“My boy has food sensitivities. Now I feed him BLUE Basics and he’s never looked or felt better.” BLUE Basics® is a limited-ingredient diet designed to minimize the food sensitivities some dogs experience, while providing them with a delicious and nutritious meal. It always starts with salmon, turkey or duck — proteins not common in dog foods — and includes easily digestible oatmeal, rice and potatoes. And, when we created BLUE Basics, we were sure to avoid many of the ingredients that can trigger allergic reactions in some dogs. · NO chicken or beef · NO corn, wheat or soy · NO dairy or eggs If your dog or cat has food sensitivities, ask your veterinarian about BLUE Basics.

let’s talk shelves
I recently asked Ana how to display my family’s enormous collection of books. Her advice: Straighten up: Make diferent-size books appear neat by lining up the spines with the front edge of the shelf.
12
womansday.com

Stack smart: Lay larger books or magazines fat to utilize more space and keep your collection from looking overwhelming.
Add greenery: Swap in a small fern or a low succulent in a colorful planter to create a lively bookend.
Group items: Curate a collection by pairing a couple of candles or lining up a few decorative jars or frames across one shelf.

espite being raised by a highly creative mother, I am pretty hopeless at crafts. Case in point: At a recent brunch WD held for bloggers, we made the cute fondant bees from our May cover. “I’ve never seen Susan craft before,” one staffer said wonderingly, and there’s a reason for that. My bee ended up looking more like an armadillo. Decorating is another area where some people are just more gifted than others. Our home editor, Andriana Verdi, is one of them. I love Ana’s philosophy that decorating doesn’t have to be intimidating. She specializes in easy-to-execute ideas that make a big impact without a big price tag. In my own home, which I would generously describe as a “medley” of furniture and styles, Ana’s influence has given me the confidence to go for fun shaggy rugs in the bathroom and new throw pillows that instantly brightened up my old sofa; she also gave me the idea to put away half the appliances that once covered my kitchen counters (she’s a pro at decluttering, too). When it comes down to it, your home doesn’t have to be a showcase. Decorating is really about creating a comfortable space where you can roll on the floor with your kids, squeeze around the dining room table with your extended family and not worry (too much) about pet hair. Starting this month, Ana will be sharing her down-to-earth ideas in a new column in our home section, page 50. While she may not turn you into a decorator, she will help make your home a more beautiful place—to be a family.

Time-tested I have been a longtime reader of Woman’s Day and have saved many of the monthly menu pages [“What’s for Dinner?”]. Some go back as far as the ’70s! I keep them in a box near the bed, and often when I can’t sleep I look through them for new recipe ideas. This way I don’t end up eating the same food over and over again. It’s great inspiration. Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC)
“IT’S THE SAME OLD STORY. I’VE TRIED LAXATIVES, BUT THE CONSTIPATION STILL COMES BACK LIKE A HEAVY WEIGHT.”
Proactively manage your recurring symptoms with LINZESS® If you’re more than occasionally constipated, you may need something other than laxatives. Maybe it’s time to talk to your doctor about your chronic constipation symptoms, and ask about LINZESS, a once-daily capsule approved for adults to help manage Chronic Idiopathic Constipation. “Chronic” means the constipation is long-lasting or keeps coming back. “Idiopathic” means the cause is unknown. LINZESS works differently from laxatives. It is thought to work in two ways: by helping to calm pain-sensing nerves*, and by accelerating bowel movements. LINZESS may relieve your symptoms by allowing you to have more frequent and complete bowel movements that are easier to pass. Bottom line, if your chronic constipation symptoms keep coming back, ask your doctor about LINZESS today. *This was seen in animal studies and the relevance to humans is not known.
Who is LINZESS for? Prescription LINZESS® (linaclotide) is for adults with CIC. It is not known if LINZESS is safe and effective in children. IMPORTANT RISK INFORMATION • Do not give LINZESS to children who are under 6 years of age. It may harm them. • You should not give LINZESS to children 6 to 17 years of age. It may harm them. • Do not take LINZESS if a doctor has told you that you have a bowel blockage (intestinal obstruction). You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.FDA.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088.
Before you take LINZESS, tell your doctor: • If you have any other medical conditions. • If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if LINZESS will harm your unborn baby. • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if LINZESS passes into your breast milk. • About all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Side Effects LINZESS can cause serious side effects, including diarrhea, the most common side effect, which can sometimes be severe. Diarrhea often begins within the first 2 weeks of LINZESS treatment. Stop taking LINZESS and call your doctor right away if you get severe diarrhea during treatment with LINZESS. Other common side effects of LINZESS include gas, stomach-area (abdominal) pain, swelling, or a feeling of fullness or pressure in your abdomen (distension). Tell your doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. These are not all the possible side effects of LINZESS. For more information, ask your doctor or pharmacist. In addition, call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away if you develop unusual or severe stomach-area (abdominal) pain, especially if you also have bright red, bloody stools or black stools that look like tar.

The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler ($26.99; June 23) he twists and turns in this novel kept us on the edge of our seats,” says BJ Levis, one of the club’s members (top row, fourth from left). The story begins when Simon Watson, a librarian who lives alone on Long Island Sound, finds a water-damaged diary that once belonged to the owner of a traveling circus in the 1700s. One of the many mysterious entries tells of a circus mermaid who drowned— just as Simon’s mother and grandmother did. Fearing his family is cursed, Simon must quickly try to solve the diary’s secrets before his sister (also a circus performer) suffers the same fate. “The plot totally pulled us in,” says BJ. “It was like a puzzle, and we had a blast trying to put the pieces together.”

weathered door in a quiet Tucson neighborhood opens into the sprawling home of former U.S. representative Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly. The house is filled with folk art, mementos, awards and photographs of family mixed in with presidents and the nation’s leaders. A vintage copy of the Arizona Daily Star hangs framed by the door, the headline announcing the July 1969 moon landing. (Until he retired in 2011, shortly after his wife’s shooting at a public appearance, Mark was a NASA astronaut who flew four shuttle missions during his 15-year career.) There’s also a small model ship in a glass case sitting on a side table. It’s the USS Gabrielle Giffords, a Navy combat vessel launched earlier this year. It is one of only a few American naval ships ever named after a living woman—a fitting tribute.

