Classic and casual, the approximately 12-footby-16-foot space gained pizzazz after we painted 7-inch-tall blue stripes on the off-white walls (Bracing Blue and Creamy, both by HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams). Furniture with staying power, like the upholstered bed and the streamlined dresser and nightstand, will look stylish for years. Abstract art prints, a mirror, and a vintage basket hung above the dresser have a collected-over-time feel. A plaid wool throw pulls together all the room’s colors.
