Collide
Brief
This new brief involves the 3 themes of happiness, digital age and the internet, and the future self. It is a must that we create something physical and digital involving these 3 themes. I have developed 4 ideas to merge, explore and take forward. Outcomes are endless. “Show your ingenuity – be unique – make it memorable” Tips and key information I wrote down includes:
- Explore beyond chosen project parameters - Research - Methodologies - Experimentation - Prototyping - Synopsis - Strategies - Future – virtual or reality? - In 10 years, what will you do? Outcomes may include: - Posters - Magazines - Books - Photography - Advert campaign - Instillation - Illustration

Memories
One idea that jumps out to me is the idea of using memories and collections as a way to evoke my own personal happiness. As I am already a collector I can fetch tickets, photos, drawings, trinkets and such to show the positivity in my life. I could connect these memories to purely
travel and create scrapbooks from the places I’ve been to nar row t he focus of t his t opic. In this idea I can compare the ways of storing memories, analogue to digital and which works best when disp l a y i ng or showing your memories.

Sub-Culture
Th i s i d ea e x p l o r e s th e i nf atuati o n wit h subcultures and how this identifies a person. This topic is popular within social media as many create accounts dedicate to their chosen subculture or fandom. Within looking at this, I would investigate sub
cultures from the 50’s to now and now t o what cult ures will appear in the near a n d far future. I could create a book full of infor mat ion or comical illust r at ions of what typically is seen when b u m p i n g into a person of each subculture.

Quotes
I’ve noticed that many people use quotes to keep positivity in their lives, that a sentence can put a person back on track to what they were focusing on. Or they are used as a small ‘pick me up’ in someone’s day. Which ever way people use quotes, they are popular. My idea is to c r e ate a collection if quotes that I am particularly inspired by to make the project personal yet accessible
t o ot her s as it could inspire others also. I could creat e t his in a book or t arot card st yle which could be passed through a generation as quotes never become old fashioned. Quotes are also passed through social media so I can create a di g i t a l v e r s i o n of whatever I create to connect with the digital age.

Tickets
Th e f o urth i d e a is a spin-off from the first idea of memories. It involves the theme of tickets, “ticket to happiness”, a way of storing or telling the memories and stories through tickets. I could document memories on the tickets or create an instillation of them all. This could also be a way to show how a
tangable ticket can be a keepsake for a person and that e-tickets that are beginning to emerge lose t his aspect . I could also work out the amount of money I have spent on the tickets and explore the idea of paying for your memories and experiences. How we are paying to live our lives.

DEFINATE IDEA
My Strongest Idea After trying each idea out, I decided to merge majority into my first idea. I could add the collection of ti c k ets and q uot es into the book or map creations. I feel leaving out the subculture idea would b e b es t as th ere is danger of being too stereotypical with the way people dress, and the humour may be at other people’s expense. I want to create a scrapbook or two of everything that makes
me happy, including memories, quotes and memento’s. Or create a physical outcome keeping the same idea but explor ing maps, this is because for my digital side of the project I want t o t r y and creat e a website or interactive map displaying my memories from my favourite places. Not only will this be an int eresting way to display to an audience of any age and background, it can inform me places I’ve n ever been and want to travel to in the future.

PHYSICAL EXPERIMENTS
Experimenting Analogue I decided to start experimenting with materials such as impasto, pencil and pen.
I used impasto and the technique of applying to random surfaces and erasing the white paper remains.
I chose these materials as pen and pencils are widely accessible and may be used the most within scrapbooking.
These outcomes can then be blended in Photoshop for int erest ing effect s.
DIGITAL EXPERIMENTS
Blending To i n i t i a t e t h e scrapbook feel I want to create i n my final idea I decided to blend my photographs and physical experiments. The outcomes appear s o m ew hat p ri nt ed and not uniform which
seems to be a theme when scrapbooking. These short experiments if successful will be applied to my interactive map and physical version which is small scrapbooks that are attached to a physical map.
DIGITAL EXPERIMENTS
Inverts
When browsing through old p ho to g raphs I came across the negatives as well as the standard pictures. I chose to photograph these aswell for this exact idea. I inverted the negatives on Photoshop to
creat e an accur at e representation of the image but in the film strip. This effect looks rustic and unusual at a first glance, something I could cut out and add to my booklets and interactive piece.
DEVELOPMENT
Book Style Before adding any designs to final pages I experimented beforehand with what collage techniques and what paper size worked best with the map chosen.
Mat er ials I used included thread, type and photography. This short development gives me inspiration and a theme to my final booklets.
DEVELOPMENT
Physical Map I created a mock up of my physical idea to bring out what I had in my head to paper. The booklets to map are the size I plan to create but
the map will be an A1 size. My piece will come together in the exhibition space and this is the location in mind throughout the project.

etcetera-drawings This artist’s tumblr page displays some illustrations using sharpie or fineliner pens. They focus on people and figures which is what I’m
going to focus on also when using this technique. I plan to create small illustrations of bands and artists seen when I visited the location.

FINAL PIECE
Creating Pages Once I had planned what exactly I would put in the booklets I began to make them. I stuck to keeping to 4 pages and 8 sides to fill, the booklets then weren’t too think when they would be
attached to the map. I also added a gold inside sleeve and black outer cover. Each had this gold interior and black exterior to tie all creations together.
FINAL PIECE
Exhibition Al l c am e to g et her when I attached the booklets to the posters to display an interactive piece that the audience can pick up and look through. I made sure the thread was strong enough to be pulled and
handled. T he gold and black ext er ior theme matches the colours of the map which was intended. Overall I feel my piece worked well in this environment.