Women in America are much more likely to be murdered with a gun than women in other developed countries. United States, she reels off nations— “Yemen, Mexico, Iraq, Brazil”—that have death rates from shootings that are thought to be on par with the U.S. Gabby has almost daily speech therapy, and a goal to be able to speak nonstop for 20 minutes. To demonstrate, she gives the first lines of a new speech: “I’m Gabby Giffords and I used to be in Congress. But don’t hold that against me!”

Gabby has traded stumping for very different activities: “Yoga twice a week, French horn, Spanish lessons, riding my bike.” She also spends more time with her husband. Before the shooting, she was commuting between Washington, DC, and Tucson, and Mark was based in Houston. Now, they go on drives in the desert, see movies and eat out often. They are both avid cyclers, and are planning to do the 40-mile El Tour de Tucson in November. That morning, Gabby had logged 11 miles on her recumbent bicycle. When I ask her why she loves to bike, she responds simply, “Freedom.” Gabby doesn’t appear to dwell on what could have been—the Senate seat that came open just weeks after her shooting, the children she hoped to have. Her desire to move on even extends to the man who shot her. When Mark asks her if she has forgiven him, she emphatically shakes her head no. “Do you feel

like you need to?” he asks gently. Gabby shakes her head again. Says Mark: “If what happened to Gabby happened to me, I would be bitter. I don’t think there are many people who could be as positive about life as she is.” As Gabby fought to get that life back, she and Mark absorbed the news of the Sandy Hook school shooting in December 2012, in which 20 children and six adults were killed. They thought about how they could help protect citizens—as well as the rights of gun owners. Their mission came into focus: The couple founded Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), a nonprofit that fights for stronger gun laws.

This spring, I sat down with Gabby and Mark in their homey kitchen. Nelson, a former service dog with a fondness for chewing water bottles, settled near us. Like many couples, Mark and Gabby have a sweet shorthand, complete with gentle teasing that makes Gabby smile widely. A conversation with one is a conversation with both, as Mark helps clarify when speech fails her, which it often does because of her brain injury. But by no means does he speak for her. Gabby can bring Mark back to a point she wants to make with a single word. The shooting, which killed six people and injured 13, left Gabby paralyzed on the right side of her body, but after years of intense physical therapy, she has made progress toward greater mobility. The bigger struggle is with expressing herself: The bullet damaged the part of her brain that controls language. Still, Gabby is clearly bursting with thoughts—her mind outpaces her mouth. Gabby’s attack and Sandy Hook were mass shootings, which garner the most attention, but ARS focuses on an even bigger problem: Women in America are much more likely to be murdered with a gun than women in other developed countries. Females face a far greater danger of being shot at home than elsewhere, and 55% of women killed by intimate partners between 2001 and 2012 were killed with a gun, according to the FBI. A study in the American Journal of Public Health found that a woman’s risk of being killed by a partner is five times greater when he has access to a gun. Although her life at home is very diferent from what it was in Congress, Gifords is constantly working for responsible gun laws.

Right now, federal laws prevent domestic abusers who have been convicted of felony or misdemeanor charges from buying firearms from federally licensed dealers. But these same people are allowed to buy them at gun shows or online, no questions asked. Mark calls this “a loophole big enough to drive a truck through.” People convicted of misdemeanor stalking may also walk into a store and buy a gun, under federal law. The solution lies, says ARS, in closing loopholes that enable convicted predators to buy weapons. One idea is to institute background checks at gun shows and other points of purchase. Federal background check laws work: In the last 20 years, the system blocked 2 million store purchases by people who should not own guns, per Bureau of Justice statistics. “If we changed our laws

so that dangerous people could no longer get a gun online or at a gun show without a background check, it would save lives,” says Mark.
living responsibly It may not be a role she chose, but Gabby is a powerful reminder of what guns in the wrong hands can do. She’s brought her perspective to leaders in Delaware and Oregon, and
recently helped ARS work to defeat a bill in Iowa that would have repealed its background check system. Mark and Gabby’s vision is not about taking guns from peaceable people, he says. “Gabby’s always owned guns; I’ve had a few guns. We both support the Second Amendment. This isn’t about responsible people who own guns. It’s about the irresponsible ones.” And the couple’s fight for gun safety can get personal. The day before I visited Gabby and Mark, the National Rifle Association posted an article to its Facebook page that referenced Gabby by name. Several commenters posted death threats against her. But the couple shrugs off such ugliness. In the quiet of her kitchen, I ask Gabby how she stays so optimistic about the challenges ahead. With steel in her voice, she says, “Get ’er done.” n July/August 2015 womansday.com

Place it upside down, then fip the luggage rack upside down and center it on top of the tray. 2 Use a pencil to mark where the top of the luggage rack sits on the back of the tray. 3 With scissors, cut the fabric straps of the luggage rack and carefully remove any staples. 4 Protect your work surface (preferably outdoors) with a dropcloth and spray-paint the luggage rack; let dry completely. 5 Hot-glue brass corners (from $2.99 each; at hardware stores) to the tray’s bottom corners. 6 Apply a thin line of Gorilla glue (it expands as it dries) to the top of the luggage rack and, using the pencil marks as a guide, adhere the rack to the tray. • Upholstery fabric • Staple gun • Two 3" heavyduty corner braces • Drill
1 Open the trunk and measure the interior length and width, then subtract ⅛" from both measurements (to allow room for fabric) to get the dimensions for the seat and the backrest. 2 Next, measure the interior height of the base of the trunk, then subtract 1" to get the dimensions for the seat supports. 3 At the hardware store, have 2 pieces of plywood cut to the seat and backrest dimensions and 3 pieces of plywood cut to the seat support dimensions. 4 Attach the plywood seat supports (they should be evenly spaced) inside the base of the trunk by drilling two 1½" corner braces (from $2.67 for 4; at hardware stores) to both sides of each support. 5 Cut 2 pieces of upholstery foam (from $40.23 per 18" x 82" roll; amazon.com) to the seat and backrest dimensions. Then cut 2 pieces of fabric (from $12 per yard; joann.com) that are 8" longer than the foam pieces on all sides. 6 For the seat and backrest, lay the fabric face down, then center and stack the foam and plywood on top. Wrap the fabric back (like a gift) and staple to the plywood. 7 Push the backrest inside the trunk top and the seat inside the base. 8 Drill the heavy-duty 3" corner braces (from $4.97 for 2; at hardware stores) to the back of the trunk lid, then prop it up at a 90-degree angle and secure the other side of the braces to the back of the base. 9 Add a pretty throw pillow and position the bench in an entryway or mudroom.

