Hudson resident appeals for return of cobbler’s tray John Jantak The Journal A distraught Hudson resident is hoping to retrieve a unique 100-year-old family heirloom that was mistakenly sold at a garage sale the weekend of October 20. Jean Thompson said she’s absolutely devastated that the cobbler’s tray used by her grandfather to make shoes is no longer a part of her life, she told The Journal during a telephone interview on October 27. In Memoriam

Kenneth (Ken) Andrews

1930-2018

Ken, a resident of Hudson for 22 years, passed away on October 16, 2018 at the age of 88. Ken is survived by his wife Marinela and his sister Babe, brothers Lawrence and Michael who reside in England. Ken is predeceased by his parents Margaret (Peggy) and Walter. Born in London England, where he worked a short time in printing and advertising and after completing the military service in Singapore, he came to Montreal where he pursued his career in the same area of business. Ken worked at Reader’s Digest Canada where he advanced to the position of Production Director for 10 years prior to his retirement. While in retirement he joined CESO (Canadian Executive Service Organization) as a volunteer advisor and had the opportunity to bring his expertise in printing and management during missions to Sri Lanka and Europe. Ken was always a strong believer in human rights and was actively involved in volunteer activity with Amnesty International. Ken was an avid reader to the point that he reached a true expertise in some areas that interested him. Ken loved the sea and loved to explore nature and was a long time member of the Beaconsfield Yacht Club. No one who met Ken forgot his kindness, gentleness and sharp mind. Ken’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Hudson Legion Branch #115. Memorial donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation Ottawa. On October 17, 2018 at 3:48 pm during the first month of her seventy-fourth year, Diane Chesnel-Cox - Wife, Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt – peacefully passed away in the loving and caring arms of her husband of 54 years, Robert Lucien Cox, her two boys, Derek and Robert, Jr., and in the presence of her two remaining sisters, Evelyn Daignault (nĂŠe Chesnel) and Bernice Plante (Lionel Plante), at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) in Montreal, Quebec. She is greeted in heaven by the awaiting and open arms of her parents, Hilda Myles and Noe Chesnel and seven of her siblings, Nora (Louis Delorme), Theresa, Gabrielle (Normand Henderson), Leo (Nelly Gibson), Marguerite (Robert Gleason), Tommy (Denise Frereault) and Claire. Other than her husband and two boys, Diane also leaves in sorrowful mourning, her three precious grandchildren, Rachel, Olivia and Derek, her sister-in-law Jeannette Luther-Cox, her brothers-in-law Thomas Cox (Diane Delorme) and Michael Cox (Gail Diamond), Marcel Belisle (Theresa), Jean-Marie Roy (Claire), and all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews - by whom Diane’s life will be honoured and celebrated through their steadfast devotion to her values and traditions. Diane (a.k.a. Mom, Ma, Mother, Grandma and Didi) will be sadly missed by her many close friends from Verdun and the West Island, as well as from the Douglas Hospital where she worked in the Social Work Department for more than 25 years. The family and friends of Diane wish to extend their gratitude and eternal indebtedness for the professional devotion and the gracious care and treatment Diane received from her family physician, Dr. Joseph Yermus, her Hematologist-Oncologist and “guardian angelâ€?, Dr. Stephen Caplan, her Pulmonary Oncology Specialist, Dr. David Small and the always compassionate nurses of the JGH 8th floor Oncology Unit. A special heartfelt thank you and expression of sincere gratefulness is also extended to Dr. Andrew Hirsch and his dedicated and thoughtful team of Residents (Dr. Rima, Dr. Kilal, Dr. Sophie and Dr. Tom, to name but a few) as well as the nurses, the PABs (Junior, Greg, Marjorie) and all of the staff and team members of the JGH K7 Unit, all of whom, tirelessly and graciously, cared for our Diane during her last days. The family will receive visitation at St. Thomas More Parish, 980 Moffat Avenue (corner of Bannantyne Avenue), Verdun, Quebec H4H 1Y9 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018. A Funeral Mass will be delivered by Father George Oakes at 11:30 a.m. with a reception to follow to celebrate Diane’s life at the Funeral Home of Feron – Urgel Bourgie located at 1275 Dollard Boulevard, Lasalle, Quebec H8N 2J1. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you respect and honour Diane’s last wishes that donations be made to either or both of her two most cherished charitable foundations: The Jewish General Hospital Oncology Department and/or Dans La Rue. “LIVE WELL and BE TRUEâ€?!!
