Our government hasn’t referred to Hai ! 3 grants ‘all have AIDS’ and hasn’t suggested Nigerian immigrants should ‘return to their huts.’ Our country has not curried favour with a misguided trigger-happy despot. Our leaders have not imposed shortsighted self-aggrandizing policies that do / lies. And despite the litany of ongoing inani + ! ! 3 / 3 + try and inhibit the absurdity. For any and all of our shortcomings as + ! 3 , and to celebrate. Happy Canada Day.

For crying out loud I am a self-confessed crier. I cry at any 0 I cry at weddings, funerals, birthdays and I am usually a mess at Thanksgiving when I toast my blessings around my table. My 3 + 3 / + mom breaks down during sappy movies. They spent their childhoods smirking as I 3 , 0 @ , + 3 + ? 5 ,, ,0D I can honestly say, in this age of self-acceptance, I am generally 4 + 0 ; + + @ ''# # , / 3 }3 ‘ , I promised myself that under no circumstances would I shed a single tear. My daughter and I planned to spend departure day together , 3 3 , / 3 & + ?$ ’“D X + ! , { noon was thwarted by a faulty luggage scale. Packing for a two , @ 3 ! }3 4 3 Roman roads is not a task for the faint of heart. Just the work , ! + 3 never mind a redhead’s supply of sunscreen! We packed, repacked, removed items and then swapped out the suitcase for • 0 } 3 / ! / , }, , 3 + + + 3 + ! 0 + + 6Z ! 3 these so I sat across from her and made sympatric noises un 4 / / 3 3 , 33 0 3 + 3 + ! 3 + + + 0 6 } 3 !ie version of departure day I had envisioned but at least we’d spent it together. , , @ 0 @ , ! ,, ! 3 @ + 3 , 0 +

! , 0 @ , , my hands started to shake, I felt a headache brewing and I was 0 v / , counter without incident. I was prepared for a long line-up, I + XZ @62 / # , , – 1 + , 3 3 + 3 – @ + ––– + + ,, + + @ 3 + + – , + , 3 50 was the customary photo moment with the girls arm in arm. I was in grave danger at this point, tears welling in the corner of my eyes ready to betray me. Watching the girls say good-bye unable to let go of each other had me desperately admonishing myself to be strong. v + 3 + X@1 v 1 @ – ‘!

/ + 3 @ + 3 @ 3 + / ! / 3 0 1 threw her carry-on over her shoulder, hugged me for all she was worth and thanked me. I am proud to say those tears in the 3 / , 7 + of view. Then I absolutely sobbed right then and there in that crowded airport and didn’t care at all. I raised strong, independent daughters who have a love of life and are brave enough to strike out on their own and embrace it. I only have myself to blame and I couldn’t be happier or prouder. Tears and all!

Missing information sought for Vaudreuil-Soulanges War Memorial (Cenotaph) Rod Hodgson Special contributor

In front of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #115 in Hudson there is a war memorial, or cenotaph as it is more commonly known, the only cenotaph in the Municipalité régionale de comté Vaudreuil-Soulanges (MRC-VS). It is maintained by the Legion in Hudson and is located on Beach Road next to the Stephen F. Shaar Community Centre. Currently there are 48 names on two plaques of those who died in World Wars I and II. They had all been residents of Hudson at one point in their short lives prior to making the supreme 3 43 0 @ + , 3 ceremony last year that Branch 1st Vice 3 ‘ 3 ! Hudson cenotaph was the only one in all of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the local Legion branch is also the only Branch of

the Royal Canadian Legion in VaudreuilSoulanges as well.