These old-school TV cabinets were built to stand the test of time. Add a simple shelf and yours will be a prime piece again. 1 Find an expert in your area (visit tvrepairman.com for help) who can remove the TV and its components from the cabinet for you* (it’ll cost around $50). Then, follow your town’s e-waste guidelines to discard the TV safely. 2 At the hardware store, have a piece of plywood cut to the width and depth of the TV cavity for a shelf. If you need to create a new back for the unit, have a second piece of plywood cut to this width and height; screw the back in place.
3 To install the shelf, mark your desired height along the inside walls. Next, screw 2 corner braces (from $2.67 for 4; at hardware stores) to each side along this line. Place the shelf on the braces and screw in place to secure. 4 Before you paint, wipe the cabinet clean and cover any details you want to preserve (think handles or knobs) with painter’s tape. 5 Protect your work surface (preferably outdoors) with a dropcloth. Use a foam roller and/or paintbrush to apply 2 to 3 coats of paint to the cabinet, letting it dry completely between coats (24 hours). 6 Use the piece as a bookshelf or console table in a family room or home ofce.

DECIDE WHAT TO SELL
Even if you think some of your castofs are of little value, remember that shoppers are lured by deals. Almost anything from necessities to knickknacks can sell if priced right, so give it a try before you donate or toss. What should you think twice about putting out for sale? Big-ticket items in good condition such as antiques, designer clothes, electronics and costume jewelry. You may make more money selling these on sites like Craigslist or at consignment stores. “Lived-in” items like shoes can also be hard to sell. If you’re not sure you have enough stuf, team up with a neighbor or two. “In my experience, multifamily sales get twice as much foot trafc as single-family sales,” says Jamie Novak, organizing specialist and author of Keep This Toss That. “The bigger the commotion you make, the more attention you’ll draw.” People will also shop longer, since they’ll fnd more deals in one place (just as people spend more time at a mall than at stand-alone shops).
3
SPREAD THE WORD
About a week before the sale, take advantage of free listing opportunities on Craigslist, Facebook, Twitter and nextdoor.com, along with yard sale–specifc sites such as garagesalestracker.com and yardsalesearch.com. Include photos of some of the nicer items you plan to sell, labeled with catchy phrases such as Like new!, Excellent used condition, Smoke-free, pet-free home! or Never used—tags still on! And don’t underestimate oldfashioned fyers. They work not only on lampposts for passersby, but also in strategic places that suit the items

PLAN AHEAD Choose a non-holiday weekend day near the frst or 15th of the month—when many people get paid—and be sure to start between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. “Dedicated yard salers know the good stuf goes frst, so they ’ll be waiting outside at the crack of dawn,” says Andrea Woroch, a consumer and money-saving expert in Bakersfeld, CA. Next, check with your town to see if you need a permit. They typically cost under $20, but get caught without one and the fne could mean hundreds.

PRICE IT RIGHT
“Charge too much and you’ll scare of shoppers. Charge too little and you’ll be pestered by hagglers who realize you just want to get rid of things,” says Woroch. How to hit the sweet spot: Know your market. For helpful valuation guides, sites like Goodwill, Salvation Army and garagesalestracker .com are a good place to start, though their numbers tend to skew low. As you evaluate your items, take their condition into account; if you can, check out local yard sales beforehand to get a sense of what’s reasonable in your area, too. At your sale, you may want to post a printout showing the current retail price of a product next to your price tag. This

illustrates the value of the item and the deal you’re ofering buyers. Keep your cool. Many yard salers come to negotiate. If you have a fgure in mind for an item, price it a few dollars higher. That way, when a buyer makes a low ofer, you can drop down to your desired price and still come out on top. For the things you’re willing to try selling elsewhere later, decide ahead of time on your bottom dollar. Otherwise, you may grow fustered in the heat of bargaining and sell lower than you’d intended to. Ofer combo deals. Buyers love the idea of getting more for their money, so fnd ways to sell items of lesser value that might not have moved otherwise. If books are $1 each, sell six for 5 bucks. Or bundle small toys and mark them at a lower price than you would have asked for each one separately. Try collecting your smallest goods in a bin labeled Only 50¢ or Free! Or put up a sign that says 1 freebie with purchase—patrons are more likely to buy something just to
score a giveaway. “A great marketing technique is to place the freebie box out by the curb because passersby will see it and be more likely to stop,” says Novak. Do discount. Start slashing prices as soon as the afternoon approaches. To do this, have a sign ready that says 25% of all items! Carry a calculator so you can do the math on the fy.
5
SET UP SHOP
“The way you arrange your sale can determine whether or not people get out of the car and buy,” says professional organizer Rachel Rosenthal. Make every efort to transform your yard into a high-end store, and it can inspire sales and earn you more money. Hook the browsers. First, clean or wipe down items so they look their best. If you still have the box or manual, include it so the product feels like new, which allows you to charge more. Then place the most attractive pieces near the street so people see them right away.

Create “departments.” For easy shopping, group your wares into clearly labeled categories such as kids’ gear, clothes, kitchenware and entertainment, and leave walkways between sections. Think like a window dresser. You can’t buy what you don’t see. So whether you’re spreading out across the grass, the driveway or both, keep items up high. “It also helps to organize things the way people are used to viewing them in their home or a store,” says Rosenthal. Hang clothes by size on a rack rather than having people dig through a box, she suggests. If you don’t want to invest in a clothing rack, tie a clothesline between trees, then use clothespins or regular hangers. (You can clip up soft goods like linens, hats and stufed animals here, too.) Not enough tables? Drape a tablecloth or sheet over a big box or bench. Clever displays can pay of: Try pairing a dress with a handbag and attaching a sign that says Date night!
Or group a tent and a sleeping bag with a Gone camping! sign. Appeal to DIYers. Many people go to yard sales looking for projects, so consider making a section for items that need refurbishing. Price them low
and post a sign that says Room for improvement! You can even print out images from Pinterest and put them next to each item with signs like Sand and paint me! or Wanted: a shade (for a lamp base) to inspire creativity. n July/August 2015 womansday.com

