MACHINA
THE DESIGNER FOR THE PROFESSIONAL PROJECT I HAVE DECIDED TO CHALLENGE MYSELF WITH A UNIQUELY DISTINCTIVE INITIAL INSPIRATION; MACHINES AND ENGINES.I AM CAPTIVATED BY THE SHAPES AND TEXTURES THAT HAVE BEEN MAN MADE FOR A PURPOSE. IN THIS BREIF, I HOPE TO REINVENT HOW MACHINES ARE SEEN WITHIN TEXTILES, I HOPE TO ACHIEVE A COLLECTION OF UNISEX FASHION SAMPLES. I HAVE STUDIED TREND INSPIRATIONS FROM UNISEX DESIGNERS; KA WA KEY AND MARTIN ACROSS. I WILL EXAMINE AND ANALYZE HOW MACHINESHAVE INSPIRED AND INFLUENCED GENDER ROLES AND I WILL EXPLORE THIS WITHIN FASHION. I WILL RESEARCH INTO KEY TRENDS OF LEISURE AND LOUNGE WEA FOR INSPIRATION AND WILL TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE TREND OF DESTROYED AND DISTRESSED DENIM. THIS FABRIC CHOICE SHARES ASSOCIATION WITH MACHINES AND HEAVY DUTY CAN BE CONNECTED TO “MACHINA”. I WILL USE THE SETTING OF SCIENCE MUSEUMS, SCRAP YARDS, GARAGES AND HARBORS TO INSPIRE ME AND DERIVE MANY STIMULI IN THESE TECHNOLOGICAL/INDUSTRAIL LANDSCAPES. THESE SETTINGS WERE CHOSEN AS THEY PROVIDED THE STAGES OF A MACHINE/METAL RUSTING AND DECAYING WHICH I PHOTOGRAPHED INTENSIVELY. THIS VISUAL STIMULATION WILL ADD TO MY DRAWINGS AND COMPLIMENT THE DIFFERENT PROCESSES; FROM EXPERIMENTING WITH HEAT AND BLEACH TO GENERATE DISTRESSED ARTWORK.
