Local matters Sixteen years ago on this very day November 7th, we published our inaugural newspaper. It wasn’t without its setbacks. In fact, I would go so far as to say it was : 7 / 5 6j * 8 dad, Joe, and pitching them my idea for The Journal ! ! * Your Local Journal) we quickly assembled our team and began what would be a momentous task. Former colleague Sue Filion and I went to ! 7 Z Y " * : got to work on everything else. On that fateful day November 6th, as everything was coming together, we endured a water leak that almost electrocuted our theneditor Pauline Naidoo. Then we faced the challenge of having hired a graphic designer who neglected to tell us he was legally blind. I’m not kidding. 6j ) ! / * the paper together by 5 a.m. and ready to send when our printer in Hawkesbury in ! # " ! PCs, only MACs. Huh? We didn’t even know that was a % 75 6 * band/IT guy to see how we could convert the paper soon followed. To this day, I’m not sure how we got it " ! 5 / ! # [* "* * " * was gorgeous. More than a decade and a half later we " Z * kind and high-calibre people now enjoy the dividends reaped from November 6th, 2003. We celebrate this occasion with a big ) the region. Thank-you for being along for the ride over the last 16 years. #! %

Power struggle As of press date, I sincerely hope every reader has had their electric power restored and that any damages incurred during last week’s wild wind storm were minor with no expensive frozen food losses. While we got * ! power out for only a day, at this writing my brother in the Eastern Townships is on Day 5 of hav * Y "* ! ! and a sheer sense of stubbornness. Though I thought it was an unnecessary purchase at ! ! _ * as the sump pump failed and water began to accumulate in the basement. Nothing says family bonding like holding < * ! * 7 * * ! ! " 7 j / * Y 7 ! ! / * " j / * gasoline jerry can somewhere in the back of the garage. ^ Z G 7 ! ˜ ! 7 ! ! / * " Z 5 * * ! 7 j 7 we were able to dine on a version of pizzas cooked with naan bread (and all the usual pizza toppings) in a lidded * * 7 5 G quite the real thing but enjoyable nonetheless. II as part of Veteran’s Week which is being held at Ste. Anne’s Hospital in Ste. 6 $ G " EE mark Remembrance Day. Veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War, and during Canada’s military campaign in Afghanistan, paid tribute to their fallen comrades. The families of veterans, Ste. Anne’s hospi \ Montreal West Island Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre which administers the hospital, also took part in the ceremony. 35 years of military service

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of Anton Jay Koreman, 35, of Kelowna, B.C., and Hudson, Quebec. Jay passed away July 9, 2019 at the Vancouver General Hospital. Jay was predeceased by his brother Matthew.

Michelle et Roger ont habitĂŠ la municipalitĂŠ de Hudson, pendant plus de 50 ans, et ils sont retournĂŠs vivre Ă Sherbrooke en 2016. Atteinte d’un cancer depuis 5 ans, Michelle a continuĂŠ Ă mordre dans la vie et Ă pratiquer les activitĂŠs qui la passionnaient : ski de fond, golf, horticulture, peinture, voyages, etc. Elle a peint sa dernière aquarelle 2 semaines avant son dĂŠcès.