Fake a Flawless “Tan”
Streaks are usually caused by skimping on the self-tanner. Always smooth on two pumps per body part so the tanner can glide efortlessly over your skin. Don’t worry about using too much—your skin can only absorb a fnite amount. If you do wind up with a stripe, use a waterproof body makeup like Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs ($13.99; at Target stores) to blend and camoufage.
Use on arms too!
Stop Smudges
When it’s hot out, mascara can smudge, especially while you’re applying it. Hello, raccoon eyes! To keep mascara on lashes (and of lids), use the Tweezerman No Mess Mascara Guard ($10; tweezerman.com) when applying. Hold it behind your lashes as you swipe.
Prevent Breakouts
Sunscreens made with oxybenzone and avobenzone sink in and can irritate sensitive and acne-prone skin. Choose formulas with physical blocking ingredients such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide that sit on top of your skin like a shield. One to try: Eau Thermale Avène Mineral Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ ($28; drugstore.com).
Keep Hair Healthy
Taking a dip in a pool or ocean can wreak havoc on your hair—salt and chlorine will fade color fast and dry out your strands. Before diving in, mix 1 part conditioner with 3 parts water in a spray bottle and coat your hair. This flls the hair cuticle with hydrating ingredients so it won’t absorb the damaging chlorine and salt. Try Dove Youthful Vitality Conditioner ($5.99; at drugstores). Lighten Up
Skin produces more oil in the warmer months, which can turn a creamy foundation cakey. Switch to a BB or CC cream like Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector ($12.99; at drugstores) for the season. It delivers the hydration that aging skin requires and provides allover coverage for an even complexion without a heavy feel.

LOVE Your Age
Younger, Firmer Skin Keep your body looking its best with these expert-approved tips. What Happens Over Time
“As you age, collagen and elastin, which give your skin volume and structure, break down, causing skin to sag. Add years of sun exposure and the process speeds up,” says Dendy Engelman, MD, a New York City dermatologist. Another factor is, of course, gravity. To help counter these forces and strengthen your skin, follow these tips.
Simple SolutionS
ToP: gETTY IMAgES. SCHMITT: bEN golDSTEIN/STUDIo D.
Massage your skin daily
Every morning, apply lotion in a circular motion to stimulate blood fow. This allows blood to more efciently deliver nutrients to your skin, making it look healthier. Plus, the hydration will help skin feel smoother. Use a skin-frming body lotion with Q10, which guards skin against the free radical damage that speeds up aging. Cafeine is another helpful ingredient—it dehydrates and smooths fat cells temporarily.

This super-fruit is full of powerful antioxidants that help protect your skin from aging free radicals. It also contains compounds that inhibit the enzymes that break down collagen and help extend the life of fbroblasts, the cells that produce elastin and collagen. Snacking on the arils (the seeds flled with juice) will support your skin’s health and may help improve overall frmness.

The BesT Toning Cream
Angie Schmitt, Hot & Flashy blogger and WD’s product tester, tried the latest formulas. Here’s her favorite.
This creamy lotion is not too thick and glides easily over skin. I applied it to the front of my legs after stepping out of the shower every day for a month and paid close attention to the area above my knees, where my skin is really starting to sag. The cream has shea butter and argan oil, which made my skin feel silky and even slightly frmer. I defnitely feel happier wearing skirts.

1 Cook the pasta according to package directions. Reserve 1 cup cooking liquid, drain the pasta and return it to the pot. 2 Grate the zest of the lemon directly into the pot, then squeeze in the juice (you should have about 2 tsp zest and 3 Tbsp juice). Drizzle with 1 Tbsp oil and toss to combine (adding some of the reserved cooking liquid if the pasta seems dry). 3 While the pasta is cooking, heat the remaining Tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until it starts to brown
around the edges, about 1 minute. Add the beef, season with ½ tsp each salt and pepper and cook, breaking it up with a spoon into small pieces, until browned, 4 to 6 minutes. 4 Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, until the beef starts to get a bit crispy. Add the wine and simmer until it evaporates, 2 to 3 minutes. 5 Serve the beef with the pasta, tomatoes and onion. Sprinkle with Parmesan and basil, if desired. When you pour or shake salt over a dish, you have less control over what comes out and are more likely to overdo it, says Keri Gans, RDN, author of The Small Change Diet. But pinching a small amount between your fngers and sprinkling on food instead can help you scale back. (Ninety percent of Americans get too much sodium, which can contribute to high blood pressure, stroke and kidney damage.)

See-through packaging means you’re much more likely to eat what’s inside, says Brian Wansink, PhD, director of the Cornell Food and Brand Lab and author of Slim by Design. His research found that people who wrapped healthy leftovers in plastic wrap were more likely to eat them than those who used foil. On the fip side, women ate 2.2 more pieces of candy a day out of a clear bowl than an opaque one.
3
Move hearthealthy oils into a cabinet
Keeping regular and extra-virgin olive oil out on the counter exposes them to light and heat, says Elizabeth J. Johnson, PhD, a scientist at the Tufts University Antioxidants Research Laboratory. This can destroy its polyphenols, the antioxidant compounds that may help prevent cancer and heart disease. Another food with the same compounds? Dark chocolate. Put the sweet stuf in the fridge rather than a drawer to preserve the ingredients.
4
Replace your scratched nonstick pan to cut calories Food can adhere to the pan if too much of the coating has worn away, which means you’ll need to use more fats for cooking. Cast iron, on the other hand, can be used for almost everything—and requires just a drizzle of oil (or none at all). Bonus: Cast iron actually releases iron, a mineral that helps carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body, into food, according to Dennis Miller, PhD, a professor of food chemistry and nutrition at Cornell University.
7
Keep spices nutrient-rich
office supplies that do more!
Just because it’s in the pantry doesn’t mean it lasts forever. “Spices have compounds that evaporate over time and lose some nutrient value,” says Bharat Aggarwal, PhD, professor of cancer medicine at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and author of Healing Spices. Certain ones last longer than others, but if the color is faded and the smell is weak (or the expiration date has passed), replace. Whole spices—think nutmeg and cinnamon sticks—keep longer, and you can grind as needed.
Consolidate your tea bags into an 8½ x 11-in. clear plastic envelope. Seeing the bags will remind you to drink more of the antioxidant-flled beverage.
5
Stash extra-large dishes to avoid going overboard with portions
6
Designate a paper bin so you can quit mindless snacking
Stow jumbo tumblers, dinner plates and pasta bowls in an inconvenient place (like the top cabinet shelf) and move smaller dishes, like appetizer plates and juice glasses, within easy reach. Why? A study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology found that diners who piled their food onto large plates ate 45% more than those who used smaller ones. And plates aren’t the only problem: “Your drinking glasses should hold about 8 ounces of liquid, but many hold 16 or more,” says Gans. That’s good if you’re only drinking water, but for other beverages, the large size can result in excess empty calories.
Label leftover containers with masking tape before you pop them into the fridge or freezer. (Clearly ID’ing leftovers means you’re more likely to choose them over takeout in a pinch.) Turn a mesh wastebasket into a mini hamper for canvas shopping bags, which should be washed between uses to keep bacteria at bay.
When subjects in a Cornell University study were in a kitchen strewn with mail and other papers, they ate 44% more snack food than they did when the kitchen was organized. “If your environment is out of control, you may feel that you don’t need to be in control of your eating either,” says Dr. Wansink. Cardboard counts too: Research found that women who kept one box (or more) of cereal on the counter weighed 21 pounds more, on average, than those who put it in the cupboard.

