EDITOR’S CORNER

Rainbow warriors Kudos to the 23 mayors of the Municipalité régionale de comté Vaudreuil-Soulanges (MRC-VS) who unanimously agreed to the funding request for the development of resources and support for the LGBTQ2+ community in the region (see story on page 10). 0 ments splashed across social media such as #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter serve as double edged swords – they aim to raise awareness all while ! they have a right to perpetuate outdated views shrouded in intolerance. It could be concluded that by 2019, we would have evolved enough as a !! ! els would be on the wane. Unfortunately, advancements in technologi ! ! ƒ !! ' riolic views. The mayors are sending a strong message in their unanimity. As a large county, we will always have infrastructure needs, security issues, snow clearing woes, and public transit challenges but if nothing is done to ensure we all get along and accept each other at a basic human level then we really won’t have much of a community in which to live and thrive.

In Memoriam

Rita Whelan Fafard 1921 - 2019

La Table de concertation pour l'emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges :

Rita passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in her home at Forest Hill Residence in Ottawa on February 9, 2019. Rita and her twin sister, Noreen, were born in Montreal on March 24, 1921, daughters of Dr. Gordon and Edna Cassidy. Predeceased by her sisters Noreen and Joan. Rita is survived by her three children; Sharon (Gordon), Larry (Catherine) and Thomas (Alison). Seven grandchildren; Gregory (Navnita), Kathleen, Sean (Tara), Margaret (Alex), Jillian, Madelyn, and Caroline. Five greatgrandchildren; Ethan, Olivia, Rozlyn, Maeve, and baby Martin. Fondly remembered by Marie Hennessey, mother of Sean and Margaret. Rita will be remembered for her love of family, her welcoming smile and brilliant blue eyes. She taught us the importance of being involved in our community. Her door was always open to family, friends, neighbors and any creature in need. During her life, she cared for forty seven infants with high needs. She cherished her beach time both on Cape Cod and Ormand by the Sea. A funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church in Hudson and interment of ashes at the Field of Honor in Point Claire will take place in early summer. Followed with a celebration of her long life. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Rita’s name to the Ottawa Humane Society. Thursday, February 14, 2019
