PARRYWINKLE JAMES PARRY I was racking my brain for a fun intro to this week’s column, and with the ice and snow now thankfully disappearing daily and life returning to the land despite the recent freezing rain, I suddenly thought of the Pleistocene Era that is said to have begun some 2.6 million years ago. Erratum The Hudson Artists Association would like to apologize for an error in our ad which appeared in the April 12th, 2018 issue of The Journal. It was mistakenly stated that all profits from the sale of raffle tickets during our exhibit being held at the Stephen F. Shaar Community Centre on April 21st, 22nd and 23rd are to benefit Nova. The profits are in fact to benefit Le Nichoir Hudson. We apologize for the error.

Glad Maclean It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mum, Glad B.F. Maclean, on March 17, 2018. She lived in Ajax most recently, and previously resided in Brighton, Baie d’Urfé, Bramalea, Pont Rouge and Winnipeg. Glad was born in Dumfries, Scotland and came to Canada during World War II. She attended school in Winnipeg, became an R.N., worked as a stewardess with TCA, then Public Health, and as the Eaton’s nurse. Married to Gordon in 1953, they travelled to Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and back to Montreal, and had 6 children along the way. Missing her very much are Kathryn (Gerry), Jeannie (Nelson), Bill (Betty), Rob (Darlene), Beth (John), and Donald (Paige). Saddened as well are her twenty grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her in-laws Mag (Dal) and Donald (Barb). Glad has been cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Barbara Crawford Johnson Stewart Mar. 28, 1930 - Dec. 11, 2017 Barbara Crawford Johnson Stewart, a longtime resident of Hudson, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2017. Best known as Bobbie, she was born March 28, 1930 in Mount Vernon, New York. She lived in Bronxville in New York, Providence in Rhode Island, Louisville in Kentucky, Richmond in Virginia and Hamilton in Bermuda before settling in Hudson, Quebec in 1962. Bobbie was married to John D. Murphy Jr. from 1950 until 1976 and Leo James Stewart from 1977 until his passing in 2005. Mother was a lifelong Democrat, an excellent pianist, the life of many parties, a tennis player with a wicked forehand, and an adventurous sailor. She was a keen gardener, an accomplished potter and a seamstress. Bobbie loved cats and wildlife, frequently spotting herons and kingfishers hunting for food in Pine Lake. Her little pink house on the lake, her loving neighbours and friends were sources of great joy, comfort and peace.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Doreen Isobel Davey (née Mullan) on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the age of 77. Married 52 years to husband John Philip Arthur Davey, beloved sister to Joan Mullan of Hudson, Quebec, mother to Lynne Davey and Allison Ray (née Davey) and grandmother to Madeline and Sebastian Ray all of Oakville, Ontario. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. at Wyman Memorial United Church, 513 Main Road, Hudson, Quebec. Reception to follow the service in the Mullan Hall of the church. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are suggested.

Heather Gibbs (née Dey) December 25, 1942 - April 8, 2018 After a courageous battle with brain cancer, Heather Gibbs passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8 at the Montreal Neurological Institute surrounded by her family. She was 75 years old. Dearly loved wife of Harry, cherished daughter of Freda and the late Ross. Beloved sister to June (Calvin), Elaine (Mark), Ken (Cherry), Carolyn (Graham) and Martin (Laura). Deeply missed by her children Lori (Evan), Brock (Anne) and Chris (Martine). Proud nana to Matthew, Riley, Charley and Owen. Also loved by Rebecca, Dylan and Felix. A proud volunteer at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence, Heather enjoyed her lunches with “the Rendez-vous Club” and was an avid gardener and decorated member of the Hudson Garden Club.

Bobbie is survived by sons Kevin (Joan), Chris (Jude), sadly predeceased by son Sean (Christine), grandchildren Caitlin (Brett), Tyson, Keaton and Devan, and great-grandsons Neilan and Finnegan.

Visitation will take place on Friday, April 20 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the F. Aubry & Fils Funeral Home, located at 434 Main Road in Hudson. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. at Wyman United Church, located at 513 Main Road in Hudson. The family will receive visitors starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

A celebration of her life is being planned for this summer.

Memorial donations may be made to the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence Foundation.
