The Hudson Players Club presents One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Modern classic directed by Donna Byrne opens April 4

Terry O’Shaughnessy Special contributor

One of the most well-known stories in modern literature is coming to the stage soon when the Hudson Players Club opens their upcoming produc / One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest on April 4. Famous as a novel by Ken Kesey, and even more celebrated as a movie with Jack Nicholson, this story of

impressed with the actors and their commitment. They have really risen to the occasion. In the large cast are several actors familiar to Hudson audiences, among them David Anderson who plays Randle McMurphy, Lisa Vindasius as Nurse Ratched, Joe Dineen as Dale Harding, and an actor who is perhaps less familiar to the scene is Nick Fontaine who will take on the role of Chief Bromden. “Nick Fontaine will be new to Hudson audiences, said Byrne. “He is a talented actor, has an indigenous background, and is simply doing a great job. Byrne said she knows One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest can be seen as dark. “But there’s a lot of joy and laughter in this story, and touching moments. 8 )

In his graduation year, John married Penelope “Penny Head with whom he had 3 children. They lived in Montreal and in 1970 he joined the staff at John Abbott College CEGEP where he worked until his retirement 1995. John is survived by his cherished partner Carole Keyes, loving sons John (Cheryl), James (Crystal) and daughter Virginia “Ginger Haneisen, sister Susan Mallette and nephews Michael, Ron and JP (Christine) Mallette, and JP’s son Tyler. His pride and joy were seven grandsons Tommy, Curtis and Johnny Haneisen, Jack, Hayden, Charlie and Oliver Perry who all affectionately called him Grampster. John was predeceased by his father, Graham 1983 and his mother Florence Curtis in 2002. John’s love of travel and sports opened many doors throughout his life. Beyond his high school and college sports, John was a champion water skier with Hudson Water Ski Club, Chief Athletic Therapist for the Montreal Olympics 1976, and Athletic Therapist with the Armed Forces Heptathalon team. His work saw him travel several times with National and Olympic teams to numerous countries around the world. He also served as President on both the Sports Medicine Council of Canada and the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association. Skiing in Austria, the Laurentians and the Rockies were a passion for John. He was an excellent pilot and an accomplished artist. While living in Ladysmith, BC, John spent many evenings riding shotgun with COPS - Citizens on Patrol in that town. Cruising the seas with his family and going with Carole to California and Texas in their RV to visit them became a new love in recent years. John was a loyal friend. Even though he lived in many places other than Hudson, his heart never left that town. He stayed in contact with his lifelong friends there, continued his membership in Hudson Yacht Club and kept up to date on news by reading the local weekly newspaper on-line and following events on the Hudsonites Facebook page. After a short illness, during which he was still able to enjoy some of his favorite culinary delights of bacon and Clamato juice, he passed away peacefully. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held in Hudson this coming summer. The time and date will be announced later in this newspaper. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Vaudreuil Soulanges Palliative Care Residence Foundation at 90 Como Gardens, Hudson, QC, J0P 1H0 or www. canadahelps.org/en/dn/15276 or the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer. ca or by mail to Canadian Cancer Society, 55 St Clair Avenue West, Suite 500, Toronto, ON M4V 2Y7 would be greatly appreciated by his family.
