Free legal services for women


How we can help Her Justice provides free legal help in family law, divorce and immigration to low-income women living in New York City. Most of our clients are survivors of domestic violence, though this is not a requirement.

Her Justice can assist with: Family Court issues, including orders of protection, custody and visitation, and child and spousal support Contested and uncontested divorces Immigration self-petitions, battered spouse waivers and U Nonimmigrant Status petitions under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)

Services may include: Legal information, advice and referrals Brief services (for example, drafting petitions and answers) Attorney representation

To receive help from Her Justice you must: Be a woman Live in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens or Staten Island Have a legal issue relating to family, divorce or immigration law Meet our income guidelines

Contact us for help Intake by telephone Her Justice conducts intake of new clients by phone on Thursdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Call 212.695.3800 and follow the prompts for callers seeking legal assistance. After assessment, an in-person appointment may be made, if needed. Our staff is multilingual

Intake in person Her Justice has offices at all four of the New York City Family Justice Centers— Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. Women can walk in to the Family Justice Center any week day, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm To qualify for services at the Family Justice Centers, clients must be victims of domestic violence and either live in the borough where the center is located or have been abused in that borough Clients seeking help through the Family Justice Centers are screened and offered a diverse range of support services. Interpretation for non-English speakers is available During screening, women can ask to be given an intake appointment with Her Justice Her Justice staff is available only by appointment