Why the stigma?
Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, yet talking about it isn’t always easy. Find out what's behind the hesitation and how you can help get the word out. b y b A r b A r A b r o dy
W
hen Sandy Musacchio first learned that she had heart disease nine years ago, she kept it a secret. “I was uncomfortable sharing with anyone because I had a hard time accepting it myself,” she says. “I thought I was a healthy 40-year-old, and I believed heart disease was something that happened to overweight old men.” Sandy eventually came to terms with her condition, a lipid disorder that makes her prone to clogged arteries. She now works with the national organization WomenHeart and leads a support group near her home in Oregon, WI.

But her initial reaction to keep quiet about it isn’t unusual: More than 75% of women ages 25 to 60 rarely or never discuss heart disease with family and friends, according to a survey of more than 1,000 women commissioned by the Women’s Heart Alliance. And 26% of respondents agreed that “having problems with your heart is embarrassing—people just assume you are not eating right or exercising.” These numbers are alarming because heart disease is the top health threat for women (more so than all cancers combined) and breaking the silence is crucial to changing the statistic.
Having problems with your heart is embarrassing—people just assume you are not eating right or exercising. her 39-year-old sister, Susie, had a heart attack and died. Well-wishers expressed concern—yet they tried to figure out what Sandy and Susie had done “wrong.” They wanted to know if the sisters ate a lot of meat, exercised too little or were stressed. please turn to page tK

The Health Issue You Must Discuss
There used to be a time when the word cancer was spoken in hushed tones. Fortunately that’s changed, and many women are now comfortable talking about breast cancer—yet heart disease still seems taboo, says Sharonne Hayes, MD, founder of the Mayo Clinic Women’s Heart Clinic in Rochester, MN. Eighty percent of heart disease is preventable, says Stacey Rosen, MD, cardiologist and vice president for women’s health at North ShoreLIJ Health System in New York. But that means 20% of it is not, and it’s women who tend to blame themselves, regardless of whether they actually had controllable risk factors. Sandy sees this firsthand. “So many women are reluctant to talk about their diagnosis because they’re overweight or work too much,” she says. And even though Sandy did everything “right”—she exercised and was at a normal weight—she still criticized herself. Meanwhile, other people’s questions only made her feel worse. Shortly before Sandy’s diagnosis,

The notion that heart disease is your own fault may actually prevent women from even broaching the topic with their doctors. Many report that they delay going to a healthcare provider because they mistakenly think they should lose some weight first, says C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, director of the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at CedarsSinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles. And this reluctance to talk about heart disease may in part explain why there are still major knowledge gaps. For one, female heart attack symptoms are sometimes different from what men experience. Nausea, sweating and shortness of breath are common for women. If you’ve only heard about the classic “Hollywood heart attack” (clutching your chest and falling to the ground), you might not realize you’re in danger. Even if you do suspect something is amiss, you may be slow to action. New research from the Yale School of Public Health found that women ages 30 to 55 are especially prone to ignoring the warning signs, which might be a reason they’re much more likely to die of heart disease compared with men of the same age. (Under 50, a woman’s heart attack is twice as likely to be fatal as a man’s.) When a woman does go to the ER, she’s apt to hem and haw, says Dr. Rosen. “Some will be in the waiting room and say, ‘Take him first. Don’t worry about me.’” Yet one woman dies of heart disease approximately every minute. “You need to go in and yell, ‘I’m having a heart attack!’” says Dr. Rosen. “You’re better off being wrong and laughing about it later.”

Shifting course The good news is that there’s a lot you can do to help turn the tide. To start, most women should get their risk factors evaluated on a regular basis, starting at age 20. Beyond that, heed this advice:
if you know someone with heart disease… When a friend or loved one shares her heart-health struggle, be supportive. Make it a point to avoid asking the “what did you do” kinds of questions.
if you’re recently diagnosed… Try to stop the self-blame, regardless of your risk factors. Being hard on yourself can make you anxious and interfere with treatment, making you less likely to go to cardiac rehab, take your medication or stay in touch with your doctors. Connecting with other survivors can help change
health stats.
your mindset. (Ask your hospital if there’s a support group available.)
if you’re a survivor… It’s time to be loud and proud about sharing your story. If you’re ready to take that step but worried about others pointing fingers, prepare yourself with a smart response. “My go-to answer is to say that all women are at risk for heart disease and there’s no simple, quick fix,” says Sandy. And remember: Speaking up encourages others who might otherwise ignore heart health to pay attention. “I recently spoke at a luncheon, and one woman told me she called her doctor’s office during dessert and made an appointment to discuss her heart concerns,” says Sandy. “That’s exactly why I share my story with strangers—the more we all talk, the more lives we’ll save.”

WHOOPING COUGH (BUT REALLY SHOULD!)
You cherish your grandchildren and always want to keep them safe. However, you could unknowingly put them at risk to contract whooping cough. Here’s what you need to know:
IT IS EASILY TRANSMITTED FROM ADULT TO INFANT Whooping cough is a highly communicable disease transmitted through coughing and sneezing. Once it infects the lungs, it can result in uncontrollable, violent coughing, which often makes it hard to breathe.
1
MANY GRANDPARENTS ARE NOT AWARE OF THE RISK Parents and grandparents don’t always realize they can pass whooping cough on to the infants in their lives. In fact, only 8% of those ages 65 and older reported getting a whooping cough shot (included in the Tdap immunization) in the last 7 years.*
2
IT CAN BE SERIOUS About half of the children younger than 12 months of age who get whooping cough are hospitalized.*
3
YOU CAN PROTECT YOUR FAMILY In order to help protect new babies from contracting whooping cough, grandparents should get vaccinated before meeting their new grandchild.
4
GETTING VACCINATED IS EASY AND AFFORDABLE Walgreens has 27,000 specially trained healthcare professionals who can administer immunizations. Most insurance is accepted, including Medicare.
5
WALGREENS IS DOING MORE TO HELP, WORLDWIDE Walgreens has partnered with the United Nations Foundation to create the Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® campaign. When you receive an immunization at any Walgreens, you can help provide a lifesaving vaccine to children around the globe.**

