6
7
pullback+void
The next gallery space pulls back to create a second void to contain an exterior gallery.
pullback+void
outdoor galleries + spaces
The final gallery space and top floor mechanical room pull back to create a void that serves as a platform for extensive views of downtown Atlanta.
The white planes represent the spaces created by the voids in the building which offer the opportunity for outdoor exhibitions and events.

Service Core
The service core contains the elevators, one egress stair, and all restrooms. By centralizing this program, it consolidates all wet walls and vertical travel.
Back of House: offices, educational Auditorium Front of House: lobby, cafe, store
Egress Stairs
The museum contains three sets of stairs for circulation: the central egress in the service core, an auxillary egress stair at the east side of the museum, and two sets of stairs leading from the auditorium.
Circulation
The museum’s primary path of circulation begins at the lobby, first hmoving to the very top of the building through a series of elevators or the egress stair. From the top, occupants will then travel down through a series of meandering stairs within the galleries, finally taking the elevator or egress stairs back to the ground floor,
Lighting Strategy + Structure The building envelope
functions as the museums lighting strategy. By implementing a curtain wall and extruded metal panel system, there are a series of ways that natural light is filtered to produce a diffused environment. The light is limited by the perforations in the aluminum panels and then the light that comes through is filtered again through either translucent (white box galleries) or opaque (black box galleries) glass.
