La Divine. La Divine is a high performance fashion sportswear range created for my graduate collection. Designed primarily for tennis and other racket sports, the range takes its main inspiration from Mlle. Suzanne Lenglen, the french tennis star famed for her on-court fashion choices and agressive style of play that revolutionised the game for all the women that followed her. Terre battue, the playing surface at Roland Garros, the home of french tennis inspired the collections colour palette; a mix of black and tonal greys with a burst of burnt orange. The Art Deco movement in which Mlle. Lenglen lived inspired the style lines within the range Innovation is a key element within the project with high performance Schoeller and Eschler fabrics used as well as processes such as laser cutting and 3D printing. The London College of Fashion ‘Technology in Design’ 2014 Award was awarded for this collection. lauren teasdale.

“Lenglen made it a habit to wear an above-the-knee white silk dress and brightly coloured sweater to each match. She would match her colourful sweater to her ‘Lenglen bandeau’, a headgear invention of her own that was created simply from wrapping silk chiffon around her bobbed hair. This wrap, paired with her short skirts and rolled stockings, gave Lenglen a sexy and athletic image previously unseen before in tennis or in any other women’s sports.” (L’Etoile Sport, 2013).

Spinozian Secrets. This collection was chosen to be used as promotional material by Braun. The range, consisting of a variety of swimwear items, aims to suit different body types through supportive tan-through fabric and body-contouring cut out details. lauren teasdale.

Symmetry and Balance. Symmetry and balance within Braun products have inspired the cut out features on the garments as well as lines and curves found within Bauhaus style architecture in Tel Aviv, to create a minimalistic look which fits within the Braun image and coincides with Dieter Rams good design principle; ‘as little design as possible’.

Hidden technology concealed by a sleek outer. The concept of engineering, in which the technology of a product can be concealed within a sleek outer, is the main inspiration behind the project. To translate the concept to swimwear, the technology is within the fabric and the aesthetic design being the garment overall. In the collection, the fabric technology includes tan-through material, allowing the wearer to achieve an all over tan no matter how much of their body is covered, as well as bonded seams.

After discussions with Braun representatives, a decision was made to have less cut-out panels within the collection but still keep a relative amount of flesh showing within the developed designs. lauren teasdale.

After presenting the developed designs to Braun, basic one and two piece toiles were made and using dress making tape, the cut out panels were marked. Once the toiles were complete, photographs were taken and shown to Braun, who decided that the final designs should reveal more flesh than indicated on the toiles.

Fuerzas de la Nauturaleza. This collection was designed for TRU Sportswear as a new Elite fit shirt, working alongside Old Albanian Womens Rugby Club. The aim of the shirt is to highlight the wearers femininity within a masculine sport, with compression panels creating the illusion of an hourglass figure. lauren teasdale.