Summer Wo r ko ut
Fit for Free
This season’s get-in-shape plan requires just 15 minutes of your time. How to: Go to a park and run through this sequence three or four times a week, moving between exercises as quickly as possible. The routine is designed to make you break a sweat, and here’s why: A recent study in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine found that exercise that makes you huf and puf may lower your risk of an early death by 13% compared with light activity.
3. Find some steps
2 min: Stair climb Choose a long fight of stairs and ascend two at a time to the top, using the handrail for stability if necessary. Pause to catch your breath, then descend stairs as usual and continue the drill.
Start 1. Begin on a sidewalk
10 min: Speed workout Walk, alternating between 30 seconds at a comfortable pace (you should be able to carry on a conversation easily) and 30 seconds at a brisk pace (speaking in full sentences should be difcult).
2. Move to a bench
1 min: Sit-to-stand squats Stand with your back 8 to 12 inches away from the bench’s seat. With hands on hips or straight out in front of you, bend knees and squat (make sure heels stay on the ground). As soon as your rear touches the bench, push through heels to stand back up. Repeat.
4. Spot the swing set 1 min: Angled plank Place forearms on a swing, then walk feet back until body is in a straight line. Squeeze ab and glute muscles and hold position for 30 seconds. Rest, then repeat.
GETTY ImAGES. ILLUSTRATIONS: SHUTTERSTOCK (2).
Why this move really Works The swing’s instability forces your core to engage more than it would on a stationary surface.
Cool down 5. End on the curb
1 min: Double-duty stretch Stand 12 inches in front of the curb. Place ball of right foot against it, heel on ground. Lean forward so you feel a stretch through the back of leg; simultaneously extend left arm across chest, pulling left elbow toward body with right hand. Hold 30 seconds, then switch sides.

ne morning in 2012, Lucy Reyna woke up suddenly feeling uncomfortably hot. Disoriented, she realized that her clock and air conditioner had stopped working. It took her a few minutes to figure out why: The power company had shut off her electricity because she wasn’t able to pay the bill on time. Feeding her kids each day was already a constant worry (sometimes she’d skip a meal to make sure there was enough for them), and now her head swam with all of the late bills, car payments and other money problems she still needed to deal with. “The hardest part was not knowing when it would get better,” she says. “I had such a bleak outlook and was always stressed trying to make ends meet. It felt hopeless.” Lucy, an Iraq war veteran who was a single mother to

The k i n d n e s s Project Mason, Sienna and Logan, is not alone. According to a 2014 Feeding America survey, about 25% of military households require food assistance. Military salaries are often too low to cover the cost of daily life. And for returning veterans, health issues can prevent them getting and retaining higherpaying civilian careers. Lucy never dreamed of becoming a member of the United States military—let alone a veteran in need of assistance. As a young woman, she wanted to be a

criminal profiler for the FBI, so in May 2001 at age 23, she joined the Army Reserve as a military police officer to pick up work experience. But during her last few weeks of training, the United States was attacked on 9/11. “When our drill seargents first told us about what had happened, we thought they were messing with us—that what they were saying was a test to get us motivated,” says Lucy, now 37. “Once I realized it was true, I decided to go on active duty.” A year and a half later, she was on a plane to the Middle East to fight in Iraq. Her military unit was part of the first rotation deployed to the country, so there was no infrastructure in place at the time. She spent her 11-month tour sleeping on the ground and living without power or electricity. “We were roughing it,” she says.

“Supply routes were not established yet, so we had very little food. We were never really safe.” She finished that tour and was redeployed in 2006. When she returned home from her second tour in 2007, she was diagnosed with panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, due to what she experienced in combat. Then she was told she had both cervical and breast cancer. “I made a full recovery from both cancers, but still couldn’t take on a full-time job because of my ongoing health issues,” she says. “The work I did find was never enough.” Lucy relied on food stamps, WIC (Women, Infants and Children, a supplemental nutrition program), donation drives and a national organization called Final Salute that helped her find housing. She also frequented a food bank that supplied her family with groceries and baked goods that store owners were about to throw out. “I was constantly looking up different resources, trying to dig myself out of this hole,” she says. “It was hard for all of us, but I always told my kids, ‘We have each other. We’re OK.’” Thankfully, things have gotten better. In 2014, Lucy, who now has two master’s degrees, got a fulltime military job in Indianapolis as a project manager and analyst for the Defense Finance and Accounting Services. She is also engaged with a baby on the way, living in Logansport, IN, with her youngest son, Logan. Despite her hardships, her oldest son, Mason, just joined the Army Reserve to pay his way through college. “I talked to him about my experience,
and he has a good plan,” she says proudly. “He wants to go to law school so he can be a politician. He wants to be president.” Though she still needs some assistance for food to help stretch her military salary, her life finally feels stable—a testament to her persistence and work ethic. “My kids have seen me fall, but they know that I always get back up,” says Lucy. “I’m a combat veteran, I put myself through school and I overcame illnesses. I’m still here, and will never stop trying to make things better for myself and my family.” n

DIMINISHING DEBT
My husband and I are trying to pay off our debt and have put what we owe in order from smallest to biggest to tackle the lesser amount first, as you advise. But because saving for retirement is so important, should we make an exception and start with our big 401(k) loan?
SaRa LampeRt, Seattle

Sara, congratulations on taking charge of your money! I know it looks like an uphill battle, but you’ll be at the top in no time! Your 401(k) loan goes in your debt snowball just like any other debt. The reason it doesn’t top the list is because, though saving for retirement is important, it’s more important to knock all your debt out. Starting with your smallest debts gives you quick wins that will motivate you to keep up the good work. Keep making your monthly 401(k) loan payments, putting the rest of your money toward your smaller debts. Once those are paid of, begin paying yourself any extra money toward the 401(k) loan (since you must pay it of in a lump sum). Once you have saved the full amount, send a big check and move on to the next debt. For others reading this, I want to say that 401(k) loans are a bad deal all around. Not only are there fees and risk, but longterm investing only works for you if you leave the money alone! The only time it makes sense to dip into retirement funds is to avoid a bankruptcy or foreclosure. Dave

LEASE LESSONS
Is there any way to end a car lease early? Is it worth it? We’re 20 payments into a 36-month lease.
If so, you are not alone. 1 in 6 Americans have it.
samantha anD sean schwaRze, Tucson, AZ
Yes, there is a way to end a lease early, and we recommend it when it makes fnancial sense. Leasing is the most expensive way to drive a car, so getting out can save you a lot in interest, depending on where you are in the lease. Here’s how it works: You contact the lease company and ask for an early buyout price. That’s the amount you have to pay to end the lease and buy the car. Then look up the Kelley Blue Book value of the car. If its sale price is close to the buyout price, go for it. rachel
But Rachel’s right: Buying out a lease isn’t always the best option, especially if you’re far into it. Since that’s true in your case, you probably won’t save enough money by ending the lease to make it worth the efort. Whether you keep the car or return it when the lease is up, watch out for the little “gotchas” the company can slap you with, like mileage overage fees and cosmetic stuf. And whether you buy that car or another at the end of the lease, be prepared to pay cash! Leasing costs you a lot more in the long run. Dave

SAVING SMART
My son is a college senior who saves $400 a month from his job. Should he invest it or save it? He has a $2,000 emergency fund, and will start paying off $35,000 in loans when he graduates.
mike albeRDa, Hopkins, MI
What an impressive guy—$2,000 saved is amazing! I’ve known many people in their 30s who don’t have that much, so way to go! Since he’ll have debt coming his way in the next year or so, he needs to put that $400 in a savings account. Nothing fancy—a money market account will do the trick. Then when he graduates, he should use all that savings (except the emergency fund) to write a big check toward his

student loan, and keep chipping away at it each month. That’s so important. It’s too easy to pay the minimums and think you’ll knock out that student debt later. But I’d suggest that he do everything possible to get this debt out of the way. If he lives under his means and doesn’t get carried away (like trying to buy a house), he should be able to do it in a few years. Then he can look into things like becoming a homeowner or investing.

P@$$word$ Here’s how to create secure log-ons that you’ll never forget. B y T r Ac y S A e l i n g e r
Start here
next…
Finally…
Choose a phrase or sentence with at least 10 words (or a mix of words and numbers) that’s memorable for you. It might be a song lyric or a book passage. As an example, let’s say you come up with the sentence below:
Uppercase the frst letter of each word. Now you have mDSaKCi2006. Swap in symbols or numbers for a few of the letters. So the letter S can become $, and the a can become @. Then it reads mD$@KCi2006.
Lowercase one or two of the uppercase letters where you think it makes the most sense (so D could become d), making the password md$@KCi2006. This way, your password is not only secure, but should also ft any website’s password requirements. Now you have a password that’s tough to crack— hooray! But for safety reasons you should not use the exact same password for every website. Next, it’s a good idea to…

“my DaughTer STarTeD aT KeNNeDy COllege iN 2006.”
3
CuStomize your paSSworDS Take letters from the website URL you’re using and add them to the basic password you just created. You could use the frst and last two letters of the name of the site. For amazon .com, for instance, take the frst two and last two letters of the URL: am and ON. Put them on either side of your password. You’ll get: ammd$@KCi 2006ON. All you really have to remember is your base password, because it’s the foundation for all of them.
Do the Same For all your webSiteS For comcast.com, take the CO and ST and add them to your root password, giving you:
COmd$@ KCi2006ST. For
facebook.com your password becomes Famd$@ KCi2006OK, and so on. That’s it! Now you have a diferent password for every site that’s easy to recall. So take 20 minutes to redo your current passwords and you can log on with confdence. Still worried you won’t remember? Read on for what to do.

If you have your passwords listed in a Microsoft Word or Excel fle on your computer, move it onto an encrypted cloud-based storage program like icloud.com

Fulflling Her destiny Actress Beth Fowler from Orange Is the New Black always wanted to be a nun. But she never imagined that she’d play one on TV.

I
’m seated in a cafeteria flled with women wearing identical clothing and eating unappetizing food over a short, prescribed time. in my mind, this is exactly what being in a convent would be like—when i was young, i longed to be a nun. But i’m actually on the set of the netfix series Orange Is the New Black, where i play sister Jane ingalls, a nun in prison. How I got here is quite a story. I was a good Catholic girl in New Jersey in the 1950s. When I was around 10, my first friend, Regis (we met when we were 4!), and I invited the entire neighborhood to a religious pageant in the basement of her parents’ home. I was Our Lady of Fatima, the Blessed Virgin Mary, bedecked in a blue bedsheet, singing a hymn, with the other kids kneeling at my feet. We’d dressed like tiny brides for our First Holy Communion a few years before, and later would take the saints’ names for confirmation. Mine was Joan, as in Joan of Arc. My 16 years of Catholic school were filled with daily prayer, devotionals, Bible stories, holiday services that stirred my soul— and the Mass, with the beauty of its Latin language and music. I couldn’t get enough of it. I felt safe

and loved. The presence of God was with me. The sisters who taught us were good-natured but very strict, since their grade-school classrooms were filled with 50 to 60 students. I was eager to please them. I got excellent grades, volunteered for projects and walked them to the convent after classes. They were devout women, smart and funny. As the years went on, several of them mentored me. They saw I had talents, so they encouraged and tutored me. The only acting teacher I’ve ever had was Sister Doris Ann, who sat beneath one basketball hoop while I stood across the court to be coached on monologues and speeches that would win me state trophies. The hours they devoted to my achievements were a wonder, and I admired their generosity of spirit as well as their skills. I wanted to be one of them.

“When someone in my family needs fast, safe and effective relief from muscle aches and pains, I count on Tiger Balm. With its time-proven blend of herbal ingredients, it’s a pill-free solution to pain I can always depend on.”
I chose to attend a small Catholic college because it was also the Mother House of the religious order I intended to enter. My interview with the Mother General won her approval, and, with the support of the sisters, I prepared to enter the convent in my junior year. But as the date approached, I withdrew my request. Upon much reflection, I just couldn’t see myself living that life. After graduation, I taught music at a public grade school and performed at community theaters. In the audience one night was a woman who offered me a job at her professional summer stock house. I took it and the actors encouraged me to leave teaching. I said to myself that if I got the lead in My Fair Lady the next summer, it would be a sign from God that I should have a life in the theater. He gave me the sign! I went on to enjoy a successful career throughout the country as well as on Broadway, where I received two Tony nominations. I married a fellow actor in 1976. And then a strange thing happened: I started being cast as a nun again and again. The casting directors must just sense it in me. Maybe I have the face of a nun! In the late ’70s, I was a singing nun in a Kleenex commercial. And then, in the ’80s, I was cast in Nunsense the Musical. And then again, in the
early ’90s, in the Sister Act movies. And now I am playing Sister Jane Ingalls, an activist incarcerated for handcuffing herself to a flagpole at a nuclear facility who confronts all sorts of moral, ethical, political and religious issues. My words were written by others, but when I say the lines, they are processed through my life experiences. My closest friends are devout Catholics. Regis has been a nun for more than 50 years and remains very much a part of my life. Perhaps that subtly colors Sister Jane’s point of view. On set I’m channeling some of the nuns from my upbringing, and when I think of Regis my speech becomes gentler. My prayers have continued throughout my life, but my churchgoing habits have not. Unlike Sister Jane, I was disappointed and dismayed by Vatican II and the modernization of the Mass into the English and the strumming of folk guitars. I prefer the pageantry and elegance of the Latin Mass. I did not adapt. Sister Jane and I may have chosen different paths, but the start of our journeys had a common inspiration. And our goal is the same: to live a good life to the fullest and to enhance God’s grace as we travel.

SPECIAL REPORT
The
Youth
Hormone... Everyone’s talking about it. But can it really reduce body fat, increase lean muscle mass, boost mood, heighten sex drive, give you plenty of energy, get rid of wrinkles and tighten saggy skin?
Barbara just had another birthday.
She watches her diet, exercises
when she can, and is in pretty good shape. In fact, she could be the poster child for the “Fountain of Youth” headline we see on the covers of fashion mags around the globe. What’s her secret? It’s not just the occasional Botox, peel or filler, or even her assortment of skin creams that could rival the anti-aging section of your local Sephora. Barbara, who was always “cutting edge,” has become a believer in what is fast becoming the most popular (if not the most expensive) anti-aging treatment in the USA… Growth Hormone Therapy. – By Tiffany Strobel *
t seems everyone is talking about human growth hormone lately. No less than the famed Dr. Oz began a recent show by asking his audience, “How many of you want to start feeling 20 years younger right now?” Allure magazine, in its “Anti-aging Special” issue, highlighted growth hormone as its year-end call-out. Shape magazine began a recent growth hormone article with the provocative lead in: “When you see a 50-year-old actress who can pass for 35, you can bet that good genes aren’t the only things responsible for her
youthful glow.” Fox News, The Today Show, CNN, ABC, and CBS have all contributed to the current frenzy.
VANITY FAIR says: “A 20-year-old produces more than twice as much hGH as [she] will when [she’s] 40... hGH, by turning back the body clock, turns back the aging process.”
DR. OZ says: “I have been searching for this from the day we started the show. I’ve been looking for ways of increasing hGH naturally because I don’t like getting the injections.” Why all the fuss? Simple. hGH disciples… and to many like Barbara, hGH therapy is truly a religious experience... believe hGH can help reduce body fat, increase lean muscle mass, boost mood, heighten sex drive, give them plenty of energy, get rid of wrinkles and tighten saggy skin… making them look and feel decades – not years, but decades – younger. Celebrities, CEOs, Wall Street execs, models, housewives, athletes and even some high-ranking politicians all seem to be drinking from the same pitcher of Kool-Aid. There’s no doubt about it; in our current fast-paced, “youth-oriented” culture, hGH therapy is hot.
The controversy The controversy isn’t over whether or not hGH plays an essential role in our health and aging (virtually everyone already agrees on that). Instead, the controversy lies in the best way to maintain our body’s supply of human growth hormone. Until recently, most felt the best way was through expensive prescription injections (although costs can run as high as $1500 per month). However, some experts argue against the use of these synthetic injections, because they fear introducing synthetic hGH into the body may upset natural hGH production.
Society’s most recent Scientific Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, The Academy of Women’s Health’s 21st Annual Congress in Washington, D.C., and then again at The 9th World Congress of Cosmetic Dermatology held in Athens, Greece, it created a serious stir.
The revolution The formula that was the subject of these research findings is now being sold by SanMedica International™ under the trade name SeroVital.® And when Dr. Oz disclosed that “a recent
added to the SeroVital mystique by issuing not one but ten U.S. Patents to protect the SeroVital formula from imitators.‡ Thanks to the release of SeroVital, the hGH revolution has finally arrived. Now that there’s an easy-to-swallow capsule that can raise growth hormone naturally, an awful lot of people have stopped asking if they should be increasing their hGH levels and started asking which hGH-boosting option is right for them.
Is it worth it? To me, anything that may reduce wrinkles, tighten saggy skin, decrease body fat, increase lean
SHAPE says: “When you see a 50-year-old actress who can pass for 35, you can bet that good genes aren’t the only things responsible for her youthful glow.” study [on SeroVital-hgh] showed patients given a special blend of amino acids saw their hGH levels spike more than 6 times...” and added, “I have been searching for this from the day we started the show. I’ve been looking for ways of increasing hGH naturally because I don’t like getting the injections,” you can imagine the frenzy he created. Before long, SanMedica was having trouble keeping SeroVital in stock. It went from underground sensation to full-blown phenomenon. Even the United States Patent Office has
muscle mass, strengthen bones, and boost mood, while giving you plenty of energy and improving sex drive, is a no-brainer. However, make no mistake about it, the “established” medical community (and of course, they know everything) would say its benefits are largely anecdotal, and based on research that’s preliminary. But there’s no denying that something that has a chance of making you look and feel decades, not years, but DECADES, younger, is... at the very least... irresistible. Frankly, I’m ready to try it... How about you?
So what’s the catch? Dr. Amy Heaton, PhD, Director of Scientific Affairs for SanMedica International, says: “There are three. First, as with hGH injections, SeroVital is not a ‘magic bullet,’ but one part of a healthy lifestyle choice including a sensible diet and exercise regimen. “Second, for proper absorption, you have to take SeroVital-hgh on an empty stomach. That means you either have to take it first thing in the morning and then not eat anything for two hours, or take it at night, at least two hours after your last meal... before you go to bed. “And last but not least, while SeroVital is far less expensive than prescription hGH injections, it’s still not cheap... SeroVital will cost you about $100 a month.”
Where can I get it? Having a hard time finding SeroVital-hgh? It’s currently available at all Ulta stores, Kohl's, and select GNC locations. Over the next few months it will be available on a limited basis at prestige retailers across the U.S.
